History of Sheopur Fort
Sheopur is a city in Madhya Pradesh state of central India. It is the administrative headquarters of Sheopur District. Sheopur is linked by narrow gauge rail to Gwalior. The town is traditionally famous for its wood carving. This is the western most town of Madhya Pradesh, Chambal River is just 25 km, which forms the boundary between Rajasthanand MP states.[1][citation needed]
Sheopur can be reached via train and buses from Gwalior which is 240 km and via buses from Sawai Madhopur andKota which are 60 km and 110 km from Sheopur.Sheopur is located at northern part of Madhya Pradesh. Some of the main locations are Vijaipur, Karahal and Badoda. Major tourist attraction is Palpur (kuno) wildlife sanctuary. The well-known Kaketa reservoir is located in this district. The art of woodcarving has flourished in district Sheopur and the beautifully embellished wooden ceilings, doors and lintels with finely carved designs are silent testimonials of its glory. The wood carvers of Sheopur, with great sensitivity and skill transform different varieties of wood. The crafts persons of Sheopur make pipes, masks, toys, doors, stands, windows, wooden memorials, flower vases, bedposts and cradle posts etc.
The important rivers like Chambal, Seep and Kuno drain the district. The Chambal, which originates in the Indore district, forms the northwestern boundary of Madhya Pradesh with Rajasthan.

श्योपुर जिला भारत के मध्य प्रदेश के 52 जिलों में से एक है और श्योपुर शहर ही इस जिले का मुख्यालय है। यह चंबल डिवीज़न का हिस्सा है। 2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार जिले की जनसंख्या 6 ,87,952 थी। श्योपुर जिला 6,606 वर्ग किमी के क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है। यह हरदा और उमरिया के बाद मध्य प्रदेश का तीसरा सबसे कम आबादी वाला जिला है। श्योपुर जिले को 1998 में मुरैना जिले से अलग कर एक नया जिला बनाया गया था। जिले में तीन उप-मंडल शामिल हैं: श्योपुर, विजयपुर और कराहल। श्योपुर उपमंडल में दो तहसील शामिल हैं: श्योपुर और बड़ौदा। विजयपुर उप-मंडल में दो तहसील शामिल हैं: विजयपुर और वीरपुर। कराहल उप-मंडल में कराहल अकेली तहसील है। इस जिले में दो नगर पालिका हैं: श्योपुर और बड़ौदा और एक नगर पंचायत, विजयपुर है। इस जिले में दो विधानसभा क्षेत्र हैं, अर्थात् श्योपुर और विजयपुर। ये दोनों मुरैना लोकसभा क्षेत्र का हिस्सा हैं।
श्योपुर जिले में हर 1,000 पुरुषों पर 902 महिलाओं का लिंग अनुपात है, और साक्षरता दर 58% है। श्योपुर जिला अपनी लकड़ी की नक्काशी के लिए देश भर में प्रसिद्ध है। चंबल नदी जिले से होकर गुजरती है और यह जो राजस्थान और मध्य प्रदेश राज्यों की सीमा को भी अलग बनाती है।
कुनो वाइल्डलाइफ सैंक्चुअरी जिले का सबसे प्रमुख पर्यटक स्थल है। प्रसिद्ध ककेटा जलाशय भी इसी जिले में स्थित है। श्योपुर फोर्ट , दोआब कुंड, राम-जानकी मंदिर, रामेश्वर का संगम, विजईपुर दुर्ग, रेलवे स्टेशन गुरुद्वारा, ध्रुव कुंड , देवरी हनुमान मंदिर जिले के कुछ रूचि के स्थान हैं।

श्योपुर कलां रेलवे स्टेशन जिले का प्रमुख रेलवे स्टेशन है।
सड़क मार्ग द्वारा श्योपुर ग्वालियर, मुरैना, सवाई माधोपुर, शिवपुरी, बारां, कोटा और भोपाल के साथ नियमित बस सेवाओं द्वारा जुड़ा हुआ है।
