Polk Street Cruise 2013 Downtown Amarillo, Texas
AAM News Link:
Here are some video highlights from the 2013 Polk Street Cruise. It was hot, unseasonably humid, but a great turnout. No one I spoke to could recall a time that there were this many cars out on Polk Street. While the going is always slow at the start, this year it stayed at that pace until after 8 PM...a testament to how many cars were out. A lap was taking around 45 minutes.
A big thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the event.
AAM was accounting for 500 Miles of real estate thanks to folks coming in from Albuquerque and Oklahoma City.
We were able to tag pretty much every every Mopar on sight with Chryslers in the Canyon Flyers.
If you are one of the new folks we tagged, please feel free to join us not only at CIC, but also online on the forum. AAM is free to join and open to Mopars from all eras. We look forward to having you:

Historic Route 66 - Gallup - New Mexico | Drive America's Highways ????
???? Drive America's Highways for 10 miles west along the historic mother road in Gallup, New Mexico ????️
The video begins with us turning west onto Historic Route 66 from Interstate 40 exit 26 on the eastern edges of Gallup. Driving west on the mother road, paralleling the BNSF rail line to the north (the right of the video), we cross the intersection with NM-564, Boardman Dr, before making a quick pit stop at Walgreens.
Back on the road, we soon pass the historic El Rancho hotel before entering the central business district and the Rex Museum. After a few more intersections, including one with NM-602, we make our way out of town, passing the airport before turning left to merge back onto Interstate 40.

Route 66 has gained a reputation as the United States of America’s most famous road. How did that happen, and why does it still matter?
In this episode of Vox Almanac, Vox’s Phil Edwards explores the history of the road and the textures of its present, from the road itself to the roadside attractions along the way, to the people who enjoy its diversions and those who help maintain them. It reveals a road that’s changed a lot over the decades but remains vital in unexpected ways.
When Cyrus Avery helped found Route 66 in the 1920s, he strived to create a road that would connect the Midwest to the West, and he resorted to promotional tricks and wheeling and dealing to get it done. The road quickly became a key route for migrants escaping the dust bowl and depression, forming its early reputation as “the Mother Road.”
That’s because it’s a road that’s more than a strip of concrete (or gravel, or dirt). It’s a historical document of everyone who’s traveled on it — as the many contributions from Vox’s YouTube subscribers show, that keeps it going even as the interstates run alongside it.
The number of Route 66 resources out there is huge, but we found these particularly helpful.

If you’re curious about Route 66 preservation and revitalization, this group is one of the strongest interstate partnerships searching for new ways to promote and improve the road.
