This is the point at which Trams 7 & 9 emerge from the tunnel (originally built for an unconstructed Metro line) featuring left-hand running, and cross back over to the right-hand running used on Zurich’s streets. As Zurich trams are single-ended with doors on only one side, this switch over is necessary so that trams can stop on the correct side at the underground island platforms.

18.12.2018 - Einige nächliche Eindrücke aus Schwamendingen. Zwei Tram Linien bedienen diese Haltestelle Schwamendingerplatz bei Zürich Schwamendingen. Da es im Tramtunnel (Milchbuck–Schwamendingen) nur ein Perron gibt, kreuzen sich die Trams vor der Tunneleinfahrt.

Schwamendingen is a district in the Swiss city of Zurich. It is district number 12. The district comprises the quarters Schwamendingen Mitte, Saatlen and Hirzenbach.
The city of Zurich, a global center for banking and finance, lies at the north end of Lake Zurich in northern Switzerland. The picturesque lanes of the central Altstadt (Old Town), on either side of the Limmat River, reflect its pre-medieval history. Waterfront promenades like the Limmatquai follow the river toward the 17th-century Rathaus (town hall).
Gasträume 2019 – Public Art in Zurich, Switzerland
Since 2010, together with local galleries, institutions and artist-run spaces, the Work Group for Art in Public Spaces (AG KiöR) in Zürich (Switzerland) has been organizing an exhibition format that makes contemporary art visible in everyday life. Called “Gasträume”, the project provides space, selects the artworks and presents them in the urban space during the months of summer. It's a great way to experience contemporary art, but also the city's rapid urban development. This year, artworks are on display at 17 sites in the city center, Zürich West, Schwamendingen and Altstetten.

Trams make an important contribution to public transport in the city of Zürich in Switzerland. The tram network serves most city neighbourhoods, and is the backbone of public transport within the city, albeit supplemented by the inner sections of the Zürich S-Bahn, along with urban trolleybus and bus routes as well as two funicular railways and one rack railway. The trams and other city transport modes operate within a fare regime provided by the cantonal public transport authority Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), which also covers regional rail and bus services.

Das Video zeigt den gesamten Baustellenperimeter des Projekts «Ausbau Nordumfahrung Zürich (ANU)» aus der Luft und aus der Perspektive der Verkehrsteilnehmenden.
Bis im Jahr 2025 baut das Bundesamt für Strassen ASTRA auf der A1 die Nordumfahrung Zürich in beiden Richtungen auf mindestens je drei Fahrstreifen aus. Kernstück dieses Ausbaus ist der Bau der dritten Röhre des Gubristtunnels.
Im Juni 2016 erfolgte der Start der Hauptarbeiten. Mittlerweile sind die Arbeiten gut vorangeschritten. Das Video zeigt den gesamten Baustellenperimeter aus der Luft und aus der Perspektive der Verkehrsteilnehmenden (Stand Oktober 2018).

1. The canton of Zürich is a Swiss canton in the northeastern part of the country. With a population of 1,520,968 (as of 31 December 2018), it is the most populated canton in the country.
2. Permanently settled for over 2,000 years, Zürich was founded by the Romans, who, in 15 BC, called it Turicum. Roman rule ended around 400 AD and nobody really has any idea what went on in Zurich for the next few centuries. The territory of the canton of Zürich corresponds to the lands acquired by the city of Zürich after it became reichsfrei in 1218.
3. With the city’s population topping 400,000 inhabitants and 1.3 million people within the canton, Zurich is the urban hub of Switzerland. The country’s economic and cultural hub and one of Europe’s main financial and industrial capitals, it’s easy to forget that it’s also a delightful and fascinating place for tourists. Its many attractions include dozens of museums, a well-preserved old town filled with medieval and Renaissance buildings, and enough art – both in and out of museums – to keep art-lovers happy for a week. The old town encompasses the area of the entire historical city before 1893. It is a neighborhood filled with historic charm, its narrow streets rising steeply on the east side of the river.
4. Because Zurich is the Swiss financial capital, many assume it also holds the highest rank in politics. However, the central city of Bern became the official unofficial federal capital in 1848, when Switzerland became the country we know today.
5. The first accidental bombing happened in 1944 when the USAAF was attempting to bomb Ludwigshafen am Rhein (in Germany) but instead targeted Schaffhausen. As you can imagine this caused considerable diplomatic distress since Switzerland was a neutral country during WWII. Investigations cited weather conditions and navigation errors as the causes for the bombing and the city was compensated four million dollars for the various damages. Yet, only one year later the USAAF bombed Zurich again thinking that they were hitting Aschaffenburg, Germany.
6. It has a museum dedicated to nothing. It’s called the No Show Museum and its purpose is to show how ‘nothing’ has manifested through art over time. The concept may not be the easiest to wrap your mind around but it is certainly intriguing.
7. Zürich was the focus of the Swiss Reformation led by Huldrych Zwingli. The Reformation in Zürich was promoted initially by Huldrych Zwingli, who gained the support of the magistrates of the city of Zürich and the princess abbess Katharina von Zimmern of the Fraumünster Abbey, and the population of the city of Zürich and agriculture-oriented population of the present Canton of Zürich in the early 1520s. It led to significant changes in civil life and state matters in Zürich and spread to several other cantons of the Old Swiss Confederacy, and thus initiated the Reformation in Switzerland.

By the lake, on the hillside, fashionable, multicultural, or in the heart of the Old Town: these are Zurich’s urban districts.
Zurich has a total of 12 districts, known as “Kreis” in German. Each comprises between one and four quarters or neighborhoods, making 34 in all. Below you can find out more about how the districts differ from one another and what is particularly characteristic of each one.
District 1.
Old Town, City Center.
The most central district encompasses the historical Old Town on both banks of the River Limmat, as well as the area to the south bordering on the lake basin. It is home to the prestigious Bahnhofstrasse, magnificent guild houses, imposing churches, and the famous Opera House. The best view of District 1 is to be had from the top of the Karlsturm tower.
District 2.
Left Shore of the Lake.
The architecturally attractive Enge Train Station built out of Ticino granite, the Museum Rietberg with its beautiful park, the Seebad Enge lido, and the Rote Fabrik give this district a Mediterranean feel.
District 3.
Creative Quarter of Wiedikon.
Once mainly a working-class neighborhood, the district below the Uetliberg is now a popular residential area with cozy cafés, boutiques, and vintage stores. The Houdini movie theater also lies on Wiedikon territory.
District 4.
Creative Quarter of Langstrasse.
The district around Langstrasse was long regarded as a den of iniquity. Nowadays, it is known for its diverse restaurants and never-sleeping nightlife, with bars such as the Olé and the Club Zukunft.
District 5.
Creative Quarter of Zürich-West.
In the quarter where huge machines once clattered away, now nightclubs, cultural institutions, and universities cluster around the Prime Tower. Converted structures such as the Viadukt and designer stores like the Freitag Tower give the neighborhood its characteristic trendy atmosphere.
District 6.
University Quarter.
University buildings, Jugendstil villas, green areas, and the Dynamo cultural center characterize Zurich’s District 6. Thanks to its tranquility and closeness to the city center, it is a much sought-after residential area.
District 7.
On the Zürichberg.
The hillside location, little traffic, and fabulous views mean than living here does not come cheap. Neighbors include Zurich Zoo and the luxury hotel, The Dolder Grand.
District 8.
Right Shore of the Lake.
This district starts behind the Opera House and stretches as far as the open-air bathing facility, Seebad Tiefenbrunnen. It features boutiques, villas, the Chinawiese recreational area, and the Seebad Utoquai outdoor swimming bath.
District 9.
At the Foot of the Uetliberg.
For a long time, this district was solely known for the Letzigrund Stadium. In recent years, however, the quarter around Altstetten has become THE place to be, with creative club and gastronomy concepts.
District 10.
Right of the Limmat.
This district boasts a fantastic location: in summer, everyone meets at the Unterer Letten and Oberer Letten riverside lidos to swim and bask in the sun. In addition, the view over Zurich from the Waid quarter is unbeatable.
District 11.
Zürich Nord.
The close vicinity to the airport, the Hallenstadion indoor stadium where sports and music events are held, and the MFO-Park are the highlights of the Zurich’s northernmost district, which also offers plenty of space for public works of art.
District 12.
Schwamendingen.
Schwamendingen, with its many green areas, lies in the north-east of Zurich. This district, which was not incorporated into the City of Zurich until 1934, has retained much of its village character. Its closeness to the Zürichberg makes it particularly popular among walkers, joggers, and children.

Linksverkehr am Schwamendingerplatz in Zürich
Im U-Bahn Tunnel der Linien 7 und 9 zwischen Milchbuck und Schwamendingerplatz wird im Linksverkehr gefahren, so dass nur ein Mittelbahnsteig pro Station gebaut werden musste, man aber keine Fahrzeuge mit Türen auf der linken Seite brauchte. Hier am Schwamendingerplatz wird die Seite gewechselt.

Die Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon (MFO) war ein schweizerisches Unternehmen, das 1876 von Peter Emil Huber-Werdmüller mit Sitz in Oerlikon (ab 1934 Teil der Stadt Zürich) gegründet wurde. Die MFO stellte vor allem Werkzeuge, Maschinen, Waffen sowie Elektrolokomotiven her, so auch das legendäre „Krokodil“.
Im Laufe der Zeit gingen aus den drei Produktbereichen der MFO so bedeutende Unternehmen hervor wie OC Oerlikon, Brown, Boveri & Cie. (Übernahme der MFO 1967) / ABB und Adtranz.

Die Tramstation Bellevue ist mit 250'000 Umsteigern pro Tag und sieben vorbeiführenden Linien einer der wichtigsten Knoten im Zürcher Tramnetz. Zusätzlich verkehren vom Bellevue aus zwei regionale Buslinien der Autobusbetriebe Zürich – Zollikon – Küsnacht (AZZK) sowie an Wochenenden alle städtischen Buslinien des Nachtnetzes. Der S-Bahnhof Stadelhofen liegt nur wenige Schritte entfernt. Mit 150'000 Benutzern stellt er ebenfalls einen wichtigen Verkehrsknoten dar. (Wikipedia)
