Eldorado National Forest is a U.S. National Forest located in the central Sierra Nevada mountain range, in eastern California. Most of the forest lies in El Dorado County. In descending order of land area the others counties are: Amador, Alpine, and Placer counties in California; and Douglas County in Nevada with 78 acres. The forest is bordered on the north by the Tahoe National Forest, on the east by the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, on the southeast by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, and to the south by the Stanislaus National Forest.

Collier Memorial State Park Logging Museum
Collier Memorial State Park features a campground; outdoor museum of historic logging equipment; relocated pioneer village; and a new four-corral, primitive horse camp and trailhead. At the state's finest logging museum, you'll see rare and antique logging equipment dating to the 1880s, as well as more recent pieces.
Railroad buffs will enjoy learning about the role the railroad played in logging. You can imagine the rugged woodsmen and the immense task of moving raw timber with innovation and brute force. The pioneer village gives you another insight into how these families once lived.
The Williamson River and crystal-clear Spring Creek converge in the park. The Williamson River is regionally famous for its quality trout fishery and consistently produces trophy fish. Spring Creek gushes dramatically out of a nearby spring, and then paints a picture-perfect scene as it flows through the park.
In the summer, movies about old-time logging and other topics are shown at 9 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The series continues right through Labor Day. During the day, the park naturalist schedules short hikes along the Williamson River. Check the park when you arrive for a list of times.
From the equestrian trailhead, you can ride north from the park across national forest land to the Jackson F. Kimball State Recreation Site and beyond.
Whether you come for the day to visit the logging museum, the pioneer village, or play along Spring Creek or even camp amongst the pines along the Williamson River - you'll discover a grand adventure at Collier.

California Drives - Redwood Forest Institute | Willits, CA USA
The Redwood Forest Institute is seeking caretakers. My husband and I drove 12 hours from south of Los Angeles to the 400-acre private property to meet the owner and discuss a potential future together, caring for the property and helping the nonprofit with its mission to provide access to the redwoods for education and recreation.
Although we will not be moving there, we will be volunteering for Redwood Forest Institute in technical, administrative, marketing, and fundraising capacities.
You will find quite a bit of information about the Redwood Forest Institute, and its founder Charles Bello, already on YouTube & Google, including several interviews and videos about him, his love for the trees, and what he's done since he purchased 400 acres in 1968.
What you won't find is a video of the drive down Immulco Road. In our video, you can experience it as we did the first time. After over 10 hours driving up from south of Los Angeles, this is the final hour of the drive, in the middle of nowhere, down more than 11 miles of an old dirt logging road. Enjoy!
Reminder: This is a private road and you are only allowed to drive on it by permission.
The Rim Fire Aftermath
From August 2013 through early 2014 the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Central California suffered one of the worst wildfires in state history. These photos display the fire's aftermath at a popular overlook in the Stanislaus National Forest along HWY 120. Photos taken mid-June 2014.

A timeline of United States inventions (1946–1991) encompasses the ingenuity and innovative advancements of the United States within a historical context, dating from the era of the Cold War, which have been achieved by inventors who are either native-born or naturalized citizens of the United States. Copyright protection secures a person's right to his or her first-to-invent claim of the original invention in question, highlighted in Article I, Section 8, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution which gives the following enumerated power to the United States Congress:
In 1641, the first patent in North America was issued to Samuel Winslow by the General Court of Massachusetts for a new method of making salt. On April 10, 1790, President George Washington signed the Patent Act of 1790 (1 Stat. 109) into law which proclaimed that patents were to be authorized for any useful art, manufacture, engine, machine, or device, or any improvement therein not before known or used. On July 31, 1790, Samuel Hopkins of Pittsford, Vermont became the first person in the United States to file and to be granted a patent for an improved method of Making Pot and Pearl Ashes. The Patent Act of 1836 (Ch. 357, 5 Stat. 117) further clarified United States patent law to the extent of establishing a patent office where patent applications are filed, processed, and granted, contingent upon the language and scope of the claimant's invention, for a patent term of 14 years with an extension of up to an additional 7 years. However, the Uruguay Round Agreements Act of 1994 (URAA) changed the patent term in the United States to a total of 20 years, effective for patent applications filed on or after June 8, 1995, thus bringing United States patent law further into conformity with international patent law. The modern-day provisions of the law applied to inventions are laid out in Title 35 of the United States Code (Ch. 950, sec. 1, 66 Stat. 792).
From 1836 to 2011, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted a total of 7,861,317 patents relating to several well-known inventions appearing throughout the timeline below. Some examples of patented inventions between the years 1946 and 1991 include William Shockley's transistor (1947), John Blankenbaker's personal computer (1971), Vinton Cerf's and Robert Kahn's Internet protocol/TCP (1973), and Martin Cooper's mobile phone (1973).
