Hiking to Hidden Moonshine Still » Porters Creek Trail (Great Smoky Mountains)
Porters Creek Trail in Greenbrier in the Great Smoky Mountains National park is a 7.3 mile out and back hike that has tons of wildflowers, the Fern Branch Falls waterfall and a ton of history. There is the old John Messer barn and Smoky Mountain Hiking Club cabin, as well as remnants from an old car and part of a hidden moonshine still where Perry Shults once lived and mined for silver. Rumor is he had a hidden mine out past the campsite that's still to this day never been found. This trail ends at Campsite 31 and is a great overnight backcountry campsite.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Big Creek Trail Backpacking Camping Hiking
Backpacking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, first weekend of April 2018. We originally planned a two day camping trip but incoming storms & possible snow made another night of drinking moonshine in Gatlinburg a no-brainier. We stayed one night at campsite 37 Walnut Bottom with the intent of climbing Mount Sterling to get back to the fire tower at the top. GSMNP is an awesome National Park with about 900 miles of hiking trails within it's boundaries. Shot using iPhone 7 Plus with a BeastGrip Pro & BeastGrip Wide Angle lens.
Laurel Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains is Laurel Falls, access is easy, just 1.3 miles from the trailhead along a paved path and a light incline so anyone can enjoy this amazing place.
Laurel Falls is near the Sugarland Visitor Center, about four miles towards Townsend with plenty of parking and many people walking the trail. So for a great short hike, try Laurel Falls just 12 miles or so from Gatlingburg in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Hiking Meigs Creek Trail - The Sinks (Great Smoky Mountains)
In this video, I go day hiking with Angela on Meigs Creek trail (also where The Sinks is located) in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This trail is 3.5 miles one way with multiple creek crossings that you have to rock hop or ford. Due to the drought right now, we only had to rock hop and never got our feet wet. There is also Meigs Creek Cascades located about 1.8 miles in. We hiked to the junction with Meigs Mountain and Lumber Ridge trails where we took a break and had lunch. We were lucky enough to see a momma bear and her two cubs climbing down a tree on this hike as well as some walking horses who let us pet them. Although it was very hot and humid, it was a great hiking day. :)

Great Smoky Mountains Camping and Fishing
What an absolutely beautiful place! We spent a long weekend kayaking, fishing, and camping in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We kayaked all of our gear across Lake Fontana and stayed at a campsite on Hazel Creek. We fished from our kayaks and while wading as well. This is a place we will be sure to visit again!
