Roman walls of Zaragoza, Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain, Europe
In 15 B.C., when Emperor Cesar Augusta had won the Cantabrian wars, Zaragoza was founded although at the time it was named Colonia Caesaraugusta in honor of the Emperors victory. Yet it wasn't until the 1st and 2nd centuries AD that the city began to flourish with the construction of a typical Roman forum next to the river, which became the principal trading center of the region due to its excellent connections via the Rio Ebro. Parts of Zaragozas Roman forum are visible today underneath the modern day central square, the Plaza Pilar. Zaragozas Roman wall however, didn't come along until the 3rd century AD when the begining of the decline of the Roman empire turned the attentions of city govenors to defence rather than trade.

Chester's Roman Fort: Explore the 2000 year old Roman Fort on Hadrian's Wall
On the way to Scotland we had planned to stop somewhere along Hadrian's Wall. Mom really wanted to see it. I had heard that Housesteads Fort was the best place to go, but since we were coming from Barnard Castle we decided that Chester's Roman Fort was the better choice. Chester's Fort is only 1/4 mile West of Chollerford, in Northumberland, on B6318. This was the first of a few places we visited that had no direct connection to our family.
We went through the museum, which has a lot of interesting artifacts from the Roman period. A walk down a path from the back of the museum leads to the fort ruins.
Originally called Cilurnum, Chester's Fort was built ca. 124 AD, just after Hadrian's Wall. It's primary purpose was to guard the bridge across the River North Tyne. The fort replaced a turret, as forts were not part of the original design of Hadrian's Wall in 122. It straddled the wall with roughly half built North of the wall and the rest South. The fort housed a Cavalry Regiment of 500 soldiers called Augusta.
Around 178 AD the fort was occupied by the Second Asturians; a cavalry unit from Spain who remained at Chester's until the end of the Roman period. Much of the fort was rebuilt for the Asturians, and the visible barracks are from this time. During the period of 180 AD to 250 AD a settlement grew outside the fort walls. While there have been no excavations of the settlement, evidence from other forts suggest that it would have been abandoned by the end of the 3rd century due to the increase of civil wars and barbarian invasions.
Through the 4th century Chester's declined. Few inscriptions were made to record daily life or fort history. Soldiers were not paid cash as much as previously but instead received goods or services. Chester's would have been increasingly cut off from Rome, but it is not known whether the unit was removed or simply left to fend for themselves. There is no evidence of occupation of Chester's after the 5th century. Around 675 the bridge was dismantled to build the church at Hexham.
In 1796 the land was owned by Nathaniel Clayton. He had the fort leveled and buried to form a park between his mansion and the river. His son John inherited the place in 1832 and began excavation work at the fort. He also bought the land at Housesteads and began excavation work there. After John died in 1890 his nephew Nathaniel George Clayton continued work until 1895. He commissioned the museum in 1896, and it was finished in 1903.
In 1954 the fort, baths, and wall were placed in the care of the Ministry of Works, now English Heritage. As we had bought an English Heritage OVP we got in for free.

Zaragoza I Journey Thru History
Caesaraugusta is the only Roman city bearing the full name of its founder, Caesar Augustus. Its thought to have been founded in 14 BCE, perhaps 23rd December, coinciding with the 54th birthday of the Emperor. Caesaraugusta received the status of tribute-exempt colony of Roman citizens. During the 1st and 2nd century CE it experienced a period of splendour in which large public works were undertaken. The Roman City Walls, Theatre and River Port are just some of the remains from the Roman period still visible in Zaragoza where the former colony’s commercial, economic and cultural activities took place.

Places to see in ( Zaragoza - Spain ) Torreon de la Zuda
Places to see in ( Zaragoza - Spain ) Torreon de la Zuda
The tower of the Zuda of Saragossa is the tower that is in standing of the old palace of the Zuda , Azuda or Sudda, Muslim alcázar located inside the city in which the government was. Its present form is of the second half of century XVI . It is located at the western end of the Plaza del Pilar , behind the Fuente de la Hispanidad and next to the church of San Juan de los Panetes . After the archaeological excavation and the restoration finished in 2001, it shelters a municipal office of tourism.
The tower is in the middle of an area of great archaeological wealth, on the remains of the Roman walls of the city. The walls, more than 7 m thick at some points, with more than 120 towers - some more than 8 m in diameter - and of a length of 3 km, protected a virtually square city. The Zuda was in the northwest corner, next to the river Ebro .
From 714 to 1118 , Saragossa was a Muslim city named Saraqusta . Of privileged position and with a defensive wall famous in the Muslim world; was an important border town, having its own kingdom, taifa de Saraqusta .
The Muslims built close to the wall of the city the stronghold that served as a residence to the governor of the city and was later used by the Taifa king as a winter residence. The tower of La Zuda, corresponds to the tower of the homage of the palace that was built on one of the towers of the wall.
After the Christian takeover of the city in 1118 by the troops of Alfonso I the Battaler , symbolized by the capture of the keep, the building became the royal palace and seat of the kings of Aragon . It was until the thirteenth century , when the palace of the Aljafería was begun .
In 1180 King Alfonso II of Aragon donated the building to the Hospital Order of San Juan de Jerusalén , although maintaining as its own the southern part of the building, next to the old door of Toledo. From that moment it will become a hospital, known as Zuda del Hospital, where the gentlemen welcomed the poor and the sick. Hospitallers would also build a church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist that is not preserved.
From the fourteenth century , the building, which until then was the center of the order in the region of Zaragoza, will become the headquarters of Castellán de Amposta , the highest authority of the order in Aragon . The building also served sporadically to shelter the kings of Aragon, as is the case of Jaime I and his wife Dona Leonor , who were arrested here in 1224 after an uprising of the Aragonese nobles.
In the following centuries the building would undergo several modifications most of which are not documented. The current church of San Juan de los Panetes, built by order of the great Castellán Vicente de Oña , was completed in 1725 and replaced the old medieval church. The tower, which is slightly inclined, is from the 16th century .

Saltoki Sales Room and Warehouse, Zaragoza feat. Express Range and Catenary
Saltoki distribution centre is a huge warehouse placed in the city of Zaragoza. It's a big site where lots of Gripple hangers and catenary systems have been used for electrical, plumbing and lighting applications.
Cardiff Castle and Roman Walls
Archaeological excavations indicate that this was the first of four forts, each a different size, that occupied the present site. Remains of the Roman Wall confirms that the castle goes back to Roman times.

The Roman walls of Lugo were constructed in the 3rd century and are still largely intact today, stretching over 2 kilometers around the historic centre of Lugo in Galicia .The fortifications were inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in late 2000 as the finest example of late Roman fortifications in western Europe. The walls have also held Spanish monument status since 1921.In 2007, the walls were twinned with the Great Wall of China during a ceremony attended by China's then-ambassador to Spain, Qiu Xiaoqi.A walkway over the walls now allows visitors to stroll along the entire length.
