In ancient Greece, technology was extremely developed reaching high levels and meeting the needs of a variance between everyday life, amusement, armament, astronomy calculations etc.
Kostas Kotsanas is attempting a journey through time, managing to show us that ancient life and needs where very similar to nowadays. Easily then we come to question ourselves ' what if ancient greek civilazation hadnt sharply declined', could ancient greek technology pass our world through the industrial revolution two thousand years earlier....? Kostas Kotsanas is a mechanical engineer. He is the founder of five(5) museums in Greece( two in Athens , Ancient Olympia, Katakolo, Crete), all related to ancient greek technology. He has with devotion studied(still and always is) ancient greek culture and especially ancient greek technology. He is also a writer. For his work he has been award winning! Pyrgos is located 19 km from Ancient Olympia and 315 km from Athens on the western coast of the North Peloponnese. It was named after the Tower of Tsernota which was a village from the 17th century. The city was developed originally when raisin commerce was flourishing. Today, it is a picturesque city built on seven hills. The Church of St. Nicholas, Eparheio Square, the Municipal Market (designed by German architect Ernst Ziller), and the Apollo Theater are all places worth visiting in Pyrgos.
Katakolo is a seaside town in the North Peloponnese. It is 13 km away from Pyrgos, but they are almost considered the same city. Pyrgos is the business and commercial center, and Katakolo is the harbor and nightlife of the two.
During the Byzantine period and the Middle Ages, Katakolo had a strong strategic role and magical Pontikokastro, built by the Vilardouins at the remains of the acropolis is the proof of it. The port is a popular stop for cruise ships, offering an opportunity for passengers to visit the site of Ancient Olympia. One of the most important sites is the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology. Five minutes away, Agios Andreas beach is a beautiful sandy beach with a beach bar, nearby taverns and an incredible sunset.

Katakolo, Pyrgos, Greece, Europe
Katakolo is a seaside town in the municipality of Pyrgos in western Elis, Greece. It is situated on a headland overlooking the Ionian Sea and separating the Gulf of Kyparissia from the rest of the Ionian. It is 11 km west of downtown Pyrgos. The small village of Agios Andreas, which in ancient times was the natural harbour for Ancient Olympia, lies northwest of Katakolo. A railway connects Katakolo with Pyrgos and Olympia, but along with the rest of the rail network in the Peloponnese, services have been suspended since 2011 for economic reasons. In the Middle Ages, Katakolo was the site of the fortress of Pontikon or Pontikokastro (Ποντκόν, Ποντικόκαστρο), which the Frankish rulers of the Principality of Achaea called Beauvoir or Belveder. The fortress was built by the Byzantines and taken over by the Franks ca. 1205. The port of Katakolo is a popular stop for cruise ships, offering an opportunity for passengers to visit the site of Olympia. Low hills with forests surround Katakolo. Visitors here have the opportunity to visit the ancient port of Olympia, the sunken ancient city of Pheia. Ancient Pheia was on the other side of the mountain of Ichthys, now Agios Andreas, within walking distance of Katakolo port. The lighthouse of Katakolo was built in 1865. One of the most important sites of Katakolo is the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology. The remains of the medieval Pontikokastro/Beauvoir castle still stand on a hilltop northeast of the modern port, but the castle is mostly ruined and its original appearance can only be surmised.

Especially at archaeological sites, where there are many ruins, many tourists have difficulty imagining exactly how the site was in its original form. So to assist in the recognition of the site, one can present three-dimensional recreations of models, of temples, of various monuments as they were in antiquity, in addition to a recreation of life, the way of life of the ancients. The device used by the user, and it is the one just behind me, is based on a portable computer, some special glasses and a camera. The image the computer receives from the camera is analysed by a special programme so it automatically recognises the object seen by the user, understands the perspective and angle from where it is being seen and automatically adapts some graphics, some special models that represent the ancient monuments so that these appear as if they exist in reality before the user's eyes.

This was a pilot programme that was tested in Olympia with visitors to the site and various schools and is something we're developing so that it can be released as a product. And in the future it can be used by a visitor in the same way he would use an audio guide in a museum.

There is the possibility, and it is something we're working on at the moment, for the user with his own device to automatically receive the content, the various graphics and audio content, and to follow the guided tour through his own device when he visits the archaeological site or museum. We're talking about a PDA or a mobile phone which gives a different type of presentation but the same type of functionality to the user.

The Costa Magica made its début in 2004, built as the sister ship of the Costa Fortuna, both ships of the Italian cruise line Costa Crociere, the same company that owned the ill-fated Costa Concordia which capsized and partially sank off the Isola del Giglio on the 13th January 2012. The ship is one of the largest in the Costa fleet, built to the same design as the Destiny-Class cruise ships operated by the Carnival Line and features a wide range of amenities for passengers to enjoy during their lengthy Mediterranean excursions.
Katakolo is a small fishing town of 600 people located on the western shore of Greece's largest island, the Peloponnes. Although very remote, the area has become a popular location for cruise ships to stop as it allows for easy connections to the Ancient Olympia site, the origin of the first Olympic games. The fertile woodland that surrounds the town is also popular amongst hikers who travel here frequently. It is also home to the Museum of Ancient Greek Technology which hosts 350 amazing inventions that date from as early as 2000 B.C. to the final years of the ancient Greek culture.

Olympia (Greek: Ὀλυμπία; Ancient Greek: [olympía]; Modern Greek: [oli(m)ˈbia] Olymbía), is a small town in Elis on the Peloponnese peninsula in Greece, famous for the nearby archaeological site of the same name, which was a major Panhellenic religious sanctuary of ancient Greece, where the ancient Olympic Games were held. The site was primarily dedicated to Zeus and drew visitors from all over the Greek world as one of a group of such Panhellenic centres which helped to build the identity of the ancient Greeks as a nation. Despite the name, it is nowhere near Mount Olympus in northern Greece, where the Twelve Olympians, the major deities of Ancient Greek religion, were believed to live.
The Olympic Games were held every four years throughout Classical antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.The archaeological site held over 70 significant buildings, and ruins of many of these survive, although the main Temple of Zeus survives only as stones on the ground. The site is a major tourist attraction, and has two museums, one devoted to the ancient and modern games.
