Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Place aux Oignons
The site Onion is an urban streetscape of the town of Lille in the French department of Nord . It is in the heart of one of the oldest neighborhoods of Lille at the foot of the old motte castrale (currently parvis Notre-Dame de la Treille ). The name of the place would be a deformation of dominium (dungeon in Latin) in dominion then onions.
This dungeon is the fortress of the Counts of Flanders on the castle mound near. There is no remnant of this wooden construction. The place would have been at the center of a primitive castrum of 2 ha , perhaps surrounded by a ditch and an embankment. This first enclosure left no vestige but the oldest trace of the medieval fortifications of Lille, the Ysembart Tower is located nearby, partly under the rue des Trois-Mollettes . This tower dates from the middle of the xiii th century. This first agglomeration would have preceded the foundation of the Collegiate Church Saint-Pierre in 1055
According to the historian Jean-Denis Clabaut, a road that would have passed southwest of the Motte-castrale and at or near the Place aux Onions would be the primitive north-south axis of the city in the extension of the rue de Paris and rue Grande-Chaussée. This axis was diverted on the other side of La Motte by the street Saint-Pierre present street of the Mint , following the foundation in 1055 of the Collegiate Church Saint-Pierre (on the site of the Place du Concert) and of the Palace of the Hall, residence of the Counts of Flanders (on the site of the current Palace of Justice) at the same time.
The square lined with houses dating from the late xvii th century and beginning of the xviii th century , relatively sober French architectural era that succeeded the Flemish architecture ornate was at the heart of a popular district in the nineteenth th century . Alexander Derousseaux that names the plachette in several songs evokes memories of youth.

Place the onions was included in the protected area of Lille defined in June 1967 but the need for its preservation was not unanimous on that date. The interest for this heritage and that of the neighboring street of Péterinck dates from 1974 with the discovery, on the advice of the Conservation of the buildings of France, tiles and gresseries , at a time when the houses were extremely dilapidated. Several of them were squatted. It was the poorest area of Old Lille. An unhealthy court , the court at Fiens , opened on the square.

Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Vieux Lille
Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Vieux Lille
The Old Lille is an area located north of Lille . It is the richest area in previous constructions in the xix th century. It still retains many paved streets and some traces of the canals that crisscrossed the city in past centuries. Until the First World War , the name of Vieux-Lille was attributed to all the part of the city prior to the 1858 enlargement, that is to say the part bordered on the west by the boulevard de la Liberty and to the south by the boulevard Louis XIV. During the First World War, around the Rue de Bethune, the train station and Molinel the street are destroyed, the Palais Rihour ( xviii th - xix th centuries) was burned.
The destroyed areas are reconstructed according to the fashion of the thirties, Art Deco around the rue du Molinel, neo-regionalist rue Faidherbe and rue de Bethune. In the 1960s and 1970s, the destruction of the popular district of Saint-Sauveur , makes the Old Lille the last testimony of the architecture of the city before the industrial revolution .
The north of the city center remains the only old part of Lille totally preserved. In fact, it escapes modernization and, as a result, is increasingly neglected by the most privileged inhabitants. It is probably from this period that the name of Vieux-Lille has shifted to this single perimeter. District of immigrants and families until the 1980s , trailing a bad reputation, he escaped a project of fast track in its center. On the contrary, it has been restored under the successive mandates of Pierre Mauroyand today has become a commercially very dynamic neighborhood. There are many bars, restaurants, and various shops, including luxury. Since its rehabilitation, the price of real estate has continued to increase, renewing almost its entire population and resulting in a rapid gentrification of the neighborhood.
If Lille has its origins in Old Lille, in the vicinity of the Notre-Dame de la Treille cathedral , most of what is called Vieux-Lille today is not the oldest of the city. A whole section of Vieux-Lille was built much later than the historic core: the roads north of rue du Pont-Neuf and rue Négrier date from the extension of 1670 decided by Vauban after joining the France of Louis XIV . They are characterized by their linear layout and their regular plan.
The streets, more flexible, located at the junction of Old Lille and the city center and around the cathedral are, however, among the oldest in Lille: rue de la Clef, rue de la Grande-Chaussée , Rue des Chats-Bossus, Place aux Onions , Rue Basse , etc. Most of the streets reflect the pace had Lille in the course of the xviii th century, when the architectural style of type Lille prospered and declined along rows of identical houses in the proportions and rhythms and different in the details of the decorations.

Tour de France en Trottinette - Lille
------------------- Tour de France en Trottinette électrique -----------------
Ville : Lille

Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Lille Streets
Places to see in ( Lille - France ) Lille Streets
The streets of the North may have created the famous Paris-Roubaix road race, but it’s something gentler that awaits you in ‘Le Vieux-Lille’. It is a great way to explore the streets, squares and alleyways which create the charm of the city today. Peddling against the wind, you pass an uninterrupted succession of magnificent 17th and 18th century façades and prestigious brands from ‘La Rue Grand Chaussée’ to ‘La Rue de la Monnaie’. Two stops are essential: one by ‘l'Huîtrière’ (a stunning Art Deco building), and the other by the‘Hospice Comtesse’. This is one of the most beautiful places in Lille. Go down past the weaver’s cottages in‘La rue Pétérinck’ until you reach the small ‘Place aux Oignons’ - which you will love. Visit ‘La Treille’. You will like the colourful houses with their wooden bridges.
You can explore all the small streets of the ‘La Treille’ district, such as ‘La Rue Doudin’, ‘La Rue Jean Jacques Rousseau’ and the narrow ‘Rue Coquerez’. Then cross ‘La Rue Royale’ with all its individual hotels to explore Sainte Catherine church square - a charming place. Traces of the old canal network are not far away. The water which flowed through the old town can still be seen in the architecture today and is remembered in evocative names. Take the magnificent, narrow ‘Rue de la Halloterie’ which is not that easy to spot. Follow ‘Rue de la Baignerie’ and turn into ‘Rue du Quai’. You will arrive in ‘Les Quais de Wault’. This is a place from another time that evokes an old Lille when barges would have moored here at your feet. One turn of the pedals and you arrive at the citadel.
The citadel is a perfect place for cycling. Cycle paths and tree-lined avenues make touring by bike very pleasant. There is no better way to explore the defences designed by Vaubin and to enjoy this beautiful, natural area. You will not disturb the herons beside the water, or the Soay sheep on top of the ramparts. And if two large horns appear over the tall grass - don’t worry. It’s only an impressive, but gentle, Irish bull naturally maintaining the green surroundings. This is a place not to be missed, where you can cycle beside the water along the shaded Mathias Delobel avenue. Go over Ory bridge and follow the ‘Le Bois’ path. You will come to the picturesque ‘Quai Géry Legrand’ with its moored barges.
Go down the ‘Bd de la Liberté’ admiring the ‘Place de la République’ and the Fine Arts Museum in passing. ‘La Porte’ and ‘Rue de Paris’ are at the end where all the unmissable landmarks in Lille are located (the belfry, ‘l'Hospice Gantois’, ‘La Noble Tour’.). The ‘Bd Jean Baptiste Lebas’ and its central park is nearby. Cycle along the ‘Wazemmes’ and ‘Moulins’ districts, which have kept their popular vibe, by following the boulevards ‘Victor Hugo’ and ‘Montebello’. There is so much evidence of the philanthropic city to explore - the last ‘courées’ (workers’ houses), markets, etc. Finally, on the last leg, the ‘Boulevard Vauban’ and the amazing Catholic University - a vision of Oxford or of Hogwarts - it’s up to you! Last stop, the beautiful ‘Jardin Vauban’ before returning to the citadel.

National Anthem of France- La Marseillas ( With Lyrics )
4-⍟
✠ La Marseillaise is the national anthem of France. The song was written in 1792 by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in Strasbourg after the declaration of war by France against Austria, and was originally titled Chant de guerre pour l'Armée du Rhin (War Song for the Army of the Rhine).
The French National Convention adopted it as the Republic's anthem in 1795. The song acquired its nickname after being sung in Paris by volunteers from Marseille marching to the capital. The song is the first example of the European march anthemic style. The anthem's evocative melody and lyrics have led to its widespread use as a song of revolution and its incorporation into many pieces of classical and popular music. ✠
Lyrics:
Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
Contre nous de la tyrannie
L'étendard sanglant est levé, (bis)
Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
Égorger vos fils, vos compagnes !
Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons !
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons !
Amour sacré de la Patrie,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Liberté, Liberté chérie,
Combats avec tes défenseurs ! (bis)
Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire
Accoure à tes mâles accents,
Que tes ennemis expirants
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire !
Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons !
Qu'un sang impur
Abreuve nos sillons !
Tremblez, tyrans et vous perfides
L'opprobre de tous les partis,
Tremblez ! vos projets parricides
Vont enfin recevoir leurs prix ! (bis)
Tout est soldat pour vous combattre,
S'ils tombent, nos jeunes héros,
La terre en produit de nouveaux,
Contre vous tout prêts à se battre !
Aux armes, citoyens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Marchons, marchons !
