Bluebird Electric: Pendine Speed Trials, Sat 13th Aug 2011
Saturday 13th August wasn't just the 2011 Bluebird Electric's first time on Pendine, it was only the second time Joe Wales had got behind the wheel of the vehicle. Weather conditions on the day hampered the exploratory runs but provided plenty of valuable experience for the young driver.

In this video see Don Wales, Grandson of legendary Land Speed Record holder Sir Malcolm Campbell, get behind the wheel of his grandfathers legendary Blue Bird car.
On 21st July 2015 hundreds of spectators gathered at Pendine Sands to witness Sir Malcolm Campbell’s iconic 350hp Sunbeam ‘Blue bird’ run once again on the 90th anniversary of the cars 150mph World Land Speed Record.
The anniversary, organised by the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu saw a low speed demonstration run in the restored Sunbeam with Sir Malcolm’s grandson Don Wales at the wheel.
Powered by a modified 18.322 litre V12 Manitou Arab aero engine, used more commonly in period on naval seaplanes. Donald Campbell named the Sunbeam, Blue Bird. The car holds three World Land Speed Records. The first, a speed of 133.75mph was achieved by Kenelm Lee Guinness at Brooklands in 1922. Campbell then purchased the car, painting it in his distinctive colour scheme and in September 1924 achieved a new record speed of 146.16mph at Pendine Sands, raising it the following year to 150.76mph.

There is a repeat of this sequence , better quality, with 'Babs' hurtling down a slope onto the sands, and speeding along attempting to break the record.

Weekend away at TENBY, SAUNDERSFOOT and PENDINE !!!
I’ve had an Amazing few days in TENBY it’s been so much fun ! Would love to come back again. We stayed in a lovely premier inn by The gorgeous beaches . Loads of food was eaten and enjoyed . I brought a hugmongus gobstopper /jaw breaker it’s HUGE!!

A look around Pendine & Tenby Easter Monday 2016
After overnight storms, we decided to make the most of Bank Holiday Monday, by going for a ride down the Coast to Pendine in Carmarthenshire, and on to Tenby in Pembrokeshire West Wales.
Both venues on the South West Coast of Wales, but very different in Nature...I hope you enjoy the views.

Don Wales breaking the UK Land Speed record for an electric car on Pendine Sands in 2000 during the sudden appearance of a fog bank
1960 Bluebird Proteus CN7 Land Speed Record car at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu
Donald Campbell set a new World Land Speed Record of 403.10mph (648.73kph) in this car on 17 July 1964 at Lake Eyre, South Australia. The tail fin was a late addition, after a disastrous crash at Bonneville, Utah in 1960.
This car was chosen by Louisa Braithwaite (Moving Image Conservator at Beaulieu) as her favourite vehicle on display in the National Motor Museum. Louisa in the video explains why she chose this vehicle, which has become one of the 100 fascinating museum objects featured on the Heritage100 website. The Heritage100 website highlights interesting and quirky items from museum and archive collections across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

RESTORED CAR RUNS AGAIN - COLOUR
In March 1927, John Parry Thomas was making an attempt on the Land Speed Record, when his car crashed and he was killed. The car, known as 'Babs', lay buried in the sand for over 40 years, until Mr Owen Wyn Owen decided to rescue and restore her. Fifty years to the day after the crash, 'Babs' runs again on Pendine Sands.
