These are complemented by aspects of daily life and Greek society in the Museum's rich folklore collection. The Old Parliament Building was founded in 1858 by Queen Amalia and designed by Francois Boulanger. It was the first permanent home of the Greek Parliament. It was modified by the Greek architect Panagiotis Kalkos and completed in 1875. It was used by Parliament until 1935 and has since been the Museum of Modern History.

The coin, first of all it is kept in extremely nice condition. You can see every detail in the coin as if it was minted yesterday. The coin from the artistic point of view is supposed to be one of the most important achievements of Greek art at all, especially of coinage. The person who engraved the dies

STORYLINE:
An ancient Greek coin believed to be one of the world's most valuable is on public display for the first time at the Israel Museum.
The Aetna Tetradrachm, on loan from the Royal Library of Belgium, has not been offered for sale for more than 100 years, but a conservative estimate of its value is more than US$3 million.
Thought to have been minted sometime between 476 and 461 B.C. in Sicily, the Aetna Tetradrachm is the only one of its series ever discovered and is believed to be the creation of a legendary but unnamed engraver and craftsman known as the Master of Aetna.
This exceptional coin has acquired a remarkable reputation and is considered among the most splendid achievements of Greek classical art,
said Haim Gitler, numismatic curator at the Israel Museum.
When in circulation, the coin was worth four drachmas, the basic unit of Greek currency.
Visitors to the exhibit can clearly see the intricate detail on both sides of the well-preserved silver coin, just over 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter, as
it rotates in a clear lucite disc lit with blue light.
The face of the coin features the profile of Silenos, a mythical half-man, half-goat creature known as a satyr, with realistically sculpted details such
as a muscular neck, a full beard and bulging eyes.
The exhibit points out that such realism is considered cutting-edge for a coin from the fifth century B.C.
The coin's reverse depicts the Greek god Zeus, seated on a throne with a thunderbolt in one hand and a staff in the other.
The exhibit, which features other Greek coins from the same era, runs until October 16.
Although the Israel Museum is billing the coin as the world's most valuable, the coin with the best claim to that title is the 1933 Double
Eagle, one of which was auctioned for US$7.59 million to an anonymous buyer in July 2002.
