Napa Valley Wine Wave, B-Roll October 7, 2012
It is official, the United States is now home to the Guinness World Record for the longest relay wine toast. On October 7th, 2012 487 people gathered at Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena and set the new world record. Labeled, The Napa Valley Wine Wave, participants defeated the previous record of 321 set by Guangzhou, China, in November 2011.
Attached is the official press release with all the pertinent details. The Napa Valley Wine Wave was created by the St. Helena Kiwanis Club, in partnership with the wineries of Appellation St. Helena, CHEERS! St. Helena and the St. Helena Chamber of Commerce, as a way to raise money for scholarships. Proceeds raised from the event go towards scholarships in the agriculture, viticulture, winemaking, business and hospitality industries.
Castle Winery Tour
Step back in time 100 years when you board the Train, and
travel back another 500 years when you reach Castello di
Amorosa. After an hour and a half on the Wine Train, journey
north to Calistoga via motorcoach. Rising above the hills
in the Napa Valley is Castello di Amorosa, which translates
to the “castle of love” in Italian. Castello di Amorosa is an
authentically styled, 13th century Tuscan castle winery. It was built during a 15 year period by Dario Sattui, a fourth generation winemaker and owner of V. Sattui Winery in St. Helena, California. Return to Napa via motorcoach along Silverado Trail.
Napa Valleys BEST SPOTS that aren’t wineries!
Today we visit one of the most picturesque, intentionally designed places in the world - Napa. Most Napa novices however don't realize that the real goods to be found in Napa are actually outside of Napa in the surrounding areas like Glen Ellen, Sonoma Valley and Yountville.

Napa County - Skyline Hike to Lake Marie
Unlike a standard park, a Citizens Association has created a diverse landscape with many amenities. The front zone of the Skyline Wilderness Park is a well-developed community park. A Native Habitat Garden brings together a variety of indigenous plants. Passing through a portal of sorts, the back zone is a wild canyon. Hiking uphill, there are wonderful views of the City of Napa. Winter rains fill small lakes connected by a musical creek. Spring brings a wondrous wildflower bloom. There’s a fig tree & the ruins of a miner’s home to explore. This park above Napa has many treasures.

Hiking to Beautiful Waterfalls in Napa Valley | Vlog
In this vlog, I take you along with me on a longer hike, on a mission to find a bunch of beautiful waterfalls after all the flooding rain California has had. I go back to the same property in the hills of the Napa Valley, located in the Stag's Leap region. I attempt to film, while hiking and navigating extremely steep, slippery and rugged terrain. It was very difficult to do! I don't have a film crew to assist me, so please forgive the crudity of my filming. It was a wonderful day out. 60 degree temperatures and sunny, breezy weather. I hiked over fern-covered hills, mossy rocks and inside a creek. I absolutely love being out in nature, even if the hike was treacherous and risky, which it most certainly was. The risks I faced today were trips, slips and falls, rattlesnake bites, Mountain Lion and Wild Boar attacks. Though falling is the far bigger risk.

[CYCLING] TOUR OF NAPA - 35 MILE RIDE || AUGUST 16, 2015
08.16.15------
Cyclists took to the roads of Napa Valley and wine country for the 39th Annual Tour of Napa Valley, hosted by the Eagle Cycling Club. The tour featured four distances (35-mile, 40-mile, 65-mile and 100-mile) so cyclists of all ages and abilities can enjoy the day.
We left around 5am and made a pit-stop at Krispy Kreme before a straight shot to Napa. Mom, Christian and I rode the 35-mile ride, which featured some rolling hills and beautiful sights of Napa. Complete with a fully loaded rest and food stop at Napa Valley College, this ride was great for those getting back into conditioning or for those who didn't want to tackle the longer distance.
Despite the heat, we enjoyed a yummy lunch and some ice cream after the ride. Thank you to the Eagle Cycling Club for hosting such a fun event!

Amador County is now home to over 30 wineries. Many are situated near Plymouth, on scenic back roads in picturesque rural terrain of historic California. Most Amador wineries are small family operations.
El Dorado, California - One of the wine world's best kept secrets lies deep in the heart of El Dorado County in the Sierra foothills. Within an hour's drive from Sacramento, you will find over 20 family-owned boutique wineries who take pride in their land, their wines, and their customers. Since becoming its own appellation in 2001, Fair Play has developed a reputation for high quality wine grapes that yield deeply flavorful, intense wines from an amazingly diverse range of grape varieties. Apple Hill area offers a number of award-winning wineries, as well.
Lodi, California - Lodi is best known from the Creedence Clearwater Revival song Lodi, and also as a center of wine production (the Zinfandel Capital of the World), although its vintages have traditionally been less prestigious than those of Sonoma and Napa counties. However, in recent years, the Lodi Appellation has become increasingly respected for its Zinfandel wine and other eclectic varietals.
Murphys, California - Murphys is rapidly becoming a mecca for wine enthusiasts, with a growing and vibrant wine industry establishing itself in and around the town. The Murphys area is currently home to more than a dozen family-owned and operated boutique wineries, all of which welcome visitors year-round for wine tasting and/or tours. Many of these wineries have tasting rooms right on Main St., within comfortable strolling distance of one another.
Placer Hills, California - The Placer County Wine Trail is a series of small family-run boutique wineries each dedicated to preserving the historic wine-making legacy of the California Sierra Foothills with passion and craftsmanship. Varietals include the highly floral Viognier to dark-berried Tempranillo and lush Barbera as just some of the samplings. Other award winning wines include smoky and spiced Syrahs, Petite Sirah and adventurous blends. Cabernet Franc and flavor intense Zinfandel and dessert wine offerings provide plentiful options for every taste and occasion
Clarksburg, California - The wineries at the Old Sugar Mill, in Clarksburg, California, are a bridge to the rich agricultural heritage of the region, whose vineyards are staking their claim alongside the great wine growing regions of the world. The Old Sugar Mill is home to a unique community of six California wineries and their signature wines: Todd Taylor Wines, Three Wine Company, The Solomon Wine Company, Heringer Estates, Clarksburg Wine Company, and the Carvalho Family Wines. Further down the road Bogle Winery, offers a lush lawn area, nestled between the tasting room deck and the vineyards, which makes for the perfect picnicking spot.

It's peak season for fall foliage in Northern California | Bartell's Backroads
Searching for fall colors in Northern California? Take a road trip to Alpine County, south of Lake Tahoe. John Bartell has the best place to see fall foliage in this Bartell's Backroads.
========================
For the text story, pictures, and the Bartell's Backroads interactive map, visit abc10.com/backroads
Autumn does exist in California and the leaves are at peak color in the state's smallest county. Alpine County is South of Tahoe, and 96% of the land here is State or National Forest. What Alpine County lacks in size and population it makes up for in big color.
Quaking aspen trees are abundant, and every October the trees attract hordes of leaf-peepers. The changing color is just as good or better than what you would find in New England, and that's what leaf-peepers like John Poimiroo wait all year for. One of the most amazing things about California is the color starts at 10,000 feet, then drop 500 feet every week, says Poimiroo.
Leaf-peepers are people who look for changing leaf colors. Poimiroo tracks the state's leaf transformations on his website, californiafallcolor.com which give other leaf-peepers a heads up on peak leaf changes. There's several fall color trees. Big leaf maple in Northern Sierra, quaking aspen, and the black oak which is called the Halloween tree, says Poimiroo.
Unlike trees in New England, trees in California go through a much longer transformation. That's because of elevation and the sun. Well, they are turning because of the light. They are getting less light every day and light makes chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what make the leaves green, says Poimiroo.
Temperature also plays a factor in leaf color. Cold temperatures and less light triggers the trees to change color and drop leaves before snow falls. Those vibrant color result from colder temperatures. We want warm days and cold nights, says Poimiroo.
Its easy to see the fall color from your car. Highway 88 in Hope Valley and Kirkwood area have a number of locations with roadside parking to view the leaves and steep mountains. Leaf season usually happens mid-October and the beginning of November in Alpine County, but leaves are changing color at different times all over California. Look for peak leaf season in your area at californiafallcolor.com
