The Old Jewish Cemetery (Czech: Starý židovský hřbitov, German: Alter Jüdischer Friedhof) lies in the Josefov, the Jewish Quarter of Prague in the Czech Republic. It was in use from the early 15th century (the oldest preserved tombstone, the one of Avigdor Kara, dates back to 1439) until 1787.

What is Prague Jewish quarter, Supreme Prague
What is Prague Jewish quarter? Why is the area called Josefov, where do you find it? When did Jews live in this area? How big is the current Jewish community?
All together there is no Jewish quarter today in Prague - designated area mostly populated by Jews. In Prague city center we find area called Josefov, a new area built between 1897-1914 mostly. So the old Jewish ghetto was torn down and rebuilt. However, in the area we find the old buildings remaining from the old ghetto - synagogues, cemetery, and town hall. You can visit most of the old sites - it is the Jewish museum.
Visit the Jewish quarter on guided tour with Supreme Prague:

Old Jewish Cemetery, Prague
Video of the Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague (Czech Republic), at least 600 years old, with some 12,000 grave stones visible over a dozen subterranean layers of tombs. While the Nazis usually destroyed and desecrated Jewish cemeteries, they preserved this site, expecting to convert it into a museum exhibit of an extinct race after all Jews had been exterminated.

Prague, At The Heart Of Europe - Documentary
Prague is a magic city. At the geographic centre of Europe, this capital of a now new country boasts an incredible wealth of culture. Nestling amidst the meanders of the Vlatva river, the old city is a stone’s throw from the ultra-modern district of Karlin. The Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Baroque, Art Nouveau and the communist regime have in turn left their mark on the city’s physiognomy. Mozart, Kafka, Mucha and many others have also left traces of their talent. Alternating cultural heritage with more contemporary themes, Pierre Brouwers shows us that Prague is anything but a museum city.

HOUSE OF LIFE: The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague
This solemn yet joyous documentary tells the story of The Old Jewish Cemetery in Prague, the site of layer upon layer of buried members of the once-vibrant Jewish community of the ghetto. Two thirds of a million people from all over the world now visit the cemetery each year, and House of Life chronicles its history, which is rich in lore, mysticism, tradition and philosophy. Tales of great rabbis and philanthropists and the story of the giant golem, created from clay to protect the Jewish people, are narrated by Claire Bloom. The 12,000 stones on the surface of The Old Jewish Cemetery may be covering as many as 100,000 members of Prague’s historic Jewish community. Under the German occupation in World War II, the cemetery was the only place where Jewish children were allowed to play. Later, under the communists, lovers met there for trysts. Today the neighborhood that was formerly the ghetto is quite fashionable. The cemetery serves, as does the film, as a reminder of the indomitable spirit of a people determined to honor their past and preserve the lessons of history.
