13th January 2019 - Day Trip to Protestors' Falls, The Channon Markets and Nimbin
Today, we're heading off to Protestors' Falls and The Channon Markets, about 1½ hours drive from the Gold Coast, and then back via the hippy village Nimbin with a visit to the world-famous Nimbin Candle factory.
Like yesterday's trip, a beautiful drive through the countryside, but today we've had to make it a short one because Myer had to work in her shop in the late afternoon as they were short on staff at the moment.

Next weekend, we're planning to stay local here on Saturday with some time by the beach, a bike ride, and a Sunday drive to Lismore to check out the Car Boot Markets which are on every 3rd Sunday of each month, at the Lismore Square shopping centre. These markets are HUGE and there's something for everyone, well worth a visit.

2WD is fine to get along the 15km of almost exclusively unsealed road from The Channon and then it is a approx. 700m from the parking area. Decent walking shoes are a plus due to the wet rocks along the path.
The Channon Market - Byron Bay Hinterland
Held on the second Sunday of the month, the market was originally set up to trade and barter goods between members of the community and its creation also provided a meeting place for like-minded people to explore current environmental issues. The Channon Craft Market has grown enormously in size and reputation during the last 35 years.
Coronation Park is an ideal location for the market, with thousands of visitors entering the village for the day. Tourist buses come, bringing people from interstate and from overseas to experience this must do event while on their Northern Rivers visit.
The Channon Craft Market brings investment and employment to The Channon village, Lismore and surrounding areas. It enables over 250 stallholders to trade each month in a wide variety of goods which include art, craft, second hand, children's activities, fresh produce and therapeutic goods and services.

I don't normal bother about videos of very short walks, but this was really nice, so thought I should share it. It's only 1.5km return trip! It leaves from the picnic ground that is about 40km from Taree via Wingham as the crow flys, but only accessible via mountain tracks, so probably closer to 50km. Really nice area.

Terania Creek Road - Protestors Falls
The road to Protestors Falls in Northern New South Wales carries hundreds of cars each day, and is now in such disrepair that it almost requires 4WD access.
Cars have no choice but to duck and weave across the road to avoid the giant holes in the road, and it is only a matter of time before there is a fatality.
Please call Lismore City Council on (02) 6625 0500 to lodge a complaint and encourage them to have Terania Creek Road sealed before a fatality occurs on the road.

Formerly known as Terania Park the property used to be a camping ground for many years.
