Hawkes Bay Wine Tasting
We rented bikes from On Yer Bike which is a company we would defiantly recommend. From there, we rode from vineyard to vineyard tasting a multitude of wines. What a great way to do tasting! We also made some wonderful friends along the way.

WINE TASTING | Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
Good weather, good wine, gooooood weekend!
Hawkes Bay Winery Trail
To celebrate my dad's birthday we did a family trip to Hawkes bay and hit up some of the incredible vineyards down there. I am honestly the worlds worst vlogger because I always end up regretting not filming more when I get to editing. It's more awkward that it's my dad's birthday and he doesn't even feature in the video... Hopefully I can be a bit more successful in my next vlog.
Hope you have an awesome week!!

Gimblett Gravels, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand
In the 1860’s, huge floods dominated New Zealand’s region of Hawkes Bay, turning many rivers into land. After the floods subsided the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left. Made up of red metal, alluvial soils, gravel and stone terraces, these vineyards provide excellent free draining soils while the gravels hold the heat allowing many late ripening grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah to develop complex, powerful flavours while the cool nights allow the fruit to retain fresh, crisp elegance.
First Big Investment | Napier | Bicycle Wine Tour | Minimalist and Free | Episode 8
On the road to freedom. YES, we have just settled on our first big investment together. A 3 bedroom house in Napier. We worked all the numbers and took the plunge. Ben has been working in Wellington so travels a day earlier to the Hawkes Bay region and Emma travels down the following day from Auckland after school finishes. We viewed the property for the first time, met our new property manager and tradies to discuss renovations.
Once we finished at the house we headed out with Bike About Tours for a bicycle wine tour around Napier. Join us for the ride...

New Zealand Wine Country - Hawke's Bay
Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s warmest, driest regions and this has made it one of the country’s leading producers of wine; notably red wines – cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah – but also with some quite stunning whites. The region is the first stop on the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, and it's a popular place for bicycle wine tours.

Napier to Taupo----New Zealand motor biking part 1
Napier (/ˈneɪpiər/ nay-pi-ər; Māori: Ahuriri) is a New Zealand city with a seaport, located in Hawke's Bay on the eastern coast of the North Island. The population of Napier is about 62,100 as of the June 2016.[1] About 18 kilometres south of Napier is the inland city of Hastings. These two neighbouring cities are often called The Bay Cities or The Twin Cities of New Zealand. The total population of the Napier-Hastings Urban Area is 131,000 people, which makes it the sixth-largest urban area in New Zealand, closely followed by Dunedin (118,500), and trailing the Hamilton Urban Area (230,000), and Tauranga (134,400),.
Napier is about 320 kilometres northeast of the capital city of Wellington. Napier (62,100) has a smaller population than its neighbouring city of Hastings (68,900) but is seen as the main centre due to it being closer in distance to both the seaport and the main airport that service Hawke's Bay. The City of Napier has a land area of 106 square kilometres and a population density of 540.0 per square kilometre.
Napier is the nexus of the largest wool centre in the Southern Hemisphere, and it has the primary export seaport for northeastern New Zealand – which is the largest producer of apples, pears, and stone fruit in New Zealand. Napier has also become an important grape and wine production area, with the grapes grown around Hastings and Napier being sent through the Port of Napier for export. Large amounts of sheep's wool, frozen meat, wood pulp, and timber also pass through Napier annually for export. Smaller amounts of these materials are shipped via road and railway to the large metropolitan areas of New Zealand itself, such as Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.
Napier is a popular tourist city, with a unique concentration of 1930s Art Deco architecture, built after much of the city was razed in the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. It also has one of the most photographed tourist attractions in the country, a statue on Marine Parade called Pania of the Reef. Thousands of people flock to Napier every February for the Tremains Art Deco Weekend event, a celebration of its Art Deco heritage and history. Other notable tourist events attracting many outsiders to the region annually include F.A.W.C! Food and Wine Classic events, and the Mission Estate Concert at Mission Estate and Winery in the suburb of Taradale.
Hawke's Bay is Wine Heaven
013 - Napier
Napier, a small city full of character, is located in Hawke's Bay which is famous for it's wine. Hawke's Bay has produced some of New Zealand's finest wine since the first vines were planted back in 1851. Hawke's Bay is a great place to sample a number of different fantastic wines due the established Wine Tourism Trail. Recommended Wineries:
Mission Estate: for $5 you get a Mission Estate wine glass (we use them to feel super posh at campsites) and a taste of 8 different wines. The grounds and the building at Mission Estate are also beautiful. I actually preferred the wine at some of the other wineries we visited but the location and wine glasses should not be missed!
Church Road: a 2 minute cycle down the road from Mission Estate you stumble across Church Road. The grounds and the building are much less fancy but the wine speaks for itself. You can do a free wine tasting of 4 of their cheaper wines or paid wine tastings from $5-$20 of some of their more expensive bottles (if buy a bottle of wine you don't have to pay the tasting fee). My favourite wine from Church Road, and in fact New Zealand so far, was their Pinot Gris ( If you are in the area this winery is a must!
