Veleta Summit (3 398m), Sierra Nevada in Spain
Filmed on the very summit of Veleta (3 398m) in the National park Sierra Nevada in Andalusia near Granada, Spain on 24 April 2009. Great experience, nice weather. We took it as preparation climb for the upcoming Jabal Toubkal climb in Marocco.
Veleta is the third highest peak of the Iberian peninsula and the second highest in the Sierra Nevada. Its height is given variously as 3,394 metres (11,140 ft), 3,396 metres (11,140 ft) and 3,398 metres (11,150 ft).
The mountain can be seen from the city of Granada. At Veleta's foot is the ski resort of Pradollano.

El ascenso lo hicimos campo a través sin ir por la carretera, desde la Hoya de la Mora y con la bajada corriendo salvo por auxiliar a algún compañero que nos íbamos encontrando con diversos problemas.
Las nubes bajas no son nubes, es humo del incendio que sigue actualmente en Almería, por lo que la playa en si no se puede ver todo lo nítida que quisiéramos.
Un Pico precioso, de fácil ascenso si lo hacéis por la carretera, algo más complicado por la altitud.

Pico Veleta - 'Highest Road in Europe' ES - T1957.33
Starting in the city of Granada and finally finishing up way above the clouds in the thin air at 3.384m – filmed in perfect weather in the autumn. Ride the highest climb in mainland Europe with the equivalent of two Hors Category climbs back to back. The difficulty is Very Hard.
Veleta (Weather vane) or Pico del Veleta is the third highest peak of the Iberian peninsula and the second highest in the Sierra Nevada.

Mountain Biking Sierra Nevada with Ride Southern Spain
6 epic days of Mtb exploring the peaks in Sierra Nevada. Ride Southern Spain hosted our holiday and left us with nothing but smiles.
Sierra Nevada is located in Southern Spain which has warm weather all year round. Mountain Biking in the area is gaining momentum and the local Mayer being a rider him self, is having new mountain bike trails built across these huge mountains.
The Trails are high alpine and offer some really long technical, fast riding. You can also find more mellow xc trails with aimed towards novice/intermediate riders. From casual scenic riding to your EWS style tech trails this place has a lot going for it!
Ride Southern Spain is owned by Andy and Juliette who have all the bases covered. Airport transfers,Food, Uplifts and Guiding have you want for nothing else! You can sip Sangria by the pool, Chill out at the local spa or go Mountain Biking, Road cycling or Rock climbing (all very close to the chalet)

Sus empinadas cimas, a la vez que dominan un inmenso horizonte, matizado de pueblos y de caseríos, con praderas llenas de verdura, están cubiertas de nieve y de hielos, que a la altura de 9.180 pies son perpetuos, a pesar del apacible clima del país pintoresco que las rodea (…). Granada, la bella Granada con sus jardines y sus ríos, y su vega riquísima de 12 leguas, aparece como recostada a los pies del enorme picacho de Veleta... (Madoz, 1849). Representa los sistemas naturales ligados a la media y alta montaña mediterránea.

Aanloop vanaf Granada (700 mtr) 45 km klimmen.
Tot 2500mtr. asfaltweg en de laatste 10 km.slechte kiezelweg met kuilen en gaten.
Ben 200mtr.onder de top gestopt, waaide met fiets en al ondersteboven,leek mij op 72 jarige leeftijd een verstandige beslissing maar een belevenis om nooit te vergeten.

24 racers launched themself of the starting gate and raced up the steep hill as part of the Enduro!

Sierra Nevada Spain
A Little flight simulator to visualize 3D terrain data of Sierra Nevada written in iForth using OpenGl. It uses a high resolution elevation grid (10x10m), that gives spectacular realistic views (if you like Green).
Flight starts at Granada, following the road to the top of Pico Veleta, and back following the river Genil.
For the cyclists/runners, walkers, that want to know exactly the mountains they will have to pass going from A to B (or C, or even back home).
