島津製作所　創業記念資料館　－ SHIMADZU FOUNDATION MEMORIAL HALL －

炎天下の8月10日、京都市内にある『島津製作所　創業記念資料館』に行ってきました。
地下鉄の「京都市役所前」から近くだったので助かりました。
古い機械モノが好きなので、とても楽しかったです。
最初に映像を見させられるのですが、島津製作所の創業から発展への過程がとても分かりやすくてよかったです。
動画には時間の関係で取り上げませんでしたが、「事業の邪魔になる人」、「家庭を滅ぼす人」のそれぞれ十五か条の教えが素晴らしいですよ～。

140th Anniversary Shimadzu

Shimadzu Corporation was founded in Kyoto in 1875, during Japan's period of modernization. It began with Genzo Shimadzu Sr., the second son of a Buddhist altar craftsman, manufacturing physics and chemistry instruments.
Later, Shimadzu Corporation grew significantly under the leadership of Genzo's eldest son, Genzo Jr., who showed a rare talent as a remarkable inventor.
In this way, Shimadzu progressed hand-in-hand with science, building itself into a leader in technology.
This culture of Contributing to Society through Science and Technology has been inherited by each new generation of employees at Shimadzu Corporation and now is being expanded globally through the growth of the Shimadzu Group, which continues to be rooted in science and committed to Shimadzu's management principle Realizing Our Wishes for the Well-being of both Mankind and the Earth.

島津製作所の質量分析技術50周年の歩み

質量分析装置は、今や様々な分野の先端を切り拓くために重要なツールのひとつになりました。1970年に当社初の質量分析装置が誕生してから今年で50周年。展開してきた製品は多岐にわたります。

初号機「LKB-9000」は、世界初の量産型ガスクロマトグラフ質量分析計です。この技術を発展させて1982年に発売した日本初の汎用四重極型モデル「GCMS-QP1000」は国内での普及に貢献。

その6年後には世界初のマトリックス支援レーザー脱離イオン化飛行時間型質量分析計「LAMS-50K」を発表するなど、技術を積み重ねてきました。

2002年には、現シニアフェローの田中耕一がソフトレーザー脱離イオン化法の功績でノーベル化学賞を受賞。

2010年に投入した国産初のトリプル四重極型液体クロマトグラフ質量分析計「LCMS-8030」や、2012年の国産初トリプル四重極型ガスクロマトグラフ質量分析計「GCMS-TQ8030」は、当社にとっても非常に大きな一歩となりました。

2018年には、四重極飛行時間型質量分析計市場に参入し、国内メーカー初の装置「LCMS-9030」の展開を開始しました。

質量分析は、疾患の早期診断や再生医療の分野などでも注目が集まる技術です。当社は今後も情熱を注ぎ、“オンリーワン”技術の開発を加速させていきます。

Mass spectrometry is a key technology for cutting-edge research in a number of fields. This year marks 50 years since the release of Shimadzu’s first MS instrument. Over this long history, we have consistently been incorporating new and diverse technologies into our instruments.

In 1970, Shimadzu introduced the LKB-9000 to Japan. This was the world’s first mass-produced GC/MS. Expanding on this model, the GCMS-QP1000 was released in 1982 as Japan’s first general-purpose quadrupole GC/MS, contributing to the popularization of GC/MS domestically.

Six years later, Shimadzu expanded their lineup of technologies with the world’s first MALDI-TOF device, the LAMS-50K.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Shimadzu’s Koichi Tanaka (now a senior fellow at the company) in 2002, in recognition of his work on soft laser desorption ionization of proteins.

Shimadzu was the first company in Japan to produce a triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS (the LCMS-8030, in 2010) and a triple quadrupole GC-MS/MS (the GCMS-TQ8030, in 2012). The release of the LCMS-9030 in 2018 represented Shimadzu’s first step into the LC/MS Q-TOF market.

Shimadzu will keep striving to create unique products and technologies to accelerate scientific progress in a wide range of fields.
