Paradise Creek Falls and the DEADLY Kaweah River of Sequoia National Park
Paradise Creek and the Kaweah River are two very different waterways in Sequoia National Park. Several people have recently drown in the fast moving Kaweah, while the nearby Paradise Creek lives up to its name with a tranquil setting and crystal clear water. Our first stop after leaving Los Angeles to travel the world was Sequoia National Park. Despite being known for the gigantic Sequoia Trees, the park has plenty of other amazing things to do, including some pristine swimming holes, cliff jumps, caves and beautiful waterfalls.

Sequoia National Park is a national park in the southern Sierra Nevada east of Visalia, California, in the United States. It was established on September 25, 1890. The park spans 404,064 acres (631.35 sq mi; 163,518.90 ha; 1,635.19 km2).[1] Encompassing a vertical relief of nearly 13,000 feet (4,000 m), the park contains among its natural resources the highest point in the contiguous 48 United States, Mount Whitney, at 14,505 feet (4,421 m) above sea level. The park is south of and contiguous with Kings Canyon National Park; the two are administered by the National Park Service together as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

Sequoia National Park Trip 2015
Our base camp was in Three Rivers Ca at Sequoia Ranch RV Park - The weather was very warm mid to upper 90's however the RV park is nestled in a canyon with lots of large trees that provided alot of shade also the river that runs along the outer perimeter of the campground was great place to keep cool- The water level was higher than expected considering this years drought.
Generals Highway Northbound - Sequoia National Park, Sequoia NF, Kings Canyon National Park
Traveling over the whole Generals Highway, crossing Sequoia National Park, Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park. The video shows Generals Highway northbound - from the Ash Mountain entrance to Sequoia National Park to the Big Stump entrance (exit) to Kings Canyon National Park.
Generals Highway - this is its proper spelling - is a 52.3-kilometer (32.5-mile) Californian highway connecting Highway 198 and Highway 180. It is one of the most scenic roads in the United States - and, in my opinion, in the world. Generals Highway crosses the Sequoia National Park, the Giant Sequoia National Monument section of the Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park.

Kings Canyon Sequoia National Park Revealed
Kings Canyon and Seqouia National Park - California, USA
Kings Canyon National Park is a national park in the southern Sierra Nevada, in Fresno and Tulare Counties, California in the United States. Originally established in 1890 as General Grant National Park, it was greatly expanded and renamed to Kings Canyon National Park on March 4, 1940. Its namesake, Kings Canyon, is a rugged glacier-carved valley more than a mile deep; the park also includes multiple 14,000-foot peaks, high mountain meadows, swift-flowing rivers, and some of the world's largest stands of giant sequoia trees. Kings Canyon is north of and contiguous with Sequoia National Park, and the two are jointly administered by the National Park Service as the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
The majority of the 461,901-acre park, drained by the Middle and South Forks of the Kings River and many smaller streams, is designated wilderness. Tourist facilities are concentrated in two areas: Grant Grove, home to General Grant (the second largest tree in the world, measured by trunk volume) and Cedar Grove/Kanawyers, located in the heart of Kings Canyon. Overnight travel is required to access most of the park's backcountry, or high country, which for much of the year is covered in deep snow. The combined Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail, a popular backpacking route, traverses the entire length of the park from north to south.
General Grant National Park was initially created to protect a small area of giant sequoias from logging. Although John Muir's visits brought public attention to the huge wilderness area to the east, it took more than fifty years for the rest of Kings Canyon to be designated a national park. Environmental groups, park visitors and many local politicians wanted to see the area preserved; however, development interests wanted to build hydroelectric dams in the canyon. Even after President Franklin D. Roosevelt expanded the park in 1940, the fight continued until 1965, when the Cedar Grove and Tehipite Valley dam sites were finally annexed into the park.
As visitation rose post-World War II, further debate took place over whether the park should be developed as a tourist resort, or retained as a more natural environment restricted to simpler recreation such as hiking and camping. Ultimately, the preservation lobby prevailed and today, the park has only limited services and lodgings despite its size. Due to this and the lack of road access to most of the park, Kings Canyon remains the least visited of the major Sierra parks, with just over 600,000 visitors in 2016 compared to 1.2 million visitors at Sequoia and over 5 million at Yosemite.
Seqouia National Park is famous for its giant sequoia trees, including the General Sherman tree, the largest tree on Earth. The General Sherman tree grows in the Giant Forest, which contains five out of the ten largest trees in the world. The Giant Forest is connected by the Generals Highway to Kings Canyon National Park's General Grant Grove, home to the General Grant tree among other giant sequoias. The park's giant sequoia forests are part of 202,430 acres of old-growth forests shared by Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Indeed, the parks preserve a landscape that still resembles the southern Sierra Nevada before Euro-American settlement.

Atwell Mill Campground in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park is a tent only campground located along Mineral King Road in a remote part of the park. Open during summer months only this is one of the highest elevation campsites in the National Park. 21 sites available on a first come first served basis situated along the East Fork of the Kaweah River in a once logged sequoia grove. Potable water is available and pit toilets.
The long winding and slow going drive to the campground takes guests up and out of Three Rivers CA climbing along a very scenic mountain road. The majority of the drive is in a low shrub area with majestic views of the mountains and valleys around. As campers near Atwell the road starts to dart in and out of second growth Sequoia stands. The campground is on the right hand side of the road as the roadway enters the main group of trees.
All dirt roads and parking pads the best sites are 11-17. The NPS declares this a tent only campground but truck and van campers can easily utilize the sites (other RV types are not advised). Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is built along a hillside and there is some elevation difference between sites and along the roads.
Hiking trails depart this area. Silver City is a small vacation home town under 2 miles up the road from Atwell Mill Campground; guests can find food and showers at the small store.

Sequoia National Park: Kaweah River (HD)
Filmed and edited by Sheety33 during June of 2011.
The Kaweah River in the U.S. state of California flows 32 miles (51 km) westward from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada into the Central Valley. It rises in forks in the southern Sierra Nevada inside Sequoia National Park, the longest of which is the Middle Fork, about 18 miles (29 km) long. Once it exits the 8,000-foot (2,400 m)-deep canyons that make up its headwaters, the river flows into a reservoir called Lake Kaweah, where most of its water is stored for irrigation and flood control. Formerly the river continued southwest to empty into Tulare Lake, the terminal sink of an endorheic basin also including the Tule and Kern Rivers as well as southern distributaries of the Kings. Agricultural development and diversion for irrigation have left most of the Kaweah's lower course dry, as is Tulare Lake.
Snowmelt from the high Sierra Nevada, along the 13,000-foot (4,000 m)-high Great Western Divide, feeds the Kaweah River, which reaches enormous peak flows in the spring and early summer and shrinks to a trickle by late autumn. The river's average flow is around 550 cubic feet per second (16 m3/s), but ranges anywhere from 7,500 cubic feet per second (210 m3/s) to 40 cubic feet per second (1.1 m3/s) in the average year. The snowmelt-season flow is about 2,000 cubic feet per second (57 m3/s) and the summer flow is around 700 cubic feet per second (20 m3/s).
The site of Lake Kaweah, in a broad, arid valley in the foothills, was once inhabited by the Yokut people, who had permanent villages along the river but traveled into the headwaters area in summer. The name Kaweah is thought to mean crow or raven cry in the Yokut language. Eventually, people from the Mono Lake basin began migrating over the Sierra Nevada, settling in the high valleys of the Kaweah's forks. Mineral King on the East Fork of the river was the subject of a silver boom in the 1870s, which soon faded. The majority of the Kaweah drainage basin above the Central Valley became part of Sequoia National Park in 1890, and a road was constructed along parts of the Middle Fork and the Marble Fork. The southeasternmost part of the river's watershed also became part of the park in the 1970s, after a failed proposal to build a massive ski resort, and the Kaweah River is now a popular destination for hiking, fishing and whitewater rafting.
Unknown Sequoia National Park
As seen on Travel Channel. Sequoia is such a well-kept secret, that they call it The Hidden Park. When you come, you might not believe how tall these are. There's a drive-thru tree that you can drive through just because you can. And while you're at the national park, check out the 1500 plant species. Also check out the secret cave system, right below its trees - Crystal Cave.
