California African American Museum
CAAM’s permanent collection consists of over 4,000 objects ranging from the 1800s to the present. It encompasses paintings, photographs, film, sculpture, historical documents, and artifacts, and it spans nineteenth-century landscape paintings to modern artworks to contemporary mixed-media reflections on cultural and political events. The Museum’s first acquisitions included a bronze bust of civil rights activist Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune by artist Richmond Barthé and a sculpture by artist Maren Hassinger, then at the start of her career. These laid the perfect groundwork for CAAM’s mandate to assemble a comprehensive, thoughtful, and wide-reaching collection.
CAAM’s deepest holdings include art made or connected to African Americans in California and the western United States. However, the Museum also has significant works of contemporary art from the African diaspora (including Haiti, Brazil, and Jamaica), as well as traditional African art from Western, Central, and Sub-Saharan Africa. CAAM aims to represent the diverse contributions of African Americans in the United States, but also to interpret how the past has affected identity in the present.
Today, CAAM oversees, exhibits, and conserves a rapidly growing collection. Each quarter, curators review the current holdings and decide as a committee on future acquisitions. We view our collection as a living body — constantly evolving, growing, and reflecting the world in which we live.
Some examples of CAAM’s collection include the photographic collection of Miriam Matthews, which comprises images of African Americans in Los Angeles from the 1880s to the 1970s; the Walter Burrell Collection of audio recordings of Burrell’s interviews with African American celebrities, broadcast by a local radio station in the early 1970s; the oral histories of Celes King, who was both a local civil rights activist as well as a former Tuskegee airman; and selections from the collection of visual artist John Outterbridge.

Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

MAKING CONTACT WITH ALIENS? ????????The Very Large Array(VLA), New Mexico ???? Full Time RV Living
MAKING CONTACT WITH ALIENS? ????????The Very Large Array, New Mexico ???? Full Time RV Living We were traveling through New Mexico and Josh has always wanted to visit the Very Large Array. We camped out at a picnic area on Highway 66. It was such a quiet spot it was eerie. We had a nights rest back in the cold weather. And headed off in the morning to the Very Large Array located on the Plains of San Agustin, 50 miles west of Socorro, New Mexico.
Josh loves science, physics, and space so he has been wanting to see the Very Large Array for a long time. It is a very famous sight. Having been in many movies, and even in a music video.
The Very Large Array is used to gather pictures from space using Radio signals. It is the most powerful one of its kind in the world. The dishes are 92 feet tall and 82 feet wide and can be moved into various formations spanning a distance of 13 miles.
Wikipedia states The VLA is a multi-purpose instrument designed to allow investigations of many astronomical objects, including radio galaxies, quasars, pulsars, supernova remnants, gamma ray bursts, radio-emitting stars, the sun and planets, astrophysical masers, black holes, and the hydrogen gas that constitutes a large portion of the Milky Way galaxy as well as external galaxies. In 1989 the VLA was used to receive radio communications from the Voyager 2 spacecraft as it flew by Neptune. It is not, despite depictions in popular culture such as the movie Contact, used to assist in the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence

How Science Created The Most Legendary Road Trip
The classic road trip. Your molded grandma’s car, your gruffy friends, a trunk filled with camping gear and canned beans, Bruce Springsteen blasting through the speakers… and no idea where you are going. Stop yourself there. It is better to make a plan and when you are at it: why not plan the ultimate, optimized and most legendary road trip ever to take place?
Randy Olson is a PhD student at Michigan State University, and some time ago - after being snowed in - Randy decided to design an algorithm that effectively solves the braincracker Where Is Waldo? Not long after that Tracy Staedter, editor of Discovery News, contacted Randy if it would be possible to apply this technology to a potential road trip.
Tracy created a list of the 50 must see stops in the States, and the the rules for the road trip are as follows:
1. The trip must make at least one stop in all 48 states in the contiguous U.S.
2. The trip would only make stops at National Natural Landmarks, National Historic Sites, National Parks, or National Monuments.
3. The trip must be taken by car and never leave the U.S.
Next step: Randy adds all the stops to the genetic algorithms. The genetic algorithm starts with a random itinerary, and then tries a bunch of small, random changes to it - maybe moving the Oregon stop in between the California and Washington stops, for example. Eventually it creates the optimized and fastest route, in the right order, through the USA.
See here the interactive version of the road trip. Curious for the hotspots that Randy and Tracy recommend? Here is the full list:
Here’s the full list of landmarks in order:
Grand Canyon, AZ
