December 21, 2017 / VLOG NO. 102 – Is Savannah one of the best spots to travel to in the South? It may as well be! I've been coming here for many years now, and I always enjoy a visit here. Florence Martus (1868–1943), also known as the Waving Girl, took it upon herself to be the unofficial greeter of all ships that entered and left the Port of Savannah, Georgia, between 1887 and 1931. A few years after she began waving at passing sailors, she moved in with her brother, a light keeper, at his small white cottage about five miles up the river from Fort Pulaski. From her rustic home on Elba Island, a tiny piece of land in the Savannah River near the Atlantic Ocean, Martus would wave a handkerchief by day and a lantern by night. According to legend, not a ship was missed in her forty-four years on watch. A statue of Martus by the sculptor Felix de Weldon has been erected in Morrell Park on the historic riverfront of Savannah.

Savannah, Georgia - Johnson Square HD (2017)
Johnson Square was the first of Savannah's squares and remains the largest of the 24. It was named for Robert Johnson, colonial governor of South Carolina and a friend of General Oglethorpe. Interred in the square is Revolutionary War hero General Nathanael Greene, the namesake of nearby Greene Square. Greene died in 1786 and was buried in Savannah's Colonial Park Cemetery. His son, George Washington Greene, was buried beside him after drowning in the Savannah River in 1793. Following vandalism of the cemetery by occupying Union forces during the Civil War the location of Greene's burial was lost. After the remains were re-identified Greene and his son were moved to Johnson Square. An obelisk in the center of the square now serves as a memorial to Gen. Greene. The cornerstone of the monument was laid by the marquis de La Fayette in 1825. At that time the obelisk did not yet commemorate any specific individual or event. In fact, due to financial restrictions the unmarked obelisk served for several years as a joint monument to both Greene and Casimir Pulaski. Inscriptions honoring Greene were added in 1886, but the Greenes’ physical remains did not arrive until 1901, following their rediscovery.
Johnson Square contains two fountains, as well as a sundial dedicated to Colonel William Bull, the namesake of Savannah's Bull Street. Bull was a South Carolinian who assisted Oglethorpe with the establishment of Savannah and, as a surveyor, laid out the original street grid. The sundial has four panels, one on each side of its square granite base. The dial itself is bronze, set atop a marble shaft. One of the base panels reproduces a 1734 map of Savannah.
Another landmark of Johnson Square includes the Johnson Square Business Center. This building, formerly known as the Savannah Bank Building, was the city's first skyscraper, built in 1911. Johnson Square is known as the financial district, or banking square, and many of the City's financial services companies are located here. These companies include the Savannah Bancorp, Savannah Bank, Coastal Bank Headquarters, Bank of America branch, SunTrust branch, TitleMax Corporate Headquarters, and a Regions Bank building.
Johnson Square is located on Bull, between Bryan and Congress Streets.

1 . Colmar – France
Colmar is the third-largest commune of the Alsace region in north-eastern France. It is the seat of the prefecture of the Haut-Rhindepartment and the arrondissement of Colmar.
The town is situated along the Alsatian Wine Route and considers itself to be the capital of Alsatian wine. The city is renowned for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museums, among which is the Unterlinden Museum with the Isenheim Altarpiece.
2 Lake Retba, Senegal
Lake Retba or Lac Rose lies north of the Cap Vert peninsula of Senegal. It is named for its pink waters caused by Dunaliella salina algae and is known for its highsalt content, up to 40% in some areas. The lake gets its Lambrusco Blush tone from an algae that produces a red pigment to resist the water's high salinity level. When pigment and salt collide in sunlight, the water goes pink. It's at its pinkest in the dry season. Like the Dead Sea, it's so salty that you can float in it.

Wengen is a village in the Bernese Oberland in the canton of Bern, located in central Switzerland at an elevation of 1,274 m above sea level. Wengen is a dazzling ski town filled with traditional timber chalets and alpine views. Wengen hosts the internationally well-known Lauberhorn ski races, and it is on the route of the Jungfrau Marathon. Since 1930, the Lauberhorn ski races have been held in Wengen. The races traditionally consist of a downhill run, a slalom, and a combined event.
4 Guilin-Yangshuo

5 The Tunnel of Love, Klevan, Ukraine
Tunnel of Love is a beautiful long, leafy tunnel in Klevan, Ukraine. It looks like looks like a green dream or a scene from a film but it can actually be found deep in the forests of Ukraine. Located near the town of Kleven, this luscious green tunnel provides passage for a private train that deliver wood to a local factory. A three kilometer railway section leads to the fibreboard factory. The train goes three times a day and delivers wood to the factory. However, the trees make a green corridor, which attracts many couples, as well as photographers for its eye catching avenue. Walking Around Inside Old Fort Jackson in Savannah, Georgia
When the Union Army commanded by William T. Sherman captured Savannah by land on December 20, 1864, Confederate troops abandoned the fort and retreated across the Savannah River into South Carolina. Confederate troops from Savannah joined other forces in North Carolina and South Carolina and continued to fight until April 26, 1865, when they surrendered to General Sherman's army at Durham, North Carolina. Several different regiments garrisoned Fort Jackson during the Union occupation of Savannah. One of these units was the 55th Massachusetts Regiment, which consisted of African American troops.[3]
