Oregon City
A video postcard of Oregon City, Oregon. Oregon City was established at Willamette Falls on the Willamette River in 1829 by John McLoughlin for the Hudson's Bay Company, to utilize the power of the falls to operate a lumber mill. In 1844, Oregon City became the first incorporated city west of the Rocky Mountains, and was considered the final stop of the Oregon Trail. The Oregon City Bridge, designed by Conde B. McCullough, is a steel half-through arch structure constructed in 1922 (although it appears to be a concrete arch due to the gunite concrete coating over the steel arch members).

Blacktail Deer-Oregon City 07-16-10.MPG
This is one of my favorite haunts to get pictures of Oregon Blacktails feeding. The Blacktail is it's own species of deer. The are throughout the Pacific Northwest living along the Cascade Mountain to the coast. The following bucks that are in this short video are known as Columbian Blacktails. Since they have scraped the velvet off, I do not see the group of 8 anymore. Get into the 3 X 3's still, and will see what happens later in the year on these bucks and see how many survive the hunting season

What are some of your favorite sites?
Not everyone knows about this enchanting stretch of the Oregon Coast. And that’s part of its charm.
Here you have plenty of room to explore, whether that means hiking, biking or paddling — along rocky shorelines and long, sandy beaches; bays, rivers and estuaries; coastal mountains and temperate old-growth rainforest. Trails range from wheelchair-accessible to difficult, so every family member can get outdoors. Surrounded by nature, each community has its own distinct character. Discover a variety of amenities in these friendly villages: fishing and crabbing; shops, art galleries and restaurants; campgrounds, cottages and luxury lodges. At Yachats, Waldport and Seal Rock, it’s all up to you.
Sometimes you need to unplug and rejuvenate. That’s easy to do in Yachats, the little coastal town on Oregon’s Central Coast where you might look up from your crab cakes to admire a bald eagle wheeling overhead or a grey whale spouting beyond the surf. With innovative restaurants and shops and the forest and ocean as your playground, it’s a breeze to fill three days with activities — or just gaze at the waves and revel in quiet solitude.ttps://traveloregon.com/places-to-go/regions/waldport-yachats-and-seal-rock/
The artful arch of the Alsea Bay Bridge signals your arrival in Waldport, a coastal community 15 miles south of Newport on the Central Coast. Like the bridge, Waldport spans the mouth of Alsea Bay, a waterway renowned for crabbing and rich with wildlife. With easy access to the ocean, the bay and the vast woodlands of the Siuslaw National Forest, Waldport makes an ideal base for outdoor recreation year-round.

Willamette River Bridge Celebration August 2013
The Field of Dreams promise — if you build it, they will come — certainly proved true for the Oregon Department of Transportation in summer 2013, as hundreds of local citizens flocked to celebratory events for the nearly complete Willamette River Bridge project.
Before the first vehicles traversed the largest and most visible replacement bridge in ODOT's $1.3 billion OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program, ODOT hosted a community event to celebrate its completion. On Aug. 3, 2013 the communities of Eugene and Springfield were invited to explore the deck of the bridge on foot before it opened to traffic. To kick off the celebration, Kidical Mass Eugene and ODOT organized a children's bicycle ride across the structure. Hundreds of other visitors climbed a six-story stair tower (aided by employees of contractor Hamilton Construction) to enjoy big-sky views and admire the recently installed River sculpture by artist Lillian Pitt. Visitors took a self-guided walking tour of the project, including design enhancement locations and park improvements.
ODOT is delighted with the results: An estimated 1,000 local kids, artists, cyclists, local media, public officials and community members alike flocked to the Whilamut Passage Bridge to celebrate a job well done.
