SanJuSanGendo Temple (三十三間堂), Kyoto, Japan
SanJuSanGendo (literally means a hall with 33 bays) Temple is an old temple in Eastern Kyoto city, many of the temple's objects are designated as National Treasures by the Japanese Government. This temple is close to the Kyoto Tower and the JR Kyoto Station.
The official name of SanJuSanGendo (三十三間堂) is Rengeo-in temple. It was established by the powerful warrior-politician Taira-no-Kiyomori in 1164. The original temple building was lost in a fire, but the building (Main Hall or the Hondo) was reconstructed in 1266. That structure has remained unchanged for 700 years since then with four great renovations during that period. The long temple hall, Hondo, which is about 120 meters long, is made in the Wayo (Japanese) style architecture. As there are 33 spaces between the columns (bays), it came to be known as the hall with 33 bays.
The Main Hall is really an architectural marvel as it was built to withstand earthquakes, which Japan is frequently prone for.
The main worshiped deities are located inside the main hall where cameras are not allowed. The principal images of SanJuSanGendo are the 1001 statues of the Buddhist diety, Juichimen-senju sengen kanzeon, or the Thousand Armed Kannon. There are one thousand standing statues of Kannon (Important Cultural Properties of Japan) and one gigantic seated statue (National Treasure), placed at the center of the standing statues. The statues are made of Japanese cypress. Among the standing statues, 124 were made in the 12th century when this temple was founded, and the remaining 876 were made in the 13th century when the temple was renovated.
The statues and the statues other deities are really a great sight and spellbinding to see. I hope you get a chance to go to the temple and see these statues. And yes, the Kyoto National Museum is right across this temple, so you can visit the Museum too.
Enjoy!!!

Kyoto Station ???? Japan As It Truly Is
Kyoto Station is not just a place to catch a train, but a renovated place with a new touch of class.
As the likely starting point for any sightseeing in Kyoto, it is well worth checking out. The tourist info office on the 2nd floor has lots of good resources and free maps, and the view from the top commands a great view. Close by is the iconic Kyoto Tower Hotel,
built in 1964, along with the discount Yodobashi Camera store. There are 2 light shows at night you can see for free, one in front of the station's north side, and another inside.
In addition, there is a tourist info office, hotel, cinema, shopping mall and department store. The building is 15 stories (70m) high, 470m long, and was completed in 1997. It's Kyoto's fourth version of the station, replacing a more utilitarian concrete one from 1950.

Boiled tofu is one of the most popular food of Kyoto.
Kombu(kelp) and tofu are boiled in a pan.
Warm tofu is eaten with sauce.
This restaurant is located in a elegant town of Gion Kyoto.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Kyoto Station〜
The Kyoto Station (京都駅, Kyōto-eki) building was constructed on the 1200th anniversary of the capital's foundation in Kyoto. It was opened to the public in 1997 and stands in perfect contrast to many foreign tourists' image of Kyoto as the capital of traditional Japan.
The building's futuristic design and atmosphere was conceived by the Japanese architect Hara Hiroshi. Hara's design attempts to convey historical Kyoto through a modern aesthetic. The station's large main hall with its exposed steel beamed roof, called the Matrix, is meant to reflect both the structure of the station and the grid like layout of Kyoto's street network. Hara also designed the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka.

????Kyoto/Osaka/Nara Vlog 1 : Nara Park, Owl Cafe, and more!
So last June 27-29, 2019, Dyan, Marianne and I went to Kyoto Osaka and Nara!
Our bus was from Izumo Eki up to Kyoto Eki, and we took the train from Kyoto to Osaka since our hostel was in Osaka.
We rode the train and bus multiple times to go back and forth Nara, Osaka, and Kyoto!
On our first day, we went to Nara Park and took pictures with the deer, visited the popular Nara Juvenile prison that's currently abandoned lol (it was used during the early 1900's), we went to an OWL Cafe, then had dinner back at Osaka! Hope you enjoy the vlogs!
