Στο Μουσείο εκτίθενται περίπου τα μισά όργανα της συλλογής Ανωγειανάκη, με κριτήριο όχι μόνο την αισθητική και τη διακόσμησή τους αλλά κυρίως το εθνολογικό και το μουσικολογικό τους ενδιαφέρον. Τα υπόλοιπα βρίσκονται στη διάθεση των ερευνητών και θα αποτελέσουν υλικό για κινητές εκθέσεις στην επαρχία, σε σχολεία ή για περιοδικές εκθέσεις ειδικού ενδιαφέροντος.
Η έκθεση απλώνεται σε τρεις ορόφους και περιλαμβάνει τέσσερα επίπεδα, όσες και οι οικογένειες μουσικών οργάνων που διακρίνει η εθνομουσικολογία, με κριτήριο το υλικό που πάλεται για να δώσει τον ήχο:
α) μεμβρανόφωνα
β) αερόφωνα
γ) χορδόφωνα
δ) ιδιόφωνα
Η παρουσίαση γίνεται κατά οργανολογικούς τύπους, με δίγλωσσες (ελληνικά-αγγλικά) επεξηγήσεις. Σε κάθε βιτρίνα ειδικό σύστημα ακουστικών με μουσικά παραδείγματα παρουσιάζει τον ήχο, την μουσική έκταση, τις τεχνικές παιξίματος και τους συνδυασμούς των μουσικών οργάνων που εκτίθενται σ' αυτήν.
Παράλληλα, γίνεται προσπάθεια να τοποθετηθούν τα όργανα σε τόπο και χρόνο και να συνδεθούν με τους κατασκευαστές και τους μουσικούς που τα χρησιμοποιούν, μέσα από φωτογραφικό υλικό, προβολές διαφανειών και βίντεο που παρουσιάζουν έθιμα και τελετουργίες όπου κυριαρχεί το τρίπτυχο λόγος - μουσική - χορός.
Οι στόχοι του ΜΕΛΜΟΚΕ, όπως αναφέρονται στον ιδρυτικό του νόμο, είναι οι εξής:
1. Η συλλογή, συντήρηση και έκθεση λαϊκών μουσικών οργάνων και γενικά κάθε υλικού χρήσιμου για την έρευνα, μελέτη και προώθηση της ελληνικής λαϊκής μουσικής παράδοσης,
2. Η προώθηση της έρευνας και μελέτης σε θέματα εθνομουσικολογίας καθώς και τεκμηρίωσης και διάδοσης της παραδοσιακής μουσικής,
3. Η διάσωση, μελέτη, προβολή και διάδοση της ελληνικής λαϊκής και βυζαντινής μουσικής παράδοσης, τόσο στον ελληνικό όσο και στον διεθνή χώρο με κάθε πρόσφορο μέσον,
4. Η δημιουργία ειδικής εθνομουσικολογικής βιβλιοθήκης και απτικοακουστικού αρχείου,
Το ΜΕΛΜΟΚΕ διοργανώνει επίσης μαθήματα παραδοσιακής μουσικής και εκπαιδευτικά προγράμματα για παιδιά.

Commencing Tuesday 31 July 2012, the Acropolis Museum wants to conduct research on its unique collection of archaic statues, which retain their colors to a small or large degree, and to open a very extensive discussion with the public and various experts on color, its technical issues, its detection using new technologies, its experimental use on marble surfaces, its digital reconstruction, its meaning, as well as the archaic period's aesthetic perception of color. So far, scientific research into the color found on ancient sculpture has made great progress and reached surprising conclusions that to a large degree refute the stereotypical assumptions regarding ancient sculpture. It turns out that color, far from being just a simple decorative element, added to the sculpture's aesthetic quality.
For ancient Greeks and their society, color constituted a way to characterize various attributes. The blond hair of the gods projected their power; the brown skin of warriors and athletes was a sign of virtue and valor, while the white skin of the korai expressed the grace and radiance of youth.
The Μuseum's initiative on Archaic Colors is based on very careful observation, on spectroscopic analysis, on special photography sessions, on efforts to reproduce the colors of antiquity and then to apply them on Parian marble, and naturally, on searching through written sources for valuable information on the pigments.
The statues' crisp, saturated colors, on bright garments and tender bodies, combined with the rich jewelry, frequently made of metal, and elaborately curled hair created a singular aesthetic pleasure, making the archaic statues wonderful to behold for the people of the period.

Yesterday Dec 24, 2014 while organizing my show Born in Stone the following event was taking place at The National Archaeological Museum of Athens, Greece, which hosted a Christmas concert, featuring string quartet “Arco dell’Arte,” to celebrate the festive season, starting on Christmas Eve at noon.
The program presents three top Baroque concertos written for the Christmas holiday (A. Corelli’s Concerto Op.6 No.8 in G minor “Fatto per la notte di Natale,” G.Torelli’s Concerto Op.8 No.6 in G minor, P. A. Locatelli’s Concerto Op.1 No.8 in F minor) and four arias from J. S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio” sung by mezzo-soprano Marisia Papalexiou. Marisia Papalexiou was exquisite with her vibrant voice and charming nature.

Around neighborhoods of the historical centre
The core of the historic centre is the Plaka neighborhood (at the eastern side of the Acropolis), which has been inhabited without interruption since antiquity. When you walk through the narrow labyrinthine streets lined with houses and mansions from the time of the Turkish occupation and the Neoclassical period (19th c.), you will have the impression of travelling with a time machine. You will encounter ancient monuments, such as the Lysikrates Monument, erected by a wealthy donor of theatrical performances, the Roman Agora with the famed Tower of the Winds (1st c. B.C.) and Hadrian's Library (132 A.D.), scores of bigger and smaller churches, true masterpieces of Byzantine art and architecture, as well as remnants of the Ottoman period (Fetihie Mosque, Tzistaraki Mosque, the Turkish Bath near the Tower of the Winds, the Muslim Seminary, et al.). There are also some interesting museums (Folk Art, Greek Children's Art, Popular Musical Instruments, Frysira Art Gallery, etc.), lots of picturesque tavernas, cafés, bars, as well as shops selling souvenirs and traditional Greek products.

An age-old musical tradition is unfolded and reaches our ears and our hearts, younger than ever! LyrAvlos perform music from Ancient Greece but also modern compositions written with the ancient music as a starting point. The Ensemble is characterized by strong artistic sensitivity alongside scientific accuracy. An important part of their work is made up by a research and reconstruction of ancient music instruments. The group has performed in venues and cultural institutions all over Europe, Canada and the USA, as well as in their Greek homeland.

MUSEUM OF GREEK ANTIQUITIES and ART, of KANELLOPOULOS COLLECTIONS [Μουσείο Κανελλοπούλου]
Το Μουσείο Παύλου και Αλεξάνδρας Κανελλοπούλου ιδρύθηκε το 1976, μετά τη δωρεά της ομώνυμης συλλογής στο ελληνικό κράτος. Αρχικά στεγαζόταν στο διατηρητέο νεοκλασικό αρχοντικό Μιχαλέα στην Πλάκα, ενώ από το 2010 επαναλειτουργεί με την προσθήκη σε αυτό νέας πτέρυγας, που δημιουργήθηκε με τη δωρεά της αείμνηστης Αλεξάνδρας Κανελλοπούλου. Περιλαμβάνει αντικείμενα από τους προϊστορικούς μέχρι και τους νεότερους χρόνους, αναδεικνύοντας τη διαχρονικότητα και συνέχεια της ελληνικής τέχνης.
It is housed in a neoclasssical building in Plaka, Athens. The Museum contains objects dating from the Prehistoric to the Modern era, highlighting the diachronic continuity of Greek art.
