Tokyo, Japan - Tokaido Line Train Arrives at Shinagawa Station HD (2015)
Shinagawa Station (品川駅 Shinagawa-eki) is a major railway station in Tokyo, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East), Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central), and Keikyu. The Tokaido Shinkansen and other trains to the Miura Peninsula, Izu Peninsula, and the Tōkai region pass through here. Despite its name, it is not located in Shinagawa Ward but just to the north in Minato Ward.
This station is just south of a large yard complex consisting of Shinagawa Carriage Sidings, Shinagawa Locomotive Depot, and Tamachi Depot.
The Tōkaidō Main Line (東海道本線 Tōkaidō-honsen) is a major Japanese railway line of the Japan Railways Group (JR Group) network, connecting Tokyo and Kōbe stations. It is 589.5 km (366.3 mi) long, not counting its many freight feeder lines around the major cities. The high-speed Tokaido Shinkansen largely parallels the line.
The term Tōkaidō Main Line is largely a holdover from pre-Shinkansen days; now various portions of the line have different names which are officially used by JR East, JR Central, and JR West. Today, there are no passenger trains that operate over the entire length of the line (other than certain overnight services; see below), so longer intercity trips require several transfers along the way.
The Tokaido Main Line is owned and operated by three JR companies:
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) (Tokyo - Atami)
Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) (Atami - Maibara)
West Japan Railway Company (JR West) (Maibara - Kōbe)

Tokyo, Japan - Riding the Keikyu Line Through Shinagawa (2019)
The Keikyu Main Line (京急本線 Keikyū-honsen) is a railway line in Japan, operated by the private railway operator Keikyu. The line connects the Tokyo wards of Minato, Shinagawa, Ōta, and the Kanagawa municipalities of Kawasaki, Yokohama and Yokosuka. The Keikyu Main Line began as a short 2 km (1.2 mi) line in 1895. By 1905 it was extended from Shinagawa Station in Tokyo to central Yokohama, becoming a major interurban line between the two cities.
Shinagawa (品川区 Shinagawa-ku) is a special ward in Tokyo, Japan. The ward refers to itself as Shinagawa City in English. The ward is home to ten embassies.
As of 1 April 2016, the ward has an estimated population of 380,293, and a population density of 16,510 persons per km². The total area is 22.84 km².
Shinagawa is also commonly used to refer to the business district around Shinagawa Station, which is not part of the Shinagawa ward. This Shinagawa is in Takanawa and Konan neighborhoods of Minato, directly north of Kita-Shinagawa.
Shinagawa Station Melody Remix - 品川駅メロディーリミックス
There is much to admire about Japanese transportation, but my favourite thing of all is the train melodies. Each station has a unique melody, a short jingle which sounds to alert passengers that the train is about to depart. They are brilliant, and this is our tribute to Shinagawa Station's train melody, composed from cuts and snippets of the jingle itself.
According to Wikipedia, Shinagawa Station (品川駅) carries upwards of a third of a million passengers a day. It is a major railway station in Takanawa, Minato, Tokyo, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company, Central Japan Railway Company, and the private railway operator Keikyu. The Tokaido Shinkansen and other trains to the Miura Peninsula, Izu Peninsula, and the Tōkai region pass through here. Despite its name, it is not located in Shinagawa Ward but just to the north in Minato Ward.
Shinagawa is one of Japan's oldest stations, opened on June 12, 1872, when the service between Shinagawa and Yokohama provisionally started, four months before the inauguration of Japan's first railway between Shimbashi and Yokohama through Shinagawa on October 14, 1872.
The station concourse on the eastern side of the station (located above the platforms) was extensively redeveloped in 2003 in connection with the construction of the Shinkansen platforms and also to improve access to the new commercial development Shinagawa Intercity.
I'll take their word for it.

Yamanote Line
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Yamanote Line (山手線 Yamanote-sen) is railway loop line in Tokyo, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East). It is one of Tokyo's busiest and most important lines, connecting most of Tokyo's major stations and urban centres, including the Yūrakuchō/Ginza area, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro, with all but two of its 29 stations connecting to other railway or underground (subway) lines.
The Yamanote Line as an official line name indicates the tracks between Shinagawa and Tabata that is used by local trains on their own tracks as well as the parallel Yamanote Freight Line which is used by Saikyō Line and Shōnan-Shinjuku Line trains, some limited express services, and freight trains. However, in everyday usage the Yamanote Line refers to the entire 34.5 km loop line served by local trains. (This article uses the same definition.)
Akihabara
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Akihabara (Japanese: 秋葉原), also known as Akihabara Electric Town (Japanese: 秋葉原電気街 Hepburn: Akihabara Denki Gai), is a district of Tokyo, Japan. It is located less than five minutes by rail from Tokyo Station. Its name is frequently shortened to Akiba (アキバ) in Japan. While there is an official locality named Akibahara, which is also 秋葉原 in kanji, nearby (as part of Taitō-ku), the area known to most people as Akihabara (including the railway station of the same name) also include Soto-Kanda, a part of Chiyoda-ku.
Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, anime, games and otaku goods, including new and used items. New items are mostly to be found on the main street, Chūōdōri, with many kinds of used items found in the back streets of Soto Kanda 3-chōme. New parts for PC-building are readily available from a variety of stores. Tools, electrical parts, wires, microsized cameras and similar items are found in the cramped passageways of Soto Kanda 1-chōme (near the station). Foreign tourists tend to visit the big name shops like Laox or other speciality shops near the station, though there is more variety and lower prices at locales a little further away. Akihabara gained some fame through being home to one of the first stores devoted to personal robots and robotics.
The area was just out of Sujikai-gomon city gate (present Mansei bridge) which was one of the city gates (Mitsuke) of old Edo (Tokyo). It was the gateway from inner Edo to northern and northwestern Japan and Kan'ei-ji temple in Ueno. Many dealers, craftsmen and relatively lower class samurai lived there.
Akihabara Station
Akihabara Station (秋葉原駅 Akihabara-eki) is a railway station located in Tokyo's Chiyoda ward. It is at the center of the famous Akihabara shopping district specializing in electronic goods.

Fun activities for rainy days in Tokyo - Fishing and BBQ
Fun activities for rainy days! Fishing and BBQ in Shinagawa
You want to go out and have fun - but unfortunately it's raining ... You probably know that too, right?
Don’t worry! There are special activities in Tokyo that are nice for either sunny or rainy days.
Hidden behind a hotel in Shinagawa you can find the Shinagawa Fishing Garden - a hotel pool that has been converted a Japanese style fishing pond. Since there is a roof, you can go there even if it’s raining.
The entrance fee (for adults) is 790 yen per hour. Bait and fishing rod are 400 yen. My advice: start a fishing contest with your friends and family and you’ll haven even more fun!
In addition to the fishing pond, there is Shinagawa BBQ right next it. The entrance fee is 2500 yen per adult for 3 hours. This price includes tools such as the BBQ grill, charcoal, plates and so on. You can also order a set of meat and vegetables. That means you do not have to bring anything. If you want, you can bring your favorite ingredients, too.
Don’t worry about getting wet. The BBQ area also has a roof. :-)

Tokyo & Yokohama - A High Speed Journey
This video was filmed in 2008 during a couple of nights in Tokyo and one evening in Yokohama. It begins with a few clips from/of/around the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (overlooking the area that supposedly inspired the movie Blade Runner), continues with a short clip from the Akihabara electronics district, then a few shots of some construction work near Shibuya, some clips from Ginza, a shot of Shibuya, a few clips near the Imperial Palace, some stuff in the metro, and finishes off with a clip of the Yokohama Bay Bridge and skyline.
I wish I had some more time in Tokyo and Yokohama, they are great cities to film time-lapses in!
