Die Habsburg, in neuerer Zeit auch Schloss Habsburg genannt, ist eine Gipfelburg in der Schweiz. Sie liegt auf dem Gebiet der Gemeinde Habsburg im Kanton Aargau in einer Höhe von 505 m ü. M. auf dem lang gestreckten Hügelkamm des Wülpelsbergs. Bekannt ist sie als Stammburg der Herrscherdynastie der Habsburger, deren Aufstieg mit dem Erwerb von Gebieten in der näheren Umgebung begann. Gründer der Habsburg soll um 1020/30 Radbot gewesen sein. Otto II. war 1108 der erste des Geschlechts, der als Graf von Habsburg urkundlich nachweisbar ist.
Die Habsburger lebten hier lediglich rund zweihundert Jahre. Das immer mächtiger werdende Grafengeschlecht verliess die Burg um 1220/30, da sie zu klein und zu wenig repräsentativ erschien. Anschliessend wurde sie an verschiedene Dienstleute verliehen. Mit der Eroberung des Aargaus im Jahr 1415 durch die Eidgenossen ging den Habsburgern, die mittlerweile in Wien ein weit bedeutenderes Herrschaftszentrum aufgebaut hatten, ihre Stammburg endgültig verloren. Seit 1804 ist die Habsburg im Besitz des Kantons Aargau.
Im frühen 11. Jahrhundert entstanden die ersten Bauten. In mehreren Schritten wurde die Habsburg zu einer Doppelburg erweitert. Am Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts erreichte sie ihre grösste Ausdehnung. Nach dem Auszug der Habsburger verfiel der ältere, vordere Burgteil im Osten zu einer Ruine. Der jüngere, hintere Burgteil im Westen blieb bestehen und konnte sein Erscheinungsbild, von vereinzelten Umbauten abgesehen, bis heute bewahren. In den Jahren 1978/83 und 1994/95 fanden umfangreiche archäologische Untersuchungen statt. Die Habsburg steht seit 1948 unter kantonalem Denkmalschutz und gehört im Schweizerischen Inventar der Kulturgüter zu den Kulturgütern von nationaler Bedeutung. Der Palas wird seit 1979 als Restaurant genutzt, diesem ist ein Museum über die Burggeschichte angegliedert. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

The «Naturama», Aargau nature museum, is not your run-of-the-mill museum: animals, plants, exciting video films highlight the interaction and areas of conflict between nature and man in Aargau.
The Roggenhausen Wildlife Park has wild animals in their natural habitat as well as a Nature Trail. Cycling and walking trails alongside the River Aare and the Jura slopes provide the perfect opportunity for some pleasant physical exercise. But to see the people of Aargau really enjoying themselves you need to come to one of the local and historic traditional events, such as the «Maienzug» in July, the «Bachfischet» or «Rüeblimärt».
The Canton of Aargau boasts a great many castles, including some of Switzerland's most impressive such as the Lenzburg, the Hallwyl Water Castle and the Habsburg Castle - main residence of the famous dynasty from the the 10th century onwards. And Brugg, Baden and Zurich are a very short journey away. The Vindonissa Museum offers an opportunity to discover traces of the Romans and Windish is home to the biggest and best-preserved amphitheatre in Switzerland. And there are also a lot of historic towns, such as Bremgarten, Zofingen and others, to visit in the Canton of Aargau.

The House of Habsburg (/ˈhæbs.bɜrɡ/; German pronunciation: [ˈhaːps.bʊʁk]), also spelled Hapsburg, was one of the most important royal houses of Europe. The throne of the Holy Roman Empire was continuously occupied by the Habsburgs between 1438 and 1740. The house also produced kings of Bohemia, England, Germany, Hungary, Croatia, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain, as well as rulers of several Dutch and Italian countries.
The House takes its name from Habsburg Castle, a fortress built in the 1020s in present-day Switzerland by Count Radbot of Klettgau, who chose to name his fortress Habsburg. His grandson, Otto II, was the first to take the fortress name as his own, adding Count of Habsburg to his title. The House of Habsburg gathered dynastic momentum through the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries.
