Walking the Mount Healy Overlook Trail
The Mount Healy Overlook Trail is a strenuous hike of 4.5 miles (7.3 km) round trip, three to four hours roundtrip, from the Denali Visitor Center via the Tiaga Trail and a trail junction, with 1,700 feet of elevation change, up to 25 percent grade, on a 24-inch wide surface of native soils with rocks and roots. Highlights include dramatic views. Benches are provided after the first mile, and 500 feet of elevation gain. Switchbacks climb another mile and 1,200 feet to the overlook. (NPS/Nathan Kotegian)

Alaska 2018 - 16 [Hiking in Denali National Park]
Come along on a couple of hikes we did in Denali National Park. We hope to get back to the park for more hiking before we leave Alaska. (See more photos and info in our blog post:
Mt. Healy Overlook Trail
This trail is 2.7 miles one way with 1700 ft. in elevation gain. But it’s totally worth it. The views up there are beautiful!
If you’re worried about running into bears while hiking in Denali National Park, this is a well-traveled trail and you will see people on it regularly. After the first part of the trail, you start to lose tree coverage. So be prepared with sunscreen.
Triple Lakes Trail
At 9.5 miles, the Triple Lakes Trail is the longest trail in Denali National Park. It was a crappy day and we had no intention of doing the whole thing, especially after Mt. Healy the day before.
We started at the southern end off of Alaska Highway 3 so we would get to see the lakes pretty quickly. There were few people on the trail so definitely be bear aware here. Bring your bear bells and bear spray.
We didn’t quite make it to the second lake. The part of the trail we hiked was mostly shaded so it would be perfect for hiking in Denali National Park on a hot day.

Alaska's Parks Highway: Cantwell, Denali NP, Healy
Enjoy the drive northbound on the Parks Highway, from Cantwell at the intersection with the Denali Highway, to the park entrance, the canyon, and to my motel near Healy, Alaska.
MyDrivelapse.com and Takemytrip.com provide driving videos and stories to help you plan your trip. Check out hundreds of videos on my YouTube channel. Subscribe if you like it! Dozens of new videos are on the way in the coming weeks.
I made this trip in May/June, 2016. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

“Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is in the Alaska panhandle west of Juneau. President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the area around Glacier Bay a national monumentunder the Antiquities Act on February 25, 1925.[3] Subsequent to an expansion of the monument by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) enlarged the national monument by 523,000 acres (2116.5 km2) on December 2, 1980 and in the process created Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve,[4] with 57,000 additional acres (230.7 km2) of public land designated as national preserve to the immediate northwest of the park in order to protect a portion of the Alsek River and related fish and wildlife habitats while allowing sport hunting.
“Glacier Bay became part of a binational UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979, was inscribed as a Biosphere Reserve in 1986 and in 1994 undertook an obligation to work with Hoonah and Yakutat Tlingit Native American organizations in the management of the protected area.[5] In total the park and preserve cover 5,130 square miles (13,287 km2). Most of Glacier Bay is designated wilderness area which covers 4,164 square miles (10,784 km2).”
