Exploring Costa Rica Part 2: Monteverde / Santa Elena
Hey everyone! We recently got back from a two week trip to Costa Rica, where we spent time in 3 different cities - La Fortuna/Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio. In this video, we visit Don Juan Tours (chocolate, coffee, and sugarcane), explore Santa Elena Cloud Forest, do a night tour in Monteverde Cloud Forest, do some ziplining, visit the Frog Pond of Monteverde and the Serpentario, and lastly we hiked Cerro Amigos before heading off to Manuel Antonio.

Visitors can admire more than 25 species of native frogs, toads and other amphibians living in large, naturally-simulated terrariums. Some of the frogs and toads on hand include the colorful poison arrow frog, crowned frog, marine toad, cane toad, leopard frog, hourglass frog, and the famous red-eyed tree frog.

Cloud Forest - Monteverde, Costa Rica
I took a quick video to show the thickness of the clouds. The city is called Monteverde in Costa Rica. It is very lush rain forest, and the steep hills provide the perfect environment to grow coffee. The hiking trails were very beautiful, however it rained for all but 4 hours of our 2 and a half days there. Other than the rain, the roads to get to Monteverde are horrid; they are barely covered with gravel, very narrow, extremely bumpy, full of pot holes and on the edge of a cliff. The drive up there alone was a car sickening adventure. Unless you are totally granola, I don't know if the near death drive is worth it? However there are some really cool things inMonteverde like the live frog museum (the frog pond), great local food, live butterfly garden, impeccable hiking, good coffee and the infamous zip line.

This exciting tour begins at our facilities located only three kilometers away from the town of Santa Elena in Monteverde. There our receptionists will warmly welcome you, and help you with the formalities require to begin this adventure. (Helmets, security equipment, etc.).
Shortly after, we ill head to the practice area, where our bilingual guides will give the respective instructions concerning safety. They will explain in detail about the quad tour, maneuvering techniques, speed limits, signaling to guides, duration of tour and safety procedures. Once all questions have been answered, we will proceed with hands on practice in a circuit properly adapted for this activity. During practice, you will become familiar with the quad, the engine power, position of the controls and irregularities of the terrain. In addition, if anybody is not able to properly control the quad during practice, this person will be offer the choice of being driven by a guide, or having their money refunded.
As of this moment, we are ready to begin our adventure, which will last approximately two hours for a stretch of twenty kilometers, between private trails and country roads. This route can vary depending to the weather conditions and the ability of the participants.
During the tour, it will be possible to observe the abundant flora and fauna of this region, which is very particular since it is located on the continental divide. From there, you will be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the Gulf of Nicoya, and on a clear day, you will be able to see Arenal Lake and Volcano. Half way through the trek, we will take a short break for picture taking, and then we shall continue through the trails and local farms until returning again to our facilities, where the tour ends.
Recommendations: Long trousers, comfortable shoes, camera and extra clothes.
