Hiking at Holiday Lake State Park & Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, VA
We hiked the 6.3 mile Lakeshore Trail Loop. Athough the trailhead is located in the state park, roughly half, maybe more, of the 6.3 mile hike was within the Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest. The state forest is in both Appomattox and Buckingham Counties, Virginia-hence the name. However, this trail is within the bounds of Appomattox County only.
This vid was originally supposed to be 14+ min long but I am having trouble getting my hat cam recorder to convert the files on Windows Movie Maker. So I really wanted to bore you guys more than I did. ANYWAY, stuff you missed was my commentary of how I sat on a copperhead and by the grace of God did not get bitten, some cool pine stands and me bushwhacking along the creek bc the bridge collapsed- good times. Lol!
We really enjoyed the Piedmont area of central Virginia, hopefully we will make it back there one day. See you weirdos on the trail!

1619 and the Making of America
The John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress convened a symposium that brought together respected scholars to explore the intricate encounters of Africans, Europeans and native people during this significant period in America's history. In 1619, a Dutch ship with about 20 Africans on board entered a port at the English colony of Jamestown, Virginia. This event is known as the arrival of the first recorded Africans to English North America. Their historic arrival, however, marked the beginning of a trend in colonial America, in which the people of Africa were taken from their motherland and consigned to lifelong slavery.
From 1619 to 1650, during the life span of the first arriving Africans, racial discrimination emerged and chattel slavery would be codified into law. The symposium will ask questions related to the historical importance of these events in 1619. For example, who were the Africans who arrived in Virginia in 1619, where did they come from, what world did they bring with them? What emerged from Africans' engagement with indigenous Native American populations and their spiritual and cultural life ways, and what is the enduring legacy of this encounter today?
The event also featured a display of treasures and historical items from the Library of Congress' collections related to the early Americas. The symposium was held in collaboration with the Middle Passage Project of the College of William & Mary, the Virginia Commonwealth's 2019 Commemoration and Norfolk State University.

A couple of us recently noticed the wood projecting out from the mud flats at low tide. From ground level, we couldn't distinguish what the shapes were. The drone made them perfectly clear. We hope to learn more about them soon.

Rainy Adventure Into Twin Lakes State Park
Today's adventure starts out in the Prince Edward-Gallion Sate Forest, in southern central Virginia near the town of Green Bay. We bushwhack east through the forest until we arrive at a forest road that takes us into Twin Lakes State Park. Once inside the park, we continue along one of the park's service roads down to the Sandy River, where we meet up with the Otter's Path Trail...a short hike along that trail takes us to Beaver Point Trail and down to the shore of Prince Edward Lake at Beaver Point. Moderate rain persisted during the entire hike. The journey through the forest, both on and off trail, was a lot of fun and this forest is very beautiful and peaceful especially in the rain. Beaver Point was a bit of a disappointment...I love Virginia's state parks, but when it comes to state park lakes, they tend to be over developed and too focused on recreational use for my taste...just as we see here in this video...but all in all it was a fun hike! GHOST HUNTING NELSON HOUSE in Yorktown,Virginia
The Nelson House in Yorktown Virginia is said to be haunted, states HauntedHouses.com. So my wife and I paid it a visit, during the Revolutionary War. There was a Big Battle in Yorktown and it is said that a Young British soldier is in the house from that war. Also, a sobbing woman on the 3rd floor. We did experience some reading from the ERD (Electronic Magnetic Detector) outside in the garden. AAGH (African American Ghost Hunters)
Just Opened Trail! - Mountain Biking The House Creek Greenway Trail Raleigh NC -- August 26th, 2012
Biking on the newly open section of the House Creek Trail from Glen Eden Drive to the Pedestrian Bridge crossing I-440 in Raleigh. This was a 2.9 Mile total section from Crabtree Creek Trail to the I-440 Pedestrian Bridge Crossing, a $3.8M construction. This was scheduled to be fully opened in Mid Sept. the fence was removed from the Glen Eden Drive underpass on Sunday, looked open to me I rode it! Still have orange barrels, fencing and the 2nd bridge has remaining wood yet to be removed. Has 2 Pedestrian underpasses Glen Eden Drive and Lake Boone. Can now ride on trails from Shelly Lake - Lynn Road to the Art Museum, into Umstead Park. Also to Meredith College, NCSU, downtown Raleigh or into Centennial Campus. Thank you Parks and Recreation great addition to all the bike riders, walkers and runners! The Bike my favorite, 2002 Raleigh Mountain Sport M80.
