The Palazzo del Podestà is a civic building in Bologna, northern Italy. The edifice was built around 1200 as the seat of the local podestà, the various functionaries of the commune. It stands on the Piazza Maggiore, near the Palazzo Comunale and facing the Basilica of San Petronio.
Proving insufficient for the massive participation of the people in the city's government, it was in 1245 flanked by the Palazzo Re Enzo, over which stands the Torre dell'Arengo, whose bell was used to call the people during emergencies. The Palazzo del Podestà is a long building, with a large hall on the upper floor. The lower floor is a double open arcade, the so-called Voltone del Podestà, through which pass two lanes of shops.
In 1453 Aristotile Fioravanti replaced the bell and reconstructed the original Gothic façade in the Renaissance style by order of Giovanni II Bentivoglio. In the Voltone, in 1525, were placed the terracotta statues of the city's protectors, Sts. Petronius, Proculus, Dominic and Francis, all by Alfonso Lombardi. In the 16th-18th centuries the Palazzo was used as theatre. In the 20th century it was frescoed by Adolfo de Carolis.

Voltone del Podesta
Essentially a vault with paintings and terracotta statues of Saints Petronius, Proclus, Dominic and Francis by Alfonso Lombardi and placed here in 1525. However, these arches are also the central support of Ardengo's Tower within the grounds of Palazzo del Podestà. Acoustic resonances illustrated by whispering in the corners reveal a fun game here.

The Palazzo del Podestà is a historic building in the city of Bergamo, is part of the network of the Museum of stories in Bergamo managed by the Bergamo Foundation in history. The building, for centuries called Hospitium potestatis , is located in Piazza Vecchia, former Piazza Nuova. The ancient staircase connects it to the great room of the Capriate of the Palazzo della Ragione ; the northernmost part of the façade opens onto Piazza Duomo in front of the Basilica of Sant'Alessandro . The palace includes the bell tower .
The history of the Palazzo del Podestà follows the history of Bergamo. Its position is divided between two squares: Piazza Vecchia, bureaucratic and administrative headquarters with the Palazzo della Ragione , and Piazza Duomo, the clerical seat with the church of San Vincenzo and Sant'Alessandro , the Congregation of Mercy Maggiore , makes it a significant part of the city.
It was built in the twelfth century by the Ghibelline faction family of Suardi, the notarial deeds named it as Palazzo ex Zentilino Suardo and used as a residential building. The bloody struggles between the faction or Guelph or Ghibelline town families, led the Suardi family to lose ownership of the palace that became the Hospitium potestatis , owned by the municipality and residence of the podestà up to the fourteenth century .
The building underwent a first fire in 1360 which required restoration. In a notarial deed of 1442, there was a change of ownership to the Avogadro brothers, who sold a part of it to the Congregation of Greater Mercy. After 1428 with the Venetian rule , it changed the appearance of the city and the destination of the different buildings. The building was enlarged, an entrance to the square was opened and the external staircase connected to the hall of the Capriate of the Palazzo della Ragione. and took the name of the palace of the Jurists , with this name the southern part of the civic tower is still identified .
In 2012, the historic interactive museum of the Venetian age was set up in the halls of the building, part of the Bergamo Foundation in non-profit history. Following a path that is divided into seven rooms, there is a historical period that since 1492 , the year of the discovery of America and its commercial development, leads to the knowledge of the Republic of Venice, its power and its trade.
In the interactive rooms we are transported in the Middle Ages, through a journey that leads from Venice to Bergamo, a visit that helps to interact in the sixteenth century, meeting the places and characters who made the history of Bergamo of those years. The city represented in the sixteenth century , accompanies the visitor to the construction of the Venetian walls and the destruction of churches and monasteries that were an obstacle to their construction, such as the church of Sant'Alessandro in Colonna and the monastery of Santo Stefano reaching up to Porta Sant ' Alexander , with the colors and sounds of the great fair that was outside the walls, and that came up to the walls.

Palazzo Re Enzo is a palace in Bologna, northern Italy. It takes its name from Enzio of Sardinia, Frederick II's son, who was prisoner here from 1249 until his death in 1272. The palace was built between 1244-1246 as an extension of the nearby Palazzo del Podestà, which had proven insufficient for the exigences of the Commune of Bologna. It was therefore initially known as Palatium Novum (New Palace).
Three years after the palace completion, Enzio was captured by the Guelphs at the Battle of Fossalta, and after a short stay in Anzola he was moved here, where he remained until his death. Enzio was allegedly left free within the palace by day, but by night he was kept into a cage hanging from the ceiling. He was also allowed to meet women: in his will he mentions three natural daughters, but a legend talks about a fourth son he had from a peasant, Lucia di Viadagola. The son was called Bentivoglio, from the words Amore mio, ben ti voglio that he said to his beloved (meaning My love, I'm fond of you), and he would be the ancestor of the Bentivoglio family, later rulers of Bologna.
In 1386 Antonio di Vincenzo finished the Sala dei Trecento (Hall of the Three-Hundred), which was to become the city's archive. The last floor was largely renovated in 1771 by Giovanni Giacomo Dotti. The current Gothic appearance dates from the restoration of 1905 due to Alfonso Rubbiani.
On the right of the palace is the access to the chapel of Santa Maria dei Carcerati, where the condemned to death went to. In the first floor was held the Carroccio and the war machines, while in the middle floor were the offices of the praetor and the chapel.

Visit
With his back to the Basilica St. Petronio, Ryeberg looks out on the platea communis of Bologna, the Piazza Maggiore, and watches the Bolognese pass by. It's a warm and windy September day, year 2012. Northwest across the square is Giambologna's Fountain of Neptune (1567), with its lactating nereids. Beside it, to the west, the Palazzo d'Accursio, flying the Bologna town flag, and on the other side, the Palazzo del Podestà, known as the old building (1200). The east side of the square is framed by the 16th century Palazzo dei Banchi, with its long open arcade. Beauty.

Places to see in ( Bologna - Italy ) Museo di Palazzo Poggi
The Anatomical and Obstetrics Collection at the Museo di Palazzo Poggi in Bologna contains some of the world’s rarest and most beautiful 18th century anatomical waxworks, including work by masters of the craft such as Clemete Suisini, Ercole Lelli, Giovanni Manzolini and his wife and fellow anatomist, Anna Morandi.
Artist and sculptor Ercole Lelli was considered one of the finest anatomical artists of the late 18th century. His ecorches, or “flayed men,” used real skeletons covered in artistic wax representations of flesh.
Trained by Lelli, anatomist and professor Giovanni Manzolini later taught his wife Anna the art of life-like wax sculpting. After his death, she became a professor of anatomy in her own right and lectured in his place. An incredible wax self-portrait created by Anna is in the collection, along with many other educational models created by the couple.
Clemente Susini’s “Venerina” wax Anatomical Venus is considered to be one of his finest. The torso of reclining figure of a beautiful nude woman contains removable organs, allowing anatomists of the day to understand the inner workings of the human body.
Susini’s models, painstaking to produce and incredibly fragile, can be seen in only a few other locations throughout the world, including the Semmelweis Medical Museum in Budapest, La Specola Museum in Florence, the Josephinum in Vienna, and the Wax Anatomy Museum ot University of Cagliari.

Palazzo della Mercanzia, Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy, Europe
The Palace of the Merchants of Bologna, also said Loggia dei Mercanti or Carrobbio Palace, overlooking the square. Since the end of the fourteenth century to the end of the eighteenth was the seat of the Universitas mercatorum (Foro dei Mercanti) and some guilds. Starting from 1797, with the French occupation, became the seat of the Chamber of Commerce. The building was probably built in the completion of the buildings surrounding the hole of ancient Roman origin, formed spontaneously at the intersection of the ancient Via Emilia Rimini (Major street) and the ancient Via Salaria for Ravenna (Via San Vitale). After the Lombard conquest of the city (eighth century), was built, the area where in the fourteenth century will be erected the palace of the Merchandise, a village inhabited by a small community of Lombards whose streets are going to converge in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana forming a carrobbio, crossing, hence the term which is sometimes designated the palace. In 1382 the municipality of Bologna decided to give a home to the Forum and the Merchants, identified the site in the area where stood the Gabella, entrusts the design of the building by the architects Lorenzo Bagnomarino and Antonio di Vincenzo, the latter known for having designed the Basilica of San Petronio. Jobs are completed in 1391, the year in which the Court settles merchant. This institute was formed by a board composed of twelve consuls representing the companies of the arts and a judge, up to 1427 from other cities. Had the task of judging all matters and disputes within the merchant, to attend to maintenance and surveillance of Navile Canal, and to regulate the compilation of the books of traders and brokers. For appeals were addressed to a panel composed of a judge, elected from among the professors of the Studio, and four sopraconsoli, office held by the merchants. Every five years, were elected eight statutieri who had the task of supervising the full Court and could draw from scratch or modify the statute Universitas mercatorum. The judgments of the court and the meetings were publicly announced from the balcony of white marble in the center of the main facade, preceded by the tolling of the bell Lucardina, currently in the Medieval Museum of Bologna, which was probably placed next to the balcony. Those who were found guilty of fraudulent bankruptcy were tied to a pole, placed in front of the center column of the lodge, and exposed to public ridicule. The Palace of Merchandise shows a total stylistic eclecticism characterized by the presence of Lombard-Romanesque styles, found in the series of hanging arches that underlie the crests of the Compagnie des Arts, Gothic, which is as the balcony with canopy, and classic-naturalistic, as in the capitals decorated with floral elements. This stylistic heterogeneity is probably due to the contribution of artists from different schools who was commissioned to design the decorations and carvings. Starting from the bottom, the main facade of of the building has a loggia supported by pillars supporting the lancet vaults. Three niches containing statues of marble, the middle one represents justice, characterize the external facade at the top to the arches. Proceeding upward meet centrally grandstand canopy with a spire, flanked on both sides by two mullioned windows with spiral columns. In the upper part of the façade shows a frame, which encloses the already mentioned crests of Compagnie des Arts, surmounted by a series of high battlements. The lateral facades that give the one on Via Castiglione and the other on via Santo Stefano are equally embellished with niches, mullioned windows and ornamental motifs. The decoration of the building are decorated with statues of six saints of which four represent the protectors of the city (San Domenico, San Zama, San Floriano and San Petronio) and the other two St. Peter and St. Anthony of Padua. Special mention deserve the bezel decorated with inlay, surmounting the gateway and shows the coats of arms of the city of Bologna and the Bentivoglio family, and the clock place in 1889 over the portal arch reminiscent of that found in the fifteenth century to 'outside the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena. Until the early twentieth century the building coincided with the building in front of the square of the same name, built on two floors arranged differently than the current location.

Bologna is the lively, historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. Its Piazza Maggiore is a sprawling plaza lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures such as City Hall, the Fountain of Neptune and the Basilica di San Petronio. Among the city’s many medieval towers are the Two Towers, leaning Asinelli and Garisenda.
Bologna is the largest city (and the capital) of the Emilia-Romagna Region in Northern Italy. Bologna is the seventh most populous city in Italy, located in the heart of a metropolitan area. Bologna is home to numerous prestigious cultural, economic and political institutions as well as one of the most impressive trade fair districts in Europe. In 2000 it was declared European capital of culture and in 2006, a UNESCO city of music. The city of Bologna was selected to participate in the Universal Exposition of Shanghai 2010 together with 45 other cities from around the world. Bologna is also one of the wealthiest cities in Italy, often ranking as one of the top cities in terms of quality of life in the country: in 2011 it ranked 1st out of 107 Italian cities.
Bologna is situated on the edge of the Po Plain at the foot of the Apennine Mountains, at the meeting of the Reno and Savena river valleys. As Bologna's two main watercourses flow directly to the sea, the town lies outside of the drainage basin of the River Po. The Province of Bologna stretches from the western edge of the Po Plain on the border with Ferrara to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The centre of the town is 54 metres (177 ft) above sea level (while elevation within the municipality ranges from 29 metres (95 ft) in the suburb of Corticella to 300 metres (980 ft) in Sabbiuno and the Colle della Guardia). The Province of Bologna stretches from the Po Plain into the Apennines; the highest point in the province is the peak of Corno alle Scale (in Lizzano in Belvedere) at 1,945 metres (6,381 ft) above sea level.
