Places to see in ( Zaragoza - Spain ) Patio de la Infanta
With the name Patio de la Infanta , a Renaissance courtyard of 1550 is known inside the headquarters of Ibercaja , in San Ignacio de Loyola Street, 16, in Zaragoza . It is the inner courtyard of the palace residence of Gabriel Zaporta , an important merchant and banker of Jewish origin, borrower Carlos V . The name comes from the Infanta Maria Teresa de Vallabriga , wife of Luis de Borbón and Farnesio - brother of the king Carlos III -, that already widow returned to Saragossa to live from 1785 in the Palace of Zaporta.
The palace house of Gabriel Zaporta was between San Jorge, San Andrés streets and Zaporta alley. It had a garden in its rear area - facing San Jorge street to which it gave its façade -, and a patio wrought with great wealth. After several fires, the property was demolished in 1903 , but the cover was saved - a final gothic style with a viewpoint of conopial arches and eaves with canes of lobes as the Palace of the Torrero - and the patio, which were acquired by a French antiquarian in order to house his trade in Paris in this monument. In 1957 the Savings Bank Ibercaja bought the patio and in 1980 installed it inside its central headquarters, a modern building located in the squareBasilio Paraiso .
The Patio de la Infanta, with a typically Aragonese structure, two floors, and upper gallery supported by columns, is distinguished from others similar by the profuse decoration of its architectural elements.
The ground floor is built to lintel, while the main one houses a run gallery of semicircular arches supported by bulging columns. All columns, both inferior and superior, are ringed to two thirds, a traditional feature of the Aragonese renaissance column. In addition, both the supporting elements and all the rest, are decorated with reliefs. Thus, the columns are decorated with human figures as caryatids or estípites . It could be considered as one of the earliest examples of Mannerism , shortly after the beginning of the Italian renaissance in Aragon . Faucets , sweethearts , scenes from the series ofworks of Hercules (battle with the hydra of Lerna , robbery of the bulls of Geryon , fight with giant Anthem ), representation of the Three Graces , allegories of Cupid and Chance (on the Wheel of Fortune and taken by the one a strand that he has on his forehead, since once he passes the occasion he is bald in the occipital area and can not be taken by the hair), besides other allusions to illustrious lovers and figures related to the Eros , are part of his motley program iconography that makes one think of a temple dedicated to power and love.
This patio was directly visible from the street at the time of its construction, since there was no transition from the usual hallway, in a display of ostentation that showed to all passers-by the social status achieved by its owner. On the window sill, facing the street viewer, was the image of the Emperor, whose sword bears the inscription CAROLVS . There are also medallions with the portraits of Caesar Augustus , Trajan , Marcus Aurelius , Hadrian , Constantine , Justinian , Charlemagne , Philip the Bold , Francis I of France and Ferdinand the Catholic. To this gallery of emperors and illustrious kings is added the portrait of the own Gabriel Zaporta.
