Palawan WW2 memorial museum, Puerto Princesa, Philippines
In 1944 the area was controlled, as were the rest of the Philippines, by the Imperial Japanese Army which had captured the country and held the people along with US Military prisoners under brutal conditions. In Palawan American POW’s were being held in order to construct a Japanese airfield. The prisoners were held under harsh conditions with little to eat and a lack of medical care.
In 1944 the US Military returned to the Philippines to liberate the islands. The US had been sending flights over the island and had conducted a few bombing runs. The prisoners in Palawan, officially designated as Camp 10-A, had dug air raid shelters in order to escape any bombs dropped on the camp. The Japanese army had been seeing ships passing by and had endured a few raids so they knew a landing force was imminent. With each bombing run or ship sighting the treatment of the POW’s got worse.
The location of the POW Internment Camp is now a park: Plaza Cuartel located adjacent to Immaculate Conception Cathedral, the city’s main Church.
During the tour, you’ll find many interesting things inside the museum. The place is sprawling with old military warfare and vehicles. Different weapons of old are carefully preserved and showcased inside glass cases. Guns of different shapes and sizes are a sight to behold, not to mention the World War II jeep that is parked near the entrance. One of the famous artifacts displayed are the old weaponry and clothes of the Palaweño guerillas who fought in the war. Aside from weaponry and armor, paintings are posted on the wall depicting not only the Word Wars but also the cultural heritage of Palawan. There are also posters containing information on land, sea and air vehicles used in WW2.
Entering the Palawan Special Battalion WW2 Memorial Museum only costs about P30. Children below 10 years old are given free entrance. The museum is open daily from 8am to 12nn and at 1pm to 5pm.

Palawan: Rise To the Top
Palawan: Rise To The Top #itsmorefuninthephilippines
Designated as The Most Beautiful Island in the World by Condé Nast in 2015, Palawan is truly the Last Frontier in the Philippines. It is the same island region in the Philippines where Disney did their research on the clown fish for their feature film Finding Nemo. It is also the same islands from where Alex Garland was inspired to write the book The Beach which was ultimately made into a film and shot on location in Thailand, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
The video was shot entirely in 4K with the DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone in El Nido, Palawan, Philippines; edited down to HD (1080P) for YouTube.
Thank you to the wonderful people at El Nido Resorts and the Philippines. Mabuhay!

Puerto Prinsesa
They don't call this city in Palawan a premier ecotourism destination for nothing. Aside from kilometers after kilometers of white beaches, Puerto Princesa overflows with spectacular natural wonders like lagoons, mangroves, waterfalls, caves, limestone cliffs, and world-famous diving sites teeming with marine life and coral reefs. The main attraction in this destination, though, is the Subterranean River National Park, which is part of UNESCO's World Heritage list.

BEST FOR ISLAND HOPPING! SANTA LOURDES, PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN
Honda Bay (Spanish: Bahía Honda, deep bay) is a bay on the eastern shore of the island of Palawan[1] near Puerto Princesa City in the southwestern Philippines. Numerous small islands are scattered in the bay, including Arrecife Island which is home to an upscale resort.
The bay is used for both subsistence and commercial fisheries and recreation. Boats can be rented for the day and used for travel to nearby islands, many less than 45 minutes from the shore by boat. Honda Bay is ideal for snorkeling. Starfish are commonly found near islands such as Starfish Island. Puerto Princesa is the nearest port city, and is accessible by plane.
From 1953 to 1976 the nearby Palawan Quicksilver Mine used mine tailings from their ore extraction processes to produce a jetty at Honda Bay.[2] The village of Sitio Honda Bay was erected on these mine tailings.[2] Environmental studies indicate that some residents of the village and elsewhere near the mine have toxic levels of mercury in their blood.[2]
