Engineer's View Tour of the San Diego S Gaugers Layout January 2, 2016
This video provides an Engineer's View Tour of the San Diego S Gaugers modular model railroad layout. Among the new features is the military aircraft museum. The club's modular layout currently sports twenty two modules designed to the NASG S-MOD standards. The layout is equipped with five different power systems: AC, DC, DCC, and Lionel's Legacy and Track Power Controller systems; at the flip of a switch, an operator can select the system needed for the engine he wants to run. Designed to accommodate any S Scale model railroader, the layout has a rich mix of scale and high-rail, modern and vintage, equipment. Sara's Town: Episode 24 - San Diego Model Railroad Museum
Sara's Town
Episode 24
San Diego Model Railroad Museum
Train Lover's Episode
It all goes miniature in this episode as Sara visits the largest model railroad museum in North America. Located in San Diego in historic Balboa Park, the San Diego Model Railroad Museum boasts 27,000 square feet of model railroad layouts. From the intricately detailed N and HO scale to the noisy and fast toy trains, Sara learns what it takes to be a railroad modeler from museum director Anthony Ridenhour. This is miniature railroading on a massive scale!
Sara even drives a train along Southern California's famous Pacific Desert Line. Accuracy is the name of the game here as modelers share the historical and topographic detail of their layouts. The famous Tehachapi Loop, where trains cross over themselves, is captured in 1/87th detail in a layout more than 90 feet long.
Sara drives a trolley! Visit the Centennial Garden where 1915 San Diego has been recreated using old fashioned modeling skills and modern 3D printing technology. Visitors here can drive San Diego's original trolleys along an old trolley route past Balboa Park's iconic structures reproduced in miniature.
Finally, nothing but fun in the Toy Train Gallery! Meet some famous characters, including a giant marshmallow man, at the completely original toy train layout sponsored by the San Diego 3-Railers.
You can find more info including directions and museum hours at:
What episode would be complete without Sara's Cam? You'll meet her newest pet, the energetic and lovable Stefano the chinchilla as Sara tries to capture him on camera.
This is the twenty-fourth episode of Sara's Town: a YouTube series created, written and hosted by Sara McMahon. In an interesting and family-friendly way it features the people and businesses of Southern California. Sara's vision is to be a positive role model for children. She wants to Help kids be kids by letting them enjoy the everyday blessings all around us - sometimes right in our own hometown.
DVD's and Blu-rays can be ordered or Sara can be reached at DaisyTelevision@gmail.com

Train Simulator 2020 - San Diego Trolley - Siemens/Düwag U2 to Gaslamp Quarter
While the Düwag U2 was primarily used in Frankfurt, modified versions were built and exported to Canada and the United States of America. The only US system to receive these units was the San Diego Trolley, for which 71 sets were built in 1980. The last of these was retired in 2015, and 18 were sold to the city of Mendoza in Argentina. Six of the ex-SD Trolley U2 trains are preserved in the US.
In this scenario, we will be driving a trio of Düwag U2's on a short section of the San Diego Trolley's Green Line. We start at San Diego Old Town and finish at Gaslamp Quarter, stopping at the following stations on the way:
Washington Street
Middletown
Little Italy
San Diego Santa Fe Depot
Seaport Village
Convention Centre
Gaslamp Quarter
San Diego Trolley - The 2037 Quacks As It Leaves Old Town
Bound for 12th & Imperial Transit Center, The 2037 gives a warning that it's about to begin moving by quacking. Also known as a quiet horn, in the San Diego Trolley system it is referred to as a Quacker. The Quacker is used to warn people in the area that the train is about to begin moving, that the doors are blocked and cannot close, or any time a warning signal is needed without use of the full volume (or Federal) horn. The 2037, a Siemens SD-100 car, has an electromechanical Quacker, where as the newer S70 & SD8 cars have electronic Quackers.

Watch in HD!!!
On December 5, 2015 in San Diego to watch the Denver Broncos face the Chargers for possibly the last time at Qualcomm Stadium, I finally got to go to the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. I had a great time seeing the wonderful layouts of The San Diego & Arizona Eastern as well as their famous recreation of the Tehachapi Pass. In this video, you will see multiple meets, old and new power, various freight loads, and multiple camera angles of these fantastic layouts. Please feel free to like, comment, and/or leave feedback as it is greatly appreciated. Enjoy The Video & Thanks For Watching!!!!
Visiting the San Diego Railway Museum part I
Well, this year's vacation was shorter than usual, but it was well worth the trip. We visited the San Diego Railway Museum in Campo, CA, and rode their Golden State Excursion to the border and back up in the cab of their SP EMD GP9 that was pulling the train. The SDRM's collections were quite impressive, as well as their facilities. After touring the museum collections, we boarded their Golden State Excursion. The cab ride was noisy, but thankfully they gave us proper ear protection both ways. All in all, it was a great trip.
