A protection project on the US 101: Siuslaw River Bridge in Florence, Oregon will preserve the bridge from the harsh coastal environment, ensuring decades more use of the iconic structure, designed by ODOT Bridge Engineer Conde McCullough.

Florence Oregon Bridge, Historic 1936 Art Deco Bridge by Conde McCullough Spans the Siuslaw River
Florence Oregon Bridge built in 1926 by Conde McCullough is celebrated for it's Art Deco arches and romanesque design. Gracefully reaching across the Siuslaw River, the bridge is 4 miles inland from the Pacific.
The details and shapes of the bridge exemplify McCollough's philosophy that engineering can combine function with beauty.

SIUSLAW RIVER CABIN
OLD abandoned cabin on HIghway 126 (between Eugene & Florence Oregon). Very rustic scenic place by the Siuslaw River but very close to the highway. Must have been a great hide-away in its day. has everything: lots of sheds for animals and one big shed maybe as a garage. The front porch beams are just trees. There was really quite a lot of room here and so a person could go outside and be under roofs to feed the animals. It doesn't show in this video but behind the cabin are other covered shed/animal pen type things. This cabin builder didn't have great carpenter skill but he did give himself a lot of room and a beautiful view of the river. Could probably fish in it and gather berries & hunt deer. This was the life millions looked for and he found it on the Siuslaw River in Oregon.

Imagine an historic village, with a romantic bridge over a wide river, and the beaches and dunes that inspired author Frank Herbert, who wrote the science fiction classic Dune.
Florence, on the Oregon central coast, was settled originally by the Siuslaw Native Americans.
In the mid-1800's pioneers arrived, and by 1900 the population of Florence was about 300.
Crossing the Siuslaw River was done by ferry.
In 1936 Conde McCullough designed the Siuslaw River Bridge. He decorated it with gothic spires, romanesque arches, and art deco designs.
Today Florence is Classic Oregon Coast.
Like a gem in a beautiful setting, Florence is surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

There are a total of 56 photos in 10 collages.
The photos were taken with a Panasonic Lumix Digital Camera, 7.2 Megapixel, 6X Optical Zoom, that I bought a year and a half ago.

Crossing the Bridge into Valhalla (Florence, OR)
Prior to visiting my parents in Florence, Oregon for the first time, I used Google Earth with a couple friends to go on a virtual tour. We discovered the amazing bridge on the south end of town. A couple months later, as I journeyed into town, I couldn't resist the playing the Skyrim main theme, since it fit the aesthetic of the bridge so well.
