Plaza del Obispo, Málaga Spain 2016.
The Plaza del Obispo is a tiny but lively plaza next to the Málaga Cathedral. The architecture is something that is worth examining. On one side of the square you can see the Archbishop’s Palace, which holds museum and art exhibition. On the other side of the square is the beautiful and stunning Cathedral. These two sides complement each other to show the cultural beauty of Málaga’s architectural ventures.

Plaza del Obispo, Málaga, Andalusia, Spain, Europe
The Plaza del Obispo, Málaga's Baroque location par excellence and one of the city's most important squares. In the square we find the Bishop's Palace, which was begun in 1762. In front we will find the main entrance of the Cathedral of Málaga, The Manquita, in which we can observe its impressive façade and marble stairs leading down to the level of the square, separated from the monument by a beautiful gate. The square is centred on a stone fountain, an anonymous 18th century work, built at the same time as the Palace, and which was used to supply water to nearby residents. This water was brought along another interesting feature: the Aqueduct of San Telmo.

Málaga’s cathedral was built between 1528-1782 on or near the site of a former mosque. Originally the plan was to allow for two towers but this failed to come into fruition due to lack of funds. As a result, the cathedral is now affectionately referred to as La Manquita, which loosely means “one armed lady”. The inner design of the place has a clear nod toward the Renaissance and baroque era of Art. Entrance to the Cathedral and accompanying Museum costs only 5 euros. The gardens within it are free to explore and contain a number of interesting items. It is one of our favourite attractions in the whole of Malaga and we advise you go and take a look!

Alcazaba, Málaga Spain 2016.
The Alcazaba, in the heart of Malaga’s historical district, is an impressive structure that was built between eleventh and fourteenth centuries and functioned as a fortress and palace. It has a very uneven floor plan, with all its living quarters at different levels in order to adapt to the terrain and converged within two walled compounds. Some of the most notable sights within the edifice are the Arch of Christ (which for years served as a chapel), the Patio de Armas (Parade Ground), which has now been turned into an Arabic-style garden, as well as the palace zone, known for its stunning caliphal arch work that opens into a hall.

Holy Week in Malaga, is an ancient tradition that dates back to the age of the Catholic Monarchs. The city of Malaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol and is located in Andalusia, the south of Spain, a land that perfectly combines modernity and tradition in the middle of the 21st Century. The most famous of these traditions is, undoubtedly, its well-known Holy Week of Malaga
Holy Week in Malaga, is very different to that celebrated in other Andalusians or Spanish places, and those who go to Malaga for the first time will be surprised, as the Passion Week there is not lived with meditation and silence, but it is full of happiness, noise, cheer, spontaneous saetas (flamenco verses sung at the processions) and applauses as the images pass by.
Some tronos (floats) of Holy Week of Malaga, are so huge that they must be housed in other places different form the churches, as they are taller than the entrance doors; real walking chapels of over 5,000 kilos swung by dozens of bearers. And also military parades playing processional marches or singing their anthems along the route. All this do not imply a lack of religiosity, but it is just the particular way that people from Malaga live their faith and feeling during the Holy Week.
