PACAYA VOLCANO: day-trip Active volcano in Guatemala w/ OX Expeditions
PACAYA VOLCANO: 2552 meters / Status: Active Volcano
One of Guatemala's most active, easy and fun volcano tours for the whole family, Volcan Pacaya is the little volcano that just keeps on giving. More quiet now since the last eruption in May 2010, it is easy to trek over cooled lava flows in search of gas vents and HOT spots to roast marshmallows. Join us on a professional, private day tour of this diverse and interesting volcano.

Volcano Hiking Acatenango in Guatemala with OX
I highly recommend OX tours for a professional guided tour of volcanoes in Guatemala about an hour outside of Antigua. We had a meeting the night before the adventure to prep us on what to expect, what to bring and how to stay safe. The service provided everything from clothing to cooked meals and wine. This was a one of a kind experience that we will never forget.
GUIDE WORK with OX Expeditions

Working with OX would afford you the opportunity to gain valuable leadership and guiding skills, live and work in an international location, have a physically, mentally and spiritually stimulating job and be immersed in a totally foreign culture. And of course, have a whole lot of fun doing it. If you are interested in joining our Guide Team, send your application email to info@oxexpeditions.com GUIDE WORK as the subject, for more information.
OX-KNOW HOW: TIPS for Packing your Backpack
HOW TO PACK YOUR BACKPACK for an OX Overnight tour like the Volcan Acatenango and Fuego tours. As well as the Pacaya Volcano overnight trip. The OX Team wants you to be comfortable and prepared up in the mountains that is why we provide little extras and the gear you need to have a great time. Family Exploring a Volcano: Tour with Old Town Outfitters in Antigua, Guatemala
We went on a 1/2 day guided tour with Old Town Outfitters
[ ] to explore the Volcan Pacaya, a local volcano that last erupted in a major way in 2014 and 2010. It is still spewing lava but slowly. I'd never been on a guatemala volcano hike or to any guatemala volcano so we were pretty excited. Our guides, Alex and Mono were excellent, especially with the kids. The trail is not nearly as steep or rugged as I made it seem. Just that talking and hiking makes it harder to get enough wind sometimes. The boys had no problem as it is only about 4km to the high point. After that we descended into the lava field to roast marshmallows over vents and then enjoy a home made vegetarian meal that was fantastic. We learned a lot from Mono, a local, about plants and animals and the geologic and thermal features in the area. On our way down we followed a path down the other side so we didn't have to back track.
If we go back, I'd really like to take the overnight trip to Acatenango Volcano to see the glowing lava at night. They have a lot of other antigua guatemala volcano tours and trips and they were very accommodating and provided a lot of information about the history and culture of the area.

Guatemala Mountain Biking Holiday - Route of the Conquistadores with KE Adventure Travel
Watch KE's Biking Product Manager, Kit Wilkson's video - A Ride on the Wild Side of Guatemala with KE Adventure Travel. We begin our adventure in Antigua, once the capital of Guatemala and also the centre of Spanish Colonial administration for the whole of Central America and Mexico. Here, we start out with a short, introductory ride on the slopes of Volcan de Agua, climbing 500 metres on a forest track and descending on a technical singletrack trail overlooking the city. Over the next 3 days, a mix of dirt road biking and singletrack takes us to Lake Atitlan, surely a contender for the most beautiful lake in the world, with its towering volcanoes, azure water and Mayan inhabitants. This is a full-on mountain bike holiday aimed at regular mountain bikers with a taste for the undiscovered. Working with one of the few ‘real mountain bikers' in Guatemala, the first half of the holiday will cover a lot of singletrack that has thus far been biked only by the locals and by KE groups.
Biking to Protect Guatemala’s Rainforest
Winding through the lush rainforests below Guatemala’s Volcan de Agua is a growing mecca for mountain biking. Known as El Zur, the 2,500-acre private nature reserve was created to protect the land. Turns out, the best way to protect the land sustainably is to offer a variety of outdoor activities. Join guide José Pablo Jelkmann Mendía as he takes us through this pristine paradise on bike, replete with lush trails, suspension bridges and dreamlike waterfalls.

Bicycle Touring the Mountains of Guatemala -BikeHikeSafari - Ep. 21
Bicycle touring in the mountains of Guatemala is hard work.

It is easy for people to think that Bicycle touring is easy, all about easy roads and lots of smiles and good times. Sometimes it is tough, so hard that giving up is an option. Luckily, the tough days are only temporary.
We cycle Guatemala state highway 5, which is nothing more than a dirt road. We also go in search of the state bird of Guatemala, the Quetzel.
Then there are the amazing places such as Semuc Champey and the incredibly friendly people that e met along the way.
Cycling on Guatemala is a crazy experience.

Guatemala Pacaya Volcano Hike
Pacaya Volcano is one of three active volcanos and undoubtably Guatemala's most popular day adventure.
Hike, Snorkel and Rappel to find the Mystery of the Maya
For outdoor enthusiasts and pre-Columbian history buffs the Central American neighbors of Belize and Guatemala offer the best of both worlds. Swim to a jungle cave to find Maya ceremonial artifacts. Discover the jewel of Maya civilization at Tikal. Rappel down a 300-foot sink hole and snorkel in Belize's South Water Caye Marine Reserve. Virgin rainforests with orchids, howler monkeys and toucans and hundreds of species of exotic birds make getting to these magical and mysterious Maya sites half the fun.
Highlights
• Swim, hike, and climb your way to Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave to view the ceremonial pottery, burial chambers and petrified remains of ancient Maya.
• Discover the beautiful underwater world of Belize's barrier reef while snorkeling in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve.
• Hike to the edge of the Black Hole, a large sinkhole used for Maya religious ceremonies, and rappel into its 300-foot crater.

Guatemala’s Premier Hiking Experience
Acatenango is a must do trip while here in Guatemala.
Next door Volcan de Fuego is the world’s most consistently erupting volcano, and with some luck, will provide a high altitude firework show for you to enjoy from the cozy campsite. Our guides will provide a campfire, hot drinks, and a tasty dinner.
Our overnight hike takes us up the summit the next morning for an incredible sunrise over Guatemala. From the crater we will have a new vantage point of Volcan Fuego, a view of the chain of giant volcanoes stretching from Mexico to El Salvador, the Pacific Coast, and the Antigua Valley.
