Curtain up! Light the lights! Flat Rock Playhouse announced today plans for the second annual Theatre with the Stars! Due to the overwhelming success of the 2015 fundraiser, the State Theatre of North Carolina has decided to make this exciting afternoon of song, dance and theatre an annual event, whereby eight local “stars” will partner with Flat Rock Playhouse “pros” and compete with the hopes of raising the most votes to win the title as well as $1000 for their selected non-profit of choice.
The “stars” competing for Theatre with the Stars will be:

The star with the most donations combined with highest judges’ score wins $1000 for their selected charity. Online pre-voting will end midnight February 19th.
Those who wish to vote in person can cast their votes at the Playhouse Downtown on 125 South Main Street by making a donation under the celebrity’s name in the theatre lobby.

BHTV: The Asheville and Hendersonville Symphonies Offer High-Caliber Performances
Thank you for joining us for this episode of Beverly Hanks TV, helping you to Live the Life You Choose in Western North Carolina. Today, we are getting an inside look at the Asheville and Hendersonville Symphonies.

BHTV: Supporting Local Arts with HandMade In America:
In just a few hours, hundreds of people will fill this auditorium to hear the Asheville Symphony play Rachmaninoff's “Paganini Variations.” It really speaks volumes about Western North Carolina, that we have not just one, but two, full symphonies. Our region is known for its arts, and we recognize here the importance of music and how a symphony is an essential part of vibrant arts community. The Asheville Symphony is in its 53rd year and the Hendersonville Symphony is in its 41st. Both have a fantastic reputation across the state of North Carolina.
“Well, we really consider the Asheville Symphony to be a jewel of the arts scene in Asheville,” says Steven Hageman, executive director. “We've been here for over 50 years and have a very large audience who just love the symphony. Actually, many people have said that one of the reasons they moved to Asheville is because of the fact that we have such a world-class symphony.
“Daniel Myers, our conductor, he joined us about seven years ago,” says Hageman. “He had been the resident conductor at the Pittsburgh Symphony and he'd also been an assistant conductor at the Knoxville Symphony. So, we were very fortunate to get him. And over the past seven years that he's been conducting with us, he's been guest conductor at many other orchestras in this country and in Europe. So he's nationally and internationally recognized.
“We're very fortunate to have such wonderful musicians who actually moved to this area of Western North Carolina to live and be part of this beautiful artistic scene,” says Hageman. “Not only music, but art, and the natural beauty of western North Carolina.”
“I am from Suffern, New York, just outside New York City,” says Amy Lovinger, principal second violinist. “And I've lived in a few places before moving here, and I've always moved for school or for work. Then, this was the first opportunity that I had I didn't know where I was gonna live next and I just loved Asheville, North Carolina, and I wanted to live here. I have family here, as well, so that helped. And I had gone to the Brevard Music Center for a summer right when I finished graduate school. It was a really wonderful opportunity for me, I felt very lucky that I could just pick a place to live, just for the love of it, for the first time.”
“We are truly lucky to have orchestras of such high caliber in this size town,” says Kara Poorbaugh, principal violinist. “When I was in music school I thought I would need to live in New York City or something like that to be able to do what I do, and that is not true. Because Western North Carolina draws so many people who are interested in the arts, who are creative people, who are, you know, expressive.”
