Resident Brewing founder, James Langley - How to start a brewery
Jimmy Langley is the quintessential entrepreneur and true meaning of we started from the bottom, now we here. His story takes us from his first job out of college, to where he sits today, partner of a commercial real estate company, owner in nine restaurants, owner of several car washes, investor in multiple Starbucks properties and most recently, founder of Resident Brewing Company, the fastest growing Brewery in San Diego.
Listen as Jimmy goes through is step by step process and formula for selecting ideal restaurant and retail spaces around the 40min mark.
Cheers!

About the area: The West Valley is primarily suburban/residential in nature, although Cupertino is home to several high-tech companies, including Apple Computer, and Campbell, Los Gatos and Saratoga have significant downtown retail districts. Like the rest of Santa Clara Valley, the area was primarily agricultural through the 1950s and experienced explosive growth and development through the 1960s and 1970s. As part of Silicon Valley, the area is quite affluent, and Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, and Saratoga in particular have numerous million-dollar-plus homes and estates (Via Wikipidea).

MoVI M5 Camera Stabilizing Gimbal by Freefly Systems: Behind The Scenes American't Dream
Behind the scenes on American't Dream shooting with the MōVI M5 Camera Stabilizing Gimbal by Freefly Systems. The Film was produced for a 48 Hour Film Festival in Beautiful San Diego California. The Director Patrick Flaherty, decided to use the MōVI Gimbal for his Film, not only to utilize the amazing capabilities the MōVI Gimbal System offers, but to save time producing the film. I came on as the operator, and the film we made in 2 days, took on a very in your face 1st person look. Since the story was coming directly from the brain of the antagonist in the story, this turned out to be a perfect combination during the competition.
At least thats what I saw, but in 7 minutes, this short film messes with your head a little bit. Flaherty co-wrote this piece with Writer / Actor Tony Hoff, who gave this piece the finishing it needed.
Everyone has worked with someone that just rubs you the wrong way, and motivational speaker Mark Todd (Played By Criston Mitchel) nails that right on the head. Who could imagine the only thing keeping your overworked, white collared lifestyle together, being taken from you by the one person you despise the most?

The Casket Girls // True Love Kills the Fairy Tale // Album Trailer
The Casket Girls
True Love Kills the Fairy Tale
Out 2.11.14
So many pieces of Savannah, GA three-piece The Casket Girls seemed to happen by accident. From their beginning - when electronic sound-shaper Ryan Graveface (Graveface Records, Dreamend, Black Moth Super Rainbow) found sisters Phaedra and Elsa Greene under a tree in one of Savannah's many squares, playing Autoharp and singing bizarre songs - to the night they composed their sophomore album, True Love Kills the Fairy Tale, under circumstances that fall somewhere between séance and dream state, nearly everything about The Casket Girls seems to have been inspired by some kind of spooky happenstance. But then again, the Greene sisters don't believe in accidents.
I dropped off a shit ton of songs to the girls to work on one night, Graveface says of the genesis of True Love, the follow up to Casket Girls' critically acclaimed 2012 debut. I went back to check on their progress, because they weren't answering their phones. I don't know if they dropped acid or what, but I walked in and Elsa was sobbing and reciting poetry while Phaedra was just staring straight ahead writing it all down, like catatonic. The next day they dropped off a CD and said, 'We don't even know what's on this. You can throw it in the garbage if you want.' I sat down and listened all the way through and cried. I was like, 'Holy shit! They actually wrote a record like that!' I booked studio time and had them re-record every note just as it was on the demo. They really didn't remember any of it. Had to learn the songs as if someone else had written them entirely. Very bizarre.
Phaedra and Elsa had filled the disc with lilting, almost whimsical melodies about chemical hazes and love gone sour like a couple of fucked up Shangri-las, to which Graveface added a bevy of grinding, multi-dimensional psych-rock keys that will be familiar to anyone with a Graveface LP in their collection. The title track speaks like an unknown voice in a lucid dream - perhaps the one that conveyed these songs through the veil in the first place -beckoning, True love kills the fairy tale... until heart and lungs fail. It's this twisted and comforting charm, which set in motion the Graveface-Greene love affair in the first place, that relieves us from fear.
The Casket Girls have gained momentum and a substantial cult following due to the unflagging catchiness of their songwriting and the compelling development of their live stage show. They spent the last year and a half touring in support of BMSR and the Faint before growing into headliners in their own right. Last year, they released a self-titled EP on Record Store Day, and a cassingle cassette store day.
The trio will hit the road for a slew of US dates, followed by a sojourn through Europe. Visit casketgirls.org to for tour date developments, new-music nuggets and more.

White Fang & No Parents - Hey Grandma and Wrecked Mashup
White Fang & No Parents, two of the United States' most brash, hilarious, and ridiculously entertaining bands are hitting the road together this fall with support from Birth Defects. Highlights of the tour include two back-to-back shows at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on October 30th and again on the 31st where White Fang will be performing as AC/DC, and shortly after that in Austin for the Fun Fun Fun Festival Nights Prefestival.
White Fang is touring in support of their new album ‘Chunks’ which was produced by Bobby Harlow for Burger Records. The first single on the record –Bong Rip – features a video that was directed by Workaholics’ Kyle Newacheck, and was shot largely in the group’s Los Angeles lifestyle-boutique GnarBurger (a partnership between White Fang’s own label Gnar Tapes and Fullerton’s Burger Records). The full-time-freaks also have an affinity for directing their own videos, as evident in the bizarre video for the second singleWrecked. Most recently, the boys teamed up with horror film-maker Nesto to create the cinematic and psychedelic video Drugs I’ve Taken – which also features background music composed by White Fang’s guitarist Unkle Funkle as well as a chopped and screwed tune by the group’s sister-band The Memories.
Los Angeles’ No Parents have a handful of new releases from their 2015 LP ‘May The Thirst Be With You’ On Burger Records to their most recentpartnership with Altamont Apparel and Bionic Ear to produce a limited edition 7” single. No Parents were named Best Band 2015 by LA Weekly and it’s not hard to see why – in the short time they’ve been playing out, they’ve gained all the momentum of a hay-truck en route to the state fair, where – should we be so lucky – a show even half as entertaining as those boasted by these two hard-rock power-houses would blow the mind of any rock fan from wide-eyed youngsters to the most seasoned veterans of the national scene.
Cleverly dubbed the “Escape From LA” tour, this fall’s performances kick-off in Santa Cruz at the Catalyst Atrium on October 5th and after 29 shows brings the boys back to Los Angeles for what is certain to be a sold-out crowd at The Echo on November 11th.

CBS 8 Highlights Clean Up Event at Tijuana River Mouth by Surfrider Foundation and Cerveza Imperial
Cerveza Imperial, the world’s first water positive beer, and Surfrider Foundation hosted a clean up event Oct. 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the San Diego side of the Mexico border from the border wall to the estuary at the mouth of the Tijuana River. They also hosted a volunteer appreciation party for participants after the cleanup event from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. This project represents Cerveza Imperial’s investment to help fund and support efforts to restore and sustain San Diego’s clean water initiatives.
The clean up was originally scheduled to take place along the Tijuana River Valley in Goat Canyon and had to be moved due to dangerously high bacteria levels that were recently discovered through state parks’ soil sampling.
“The fact that the soil in Goat Canyon is too dirty to host a clean up in that area speaks volumes to how serious a problem this is,” said Scott Rideout, co-chair of Surfrider San Diego's No Border Sewage Committee. “Trash and sewage discharging into the ocean from the Tijuana River is one of Southern California’s most notorious environmental issues. This cleanup is particularly crucial considering that earlier this year, hundreds of millions of gallons of raw sewage were discharged into the Pacific Ocean via the Tijuana River. Since then, there have been 14 small-scale spills of raw sewage from Mexico, but there have been no emergency cleanup efforts despite ill residents and dead wildlife. Participants can make a positive difference by taking part in this cleanup.
In late August, through the auction of four Aaron Chang surfboards commissioned by Cerveza Imperial, $8,500 was raised for Surfrider Foundation’s project to clean the Tijuana River Valley and ocean at the California border. Previously, Cerveza Imperial provided funds for Surfrider Foundation to hire a part-time policy coordinator, Gabriella Torres, to work with officials on both sides of the border to help with policies and systems that will help clean the Tijuana River Valley. Imperial also partnered with Surfrider Foundation to host a dedicated beach clean up at Imperial Beach, where more than 100 volunteers collected 74 lbs. of trash and 9 lbs. of recycled trash in less than two hours.
“Cerveza Imperial is excited to be partnering with Surfrider Foundation,” said Erv Frederick, a representative from Cerveza Imperial. “We are both working toward an important goal: find better ways to use, protect, clean and preserve our water for everyone to enjoy. That’s why Imperial is the “First Water Positive” beer in the world giving back more water than we use in the making of this great beer.”
Already, Surfrider Foundation has distributed an action alert to all local representatives encouraging them to form a bipartisan coalition to come up with a plan to present to U.S. Congress to stop the U.S. Border pollution and is also supporting a lawsuit that is going to be filed by the City of Imperial Beach against the International Boundary and Water Commission. Torres is advocating before all local City Councils, working with the International Boundary and Water Commission to develop a more comprehensive water quality-monitoring program, attending bi-national meetings and workshops, speaking with stakeholders and environmentalists in Mexico, advocating in front of local state and federal agencies and liaising with local environmental groups and social grassroots organizations that have formed in Imperial Beach as a result of the February 2017 spill.

Made it to California! - Breaking Borders - Episode 16
Breaking Borders is a journey of two friends, Juha Juntunen (Finland) & Marc van Kan (the Netherlands), aiming to travel across United States without using a single penny. This trip will start on the 4th of March 2015 and hopefully will last until the 5th of May. We will start from New York and go via Florida to Los Angeles where we need to catch our flight back home.
We try to go across the country by walking, hitchhiking, freight hopping or any other possible way that will take us closer to your end destination.
To make this journey even more exciting for us, we made a rule that taking or even possessing money should be completely banned. If you decide to do something awesome, might as well do it in the coolest way possible, right?
The purpose of this journey is not about lecturing the meaning of money or some political matters. The aim is simply to inspire people to travel more and explore the endless horizons and possibilities.
Well of course we want to have some fun ourselves as well.
If you want to inspire others to go experience the world as much as we do, you can upload your travel videos on glorizon.com. It is made by travellers to travellers and of course using the website is completely free.
Enjoy!
Big thank you for making Breaking Borders possible belongs to:

Cheers, the Breaking Borders travellers Juha Juntunen and Marc van Kan.
