Japanese Street Food Tour Top 10 in Kyoto Japan | Nishiki Market Food Guide
Top 10 Japanese Street Food Tour in Kyoto Japan. Food Guide in Nishiki Market and Gion Area, walking street food tour to my top 10 favorite street food spots. Nishiki Market is known as Kyoto’s kitchen and it’s been around for 400 years. And one of the main reasons why Nishiki Market opened up here in Kyoto is because this very spot run clean and cold groundwater which was used a refrigeration system by shop owners back in the day. Now there about 129 stores crammed in this narrow 400 meter market and it’s equally crowded with locals and tourists alike. Many Japan tourists and Japan travelers are looking for the best food market spots at Nishki and I cover some of the best shops We try the famous Tako Tamago which is an Octopus with a quail egg inside. We also try Tamagoyaki at Kai, which is a fluffy and elegant tasting Dashimaki Tamago made only with their High-end Kyoto eggs. Dashimaki Tamago is a type of Tamagoyaki but uses a Dashi soup and is usually not sweet. Also on the menu for this Kyoto Street Food tour are Oysters, Fishcakes, Grilled Fish, Cheese Tart, Fried Chicken Karaage, Black Ramen and Melon Pan Ice Cream.
This is Japan Food Travel Guide for Japan tourists and and Kyoto travelers. So many things to see and eat in Kyoto, but I wanted to give everyone a Kyoto Street food guide on Things to do in Kyoto and where to eat in Kyoto.
Nishiki Market (錦市場 Nishiki Ichiba) (literally brocade market) is a marketplace in downtown Kyoto, located on a road one block north and parallel to Shijō Street (四条通 Shijō-dōri) and west of Teramachi Street (寺町通 Teramachi-dōri). Rich with history and tradition, the market is renowned as the place to obtain many of Kyoto's famous foods and goods.
Gion is Kyoto’s geisha district, with hostesses in colorful kimonos often sighted on the wooden Tatsumi Bridge, or amid upscale Japanese restaurants and boutiques on Hanamikoji Street.

Nishiki Market (錦市場, Nishiki Ichiba) is a narrow, five block long shopping street lined by more than one hundred shops and restaurants. Known as Kyoto's Kitchen continued from 1300 years ago, this lively retail market specializes in all things food related, like fresh seafood, produce, knives and cookware, and is a great place to find seasonal foods and Kyoto specialties, such as Japanese sweets, pickles, dried seafood and sushi.

This is a covered market that stretches out five blocks, with shops and food stands on either side, and there's a lot of seafood on the menu. Kyoto Street Food | Tour of Nishiki Market (錦市場), Japan:
Hey guys! We are Samuel and Audrey, a vlogging travel couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gō and Takao.
During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan.
Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan. If you want to see more videos from Japan in the future, let us know in the comments that places you'd like us to travel to and food experiences you would like to see on this travel channel.
Have you traveled to Japan before? What was your experience like? Please share your Japan travel tips, advice and experiences in the comments below.

Japan KYOTO STREET FOOD TOUR | 11 TOP FOODS of NISHIKI MARKET TOUR
Today I’m exploring Japan Kyoto street food at I’m at Kyoto’s 400 year old traditional market- Nishiki Market. I’m taking a comprehensive look inside the 11 top traditional foods of Nishiki Market. As the Kitchen of Kyoto, what impressed me was that Nishiki Market is an authentic market- it caters not only to tourists, but to local customers and Kyoto chefs, as well. Rather than selling hype foods like Kuromon Market in Osaka, foods and flavors sold here are also for local kitchens. One thing Kyoto has been good at is preserving their traditional culture. While you may not see many shocking things here you will get an insight into some of the culinary tastes. What would you add to this Nishik i Market Guide?

New Year in Japan | Nishiki Market | Kyoto Japan Vlog
Happy Lunar New Year! Since Chinese New Year is coming, I thought it would be a great time to share about the New Year in Japan. The most important part of a culture's celebration is in its food, so I am looking at Japan's New Year cuisine, known as osechi ryori (御節料理). I was in Kyoto with hubby (H in the subtitles) during the New Year period, so I dropped by Nishiki market which was absolutely packed with locals shopping for New Year goods.

Japanese STREET SEAFOOD Tour of Nishiki Market + Bamboo Forest | Kyoto, Japan
I’ve been traveling and documenting the world around me for over a decade and have lived in countries on both sides of the Atlantic, but in that time, I had never visited Japan until January of 2019, when I finally got the chance to go. What I experienced there blew my mind. This island nation’s culture, people, cleanliness, and natural beauty have made it one of my top travel and food destinations in the world. I hope my travels around the island of Honshu inspire you to visit Japan someday!
My Film Making Kit ►
My first day in Kyoto continued as my new friend Kosuke took me to Nishiki Market, which is a traditional fish market in the downtown area. It’s known as the Kitchen of Kyoto, so I knew I was in for some outstanding treats from the sea. At only 1,200 feet long, the market is pretty small, but there are so many shops packed into that space. I couldn’t wait to get started!
My time in the market started with some crunchy and delicious dried seaweed with sesame seeds. Then we came across some big bags of tiny crabs and more dried seaweed for just 1,100 Yen/$9.82. I tried a tiny crab with roe on it, which had an outstanding crunch and a sweet, honey-like flavor. I also tried a dried scallop, which was very dense and chewy, but very flavorful, and a small piece of bamboo shoot, which had a nice, moist crunch and an earthy flavor.
We passed some souvenir shops on our way to the next shop, which had everything from cooked fish to live fish in small tanks to animal meat on skewers, including sparrow! I tried the bone of an eel, which was crunchy and tasted like a worm!
My next culinary adventure was a small octopus with a quail egg inside (250 Yen/$2.23)! It may look a little exotic but is phenomenal. I loved it! The shop also sells large ones, which are 500 Yen/$4.47) each.
Next up were skewered rice cakes with sweet soy sauce. The consistency was gooey and almost slimy, similar to that of a mochi, and the sweet soy sauce was incredibly tasty. They’re very filling!
Next, we found a shop selling samplers of lots of different things, including baby sardines, which were dry, salty, and sticky. I followed that with kelp, which was also sticky and would go really well with rice.
At the next shop, we found bags of bonito flakes that you can eat like popcorn! Next, we visited a shop that offers over 100 different varieties of sake! I sampled some that was really good and quite strong and followed that with a full cup (400 Yen/$3.57) that was cold, dry, fruity, and delicious! Kyoto is famous for its sake, so be sure to try it when you come here!
This market has everything! As we continued, we passed by shops selling white strawberries, shoes, chopsticks, a fish market that was butchering and selling fish pieces, and much more!
Even though I was getting full, I had a Sakura Mochi (170 Yen/$1.52), which is a pink mochi wrapped in a salted cherry leaf, and a grilled green tea mochi (also 170 Yen/$1.52). The Sakura mochi was salty and grainy, almost like a sticky polenta, and had red bean paste inside it. So good! And the grilled green tea mochi was gooey and smoky and also fantastic!
Next, we passed by a shop selling sea urchin, huge oysters, snails, and roe, but I was so full I couldn’t eat anymore, so we left the market and set off to one of Kyoto’s most popular and most beautiful attractions, the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove!
On our way, we stopped at a mountaintop temple (300 Yen/$2.68 entry) where a nearby section of the mountainside is dotted with over 1,000 beautiful Buddha statues! Some of them are even holding things like surfboards, tennis racquets, and baseball bats! It’s so far away from the city that not many people visit it, but it’s worth the trip!
Then, we arrived at Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, which is made up of a fast-growing bamboo that grows up to 60 feet in one month! It’s so beautiful and peaceful and the air smells so pure. Kosuke explained to me that all of the bamboo shoots are one organism with a shared root system!
Wow, what a day! I hope you enjoyed my awesome Japanese street seafood tour of Kyoto! If you did, please give it a thumbs up, leave me a comment below, and subscribe to my channel!

TRADITIONAL FOOD MARKET & All You Can Eat Buffet in Kyoto Japan
I can't leave Japan without going to the Nishiki Market. It's one of my favorite markets in Kyoto Japan. They have many delicious and different varieties of foods for you to try all over in the market. For dinner, I walked around Kyoto, and I found a vegetable all you can eat buffet near the hotel I was staying at. I have to say as a meat lover, the vegetarian buffets in Kyoto are actually really really good. :-)

In Kyoto, Japan, there is a bunch of different street foods to try. It's quite a small town but there is a lot to eat, and much much more than regular Japanese sushi and sashimi!
First, we are going to the Nishiki market, where we try some delicious seafood like Giant Mussels, amazing Tuna and Salmon sashimi, tasty raw uni sea urchin and oysters, takoyaki octopus and also some okonomiyaki Japanese pancakes. You could spend a lifetime trying all the different snacks and ramen restaurants around this street food market. We wanted to try a little more Japanese cuisine outside of the market, so we kept Foodrangin' for more and found the most delicious fried tempura of your dreams. It was perfectly crispy and yet succulent and soft too. The shrimp was springy and fresh, and the eel was so flavourful!
After the delicious Japanese tempura, we went for some delicious Sushi. It was one of those famous conveyor belt sushi restaurants, and to be honest, it was not the most amazing sushi in Japan, but it was still a fun experience. We tried salmon nigiri, raw tuna nigiri, uni sea urchin, otoro fatty tuna belly, and more, like raw squid nigiri and a few other cuts of fish as well.
To finish off the day, we went for an amazing bowl of Japanese ramen. It was shoyu ramen made from pork bones and a rich soy sauce. There was nice and fatty slices of pork and tons of delicious and springy noodles along with fried gyoza Japanese dumplings as well!
It was some of the BEST Japanese street food in Japan! Everything we tried was delicious!
Here are the addresses for all of these amazing Japanese street foods:
1) Giant Mussels, Seafood, Takoyaki, and Okonomiyaki - Nishiki Market
2) Incredibly soft and flavourful Japanese Tempura -Tendon Makino Kyoto Teramachi
3) Conveyor belt sushi and sashimi with tons of different cuts of Japanese seafood - Sushi No Musashi
4) Amazing Japanese Shoyu Ramen - Kyoto Takabashi Honke Daiichi Asahi
