Lastly, the story looks at how the Lao Government is working with the Japanese Government to boost the cultivation of mulberry and silk farming with establishment of a joint-venture research centre outside of Vientianne.

Clearly not an expert on the subject of weaving, but I had the opportunity today to learn something about these Laos traditions. I was translating on the fly from Laos to English. If anyone in the know has corrections on the terminology or steps I missed, feel free to post in the comments.
Weaver at Taykeo Textile Gallery
I shot a lot of video of weavers at Taykeo's when Bai's sister was working there as a weaver part-time while she was attending the university. Taykeo was the first Lao gallery chosen to represent Laos in the International Folk Art Festival in Santa Fe and Bai's sister was invited to come to the states as a visiting artist back in 2006. Unfortunately the final exams for each year are held in late June and early July and there was no way for Bouasai to skip out on the exams and so she wasn't able to come. Tayeko was chosen because of the outstanding quality of her textiles. The pattern being woven in this video is based on an antique sinh design and one that we describe as woven stained glass. They're incredibly difficult to weave and incorporate four different techniques of weaving.

VO The Wow Magazine Society is organising a second fashion week in Laos entitled ‘Wow Fashion Night Out 2015'
INTRO: After the success of Wow Fashion Week 2014, the Wow Magazine Society is organising a second fashion week in Laos entitled ‘Wow Fashion Night Out 2015' with the concept of ‘Summer night out colour battle'.
STORY: Fashion Night Out 2015 will take place at the Don Chan Palace hotel on March 6-7 to give a chance to Lao designers to showcase their skills in fashion design with their peers from Thailand and promote the fashion industries of the two countries.
A press conference to announce the event took place recently, a mini fashion show of collections from TYNA inspiration of silk, STRI Lao, Mimee Silk, Phaeng Mai Gallery and Chic &Trendy was put on at the press conference.
According to the Editor-in-Chief of Wow Magazine Society, this event aims to raise the profile of new Lao designers and help them to create fashion trends close to what is happening regionally and internationally.
Wow Magazine Society is available in Laos but sales are very limited as there are not that many retail outlets suitable here yet but membership of the society is available and anyone who joins can have the magazine delivered to their home or office.
The concept of fashion for summer takes its inspiration from the sea, wind, sun, waves and various sea creatures to make patterns and create a battle of colours. There would be at least 15 collections being shown for women and two for men.
