Ebikes are perfect for touring around cities like Chico, California! Whenever we venture into cities to see their attractions we always get out our folding electric bicycles. They are so much more convenient and fun than navigating cities in our huge truck!
Today's adventures first take us to the Bidwell Mansion State Park, an elegant and opulent estate that has stood since 1868. General John Bidwell and his wife Annie Bidwell lived here since it's construction until the end of their lives.
After the 1 hour guided tour through the mansions 12,000 square feet and 26 rooms we hopped back on our ebikes and buzzed over to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for a guided tour through their facility. I had never had a Sierra Nevada beer so I was excited to see what I had been missing!
Another 1 hour guided tour explained the history of the company, the brewing process, and the equipment/machines they use to get the job done. The tour culminated with a free tasting of 4 of their famous beers - Pale Ale, Otra Vez, Tornado, and Narwhal. You know we left with a 6-pack of our favorite!

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp
Celebrating the craft beer industry at the newest brewery in the mountains. About 4,500 people attended the southeast edition of Beer Camp Across America at Sierra Nevada, Sunday.
The California company is opening the Mills River operation to handle East Coast production and distribution. Sierra Nevada Brewing's Ryan Arnold says, to have a place that we designed after 35 years of lessons out in Chico, it's nice to see a cohesive thing come to life and have thousands of people come out and support the first chance to see it.
One hundred and ten craft brewers from seven southern states poured samples all afternoon. Many who operate local breweries say the new Sierra Nevada presence can only help everybody. It puts us as the epicenter of craft brewing on the East Coast, by volume, which is awesome on so many levels, says Joe Rowland of Nantahala Brewing, not just in terms of enthusiasm, but in terms of suppliers coming here, and the number of jobs that are being created.
Sunday's festival in Mills River brings the Beer Camp Across America summer tour to a close. Sierra Nevada's public tours and tastings are expected to begin sometime in September.

Summerfest is a delightfully refreshing example of a traditional style lager beer. While lighter in body than our ales, Summerfest displays significant hop aroma and a tangy hop bite. The long lagering period adds a smoothness that makes this beer a great summertime treat.

Sierra Nevada - Why We Brew
Inspired by the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains, our beers are designed to be as bold, wild and unwavering as those storied granite peaks. With respect to tradition and an unbridled passion for innovation, Sierra Nevada beers are inspired by the philosophy that anything is possible. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of craft beer and we look forward to the day that flavorful beers are the standard throughout the world.
Purest Ingredients
Put good in and good will come out. We believe that the best results are born from the best possible ingredients. We insist on the highest quality and freshest ingredients for every beer we brew, with an eye toward the environment, responsible farming and our agricultural future.
Traditional Techniques
As one of the craft brewing pioneers, we stay true to the long and proud history of brewing, but tirelessly push the boundaries of conventional wisdom. We're tinkerers and experimenters, constantly looking for a new spin on traditional techniques. We maintain time-honored, labor-intensive techniques including the use of only whole-cone hops, open fermentation and bottle conditioning, while operating a state-of-the-art, modern brewery. We march toward the future, but our soul stays true to brewing heritage, tradition and the art of making beer.
Invention - Hop Torpedo
A new method we created to add hop aroma to beer, the Hop Torpedo is a stainless steel device packed with whole-cone hops. Fermenting beer is circulated out of a fermenter, through the column of whole-cone hops, and back into the fermentation tank. This new method has revolutionized how we dry hop our beers, adding intense hop flavor and aroma with no additional bitterness.
Innovation - Beer Camp
Our Beer Camp brewhouse is where our best ideas are born. Here, we develop recipes, try new techniques and turn fun concepts into crazy new beers. At Beer Camp®, nothing is too far out. Nothing is out of bounds. We work with thousands of ingredients from the hop yard and the orchard to the kitchen cupboard to make these beers truly unique.
Attention to Detail - Sensory
Every day, a panel of trained Sierra Nevada sensory experts taste every lot of beer scheduled to go into the market. They evaluate the flavors to ensure that every bottle meets our rigorous standards of quality at every step of the process from ingredient harvest all the way through bottling.
Commitment to Environment
In the early days, there was no such thing as small-scale brewing equipment. Everything we used was built or repurposed for the brewery. Back then, reduce, reuse, recycle wasn't a catchphrase, but a business model. This hardscrabble ethos and our roots in Northern California built a deeply felt belief toward stewardship and helped solidify our commitment to the environment.
Info on the Vinturi Wine Aerator:
WINE NEEDS TO BREATHE
Wine which has been allowed to breathe tastes better. As wine breathes, it opens up, and releases its intended aromas and flavors. Traditionally, decanters were used to aerate wine. However, decanting is time consuming, cumbersome, and inconvenient.
Vinturi's patented design speeds up this process with ease and convenience. Perfect aeration in the time it takes to pour a glass.
ALL THE TASTE, NONE OF THE WAIT
Simply hold Vinturi over a glass and pour wine through. Vinturi draws in and mixes the proper amount of air for the right amount of time, allowing your wine to breathe instantly. You'll notice a better bouquet, enhanced flavors and smoother finish.
It's that fast. It's that easy.

Tony Kiss, the beer reporter, has been following the local craft brew scene since 1994. He traces the history of Asheville craft beer from the launch of Highland Brewing Company through this year's announcements that both New Belgium Brewing and Sierra Nevada Brewing will build east coast expansion breweries here and Oskar Blues Brewing will build an operation in Brevard. With 10 craft breweries already operating in Buncombe County, and smaller nano breweries continuing to come on line, Asheville is poised to become the east coast craft beer center of the United States.
