Four exciting museums surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves at Kitanomaru Park!
In Japan, fall is called art fall. This is due to the moderate climate (compared to the hot summer). Countless art festivals and painting exhibitions are concentrated in autumn - the perfect season to visit a museum.
There are four museums with completely different line-ups in the Kitanomaru Park with its splendid autumn leaves.
When visiting Tokyo from late November to early December, don't miss this area!

◆ ◆ The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
The National Museum of Modern Art (MOMAT) was the first national art museum in Japan. The museum owns a collection of contemporary artworks from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) to the present. Japan was a closed country until the beginning of the Meiji era, but after Japan opened to the West, many young Japanese artists went abroad to study art in Europe. The Japanese painting style mixed with the influences of foreign art is very unique and interesting!
◆ ◆ Science Museum
The Science Museum is one big playground. The building has 5 fully packed floors where you can dive into science and learn something new. The exhibition is designed for all ages - from children to adults. It's a great place to deepen your understanding of science while playing or watching some live experiments in the lab.
◆ ◆ National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo - Crafts Gallery
The Crafts Gallery owns a huge collection consisting of numerous Japanese ceramics, glassware, lacquerware, dyed fabrics and graphic design lined up from the Meiji Era (1868-1912) to the present age. Pieces from the collection are shown in unique theme exhibitions. Also, the Crafts Gallery is designated as an important cultural asset.
◆ ◆ National Archives of Japan
Opened in 1971, the National Archives of Japan is the place where Japanese historical materials and important official documents are preserved. Since you can also visit the facility, please stop by and visit the permanent exhibitions and special exhibitions. It's a recommended facility not only for those who want to know more about Japanese history but also for researchers!

How does Japan stop their culture from dying?
In my opinion, Japan has one of the most recognisable cultures in the world. Their traditions, art works and way of life is indisputably ingrained into every aspect of the country - so how do they do it?

The National Art Center, Tokyo (国立新美術館 Kokuritsu Shinbijutsukan?) is a museum in Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. A joint project of the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the National Museums Independent Administrative Institution, it stands on a site formerly occupied by a research facility of the University of Tokyo. The museum has an exhibition of 600 pieces, concentrating on 20th-century painting and modern art, for its opening on January 21, 2007. The director is Hideki Hayashida. The architect for the museum was Kisho Kurokawa. The facility has 47,960 m² of floor space on a 30,000 m² site with four stories above ground and one below. Access is from Nogizaka Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line.

Tokyo Morning Run
Heading for the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum from Tokyo Station through Marunouchi Naka-dori
An exhibition featuring the English painter Edward Burne-Jones is going on at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo. I'm interested in him so I went there starting from Tokyo Station. It has been renovated for a long time but before long it's going to be completed. On my way to the museum I walked Marunouchi Naka-dor. I love this street because here and there you can see sculptural works. They make you feel as if you were already in the museum.

The Tokyo Imperial Palace is the primary residence of the Emperor of Japan (天皇). It is a large park-like area located in the Chiyoda ward (千代田区) of Tokyo (東京都) and contains buildings including the main palace (宮殿 /Kyūden), the private residences of the Imperial Family, an archive, museums and administrative offices. It is built on the site of the old Edo Castle (江戸城/Edo-jō).
Wadakura Fountain Park, which is part of Kokyo Gaien National Garden (ホテルニュー東北), was built to commemorate the royal wedding of Japan's present Emperor Akihito (明仁) and Empress Michiko (皇后美智子) in 1961. The park was reconstructed in 1995 with the postmodern theme of 'Continuity and New Development' to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Naruhito (皇太子徳仁親王) and Princess Masako (皇太子徳仁親王妃雅子). Four canals connect the new fountain to the old fountain and symbolize the Royal Weddings of two generations. Water for the fountain park is taken from Wadakura-bori moat (和田倉濠), filtered and continually re-circulated.
While the center fountain has 8.5-meter water jets, the adjacent fountains have 6.8-meter water jet. A 5.5-meter high and 30-meter wide modern art waterfall was later constructed close to the existing fountains. The 'Waterfall' and 'Monument Fountain' are connected to the original fountain by four canals to symbolize two generations of royal weddings. These fountains are illuminated at night, with the moving water and colorful illuminations creating a beautiful and tranquil effect.

Kitanomaru Park、Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo 「
The site of this park used to be part of Edo Castle. Now it is a public park neighboring the Imperial Palace. This park is noted for cherry blossom viewing. But the pleasure of visiting this park is not limited to it. It has some impressive facilities, such as Nippon Budokan, The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. It can be said that this is a kind of oasis in the middle of busy city for visitors and business persons thanks to its abundant greenery.
