1 min| Roman Wall Ljubljana
Ljubljana used to be a roman city called Emona. Here are the remains of that city.
Ancient Rome Walls in Ajdovščina Slovenia
Ajdovščina has almost completely preserved Roman walls with fourteen towers. Around 270, the Romans started building a fortified military camp, which was included in the defence system of the eastern borders of the Roman Empire. For centuries, the Ajdovščina developed exclusively within it.
In year 394 a historic battle took place between the Roman emperor Theodosius and the rebel Gentile Eugenius, who also inspired many Roman poets. Theodosius' victory was fatefully decided by violent winds (probalby local wind named Burja) that diverted arrows and struck the opponent. In the summer of 2009, the Theodosius Society of Vrhpolje staged a battle as part of the great Roman spectacle in the Vipava Valley.

TIVOLI Park Ljubljana - SLOVENIA #1
Tivoli Park is Ljubljana's largest and most beautiful park, stretching right into the city centre. It was designed in 1813 by the French engineer Jean Blanchard and created by joining together the parks which had surrounded Podturn and Cekin Mansions. The park, covering an area of approximately five square kilometres, is crossed by three grand horse chestnut tree-lined walks and landscaped with ornamental flower beds, interesting trees and numerous statues and fountains. The park area blends into the slopes of the Rožnik hill, to which it is connected by several walking paths and a trim trail with several exercise stations along its length.

Emona 2000
Ljubljana praznuje 2000 let Emone
Dva tisoč let pred Ljubljano je tu stalo rimsko mesto Emona. Leto 2014, ko Ljubljana praznuje jubilej Emone, bo zaznamoval živahen program dogodkov in doživetij, ki bodo obujala vzdušje rimskih časov.

Ljubljana celebrates 2000 years of Emona
Two thousand years ago, the Roman city of Emona stood on the site of the present-day Ljubljana. In 2014, in celebration of the anniversary, Ljubljana will host a vibrant programme of events and experiences aimed at evoking the atmosphere of Roman times.
In 14 AD, the Roman colony of Emona (Colonia Iulia Aemona) unquestionably already stood on the site of the present-day city centre of Ljubljana. This is evidenced by an inscription about a donation that the city received from the emperors Augustus and Tiberius. Due to its geographical position, Emona played an important role in the Roman Empire’s system of defence and flourished from the 1st to the 5th century AD. It was built on a Roman model and was governed in accordance with Roman political and religious principles. It is believed to have been inhabited by around 5,000 colonists, whose occupations were agriculture, trade, and crafts.
