The Somawathiya Chaitya is located within the Somawathiya National Park on the left bank of the Mahaweli River, and is believed to have been built long before the time of Dutugamunu enshrining the right canine Relic of the tooth of the Buddha. It is attributed to the reign of King Kavan Tissa - Dutugemunu’s father - who ruled Magama. Somawathiya is therefore much older than Ruwanwelisaya, Mirisawetiya Vihara or Jetavanaramaya.
The stupa is named after Princess Somawathi, the sister of King Kavantissa, and the wife of regional ruler Prince Abhaya. The prince built the stupa to enshrine the right tooth relic of the Buddha, obtained from Arahat Mahinda, and named the stupa after the princess. Upon completion of the stupa and other constructions, the prince and princess handed over the temple to Arahat Mahinda and other monks.

Hey guys, today we are going to look at a fantastic ancient structure called Vatadage in the ancient city of Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. This entire place was completely in ruins and was covered with dirt until 1903 when archeologists began excavating this site and found this structure. This circular structure you see, is considered the pinnacle of Sri Lankan architecture and is estimated to be at least 800 years old. It has some of the most beautiful carvings in all of Sri Lanka. But it is not just the beauty of the site that has attracted experts and tourists, it has an ancient secret hidden inside. All archeologists and historians confirm that something special is buried underneath this structure. Some claim this is the tooth of Lord Buddha. Some say it is his begging bowl and others say it is a single strand of hair from the head of Buddha. Whatever it was, it must have been something very important. Why was this structure deliberately buried under a mound of dirt? When the excavation work began in 1903, archeologists noted that it had been intentionally covered by a mound of dirt to make sure no one would find out what was buried underneath. So, whatever is buried underneath this structure, must have some significant value. But what is it?
Perhaps the clue lies in the statues of Buddha. Inside the structure, there are four statues of Buddha situated exactly at the four cardinal direction points. The hands of Buddha show something important. Around the world, almost all ancient Buddhas hands are empty, but in this site, there is something strange. Look at his hands. Do you see this? What is this? Perhaps the sculptors made a mistake while sculpting this particular statue, but no.. this is a different statue and again ..look at his hands. This is found on all the four Buddha statues. This is definitely a scroll containing some kind of text. We can clearly see that it is a cylindrical roll of cloth or paper which had some type of writing.
This is actually a spectacular find: Ancient Buddha Statues holding a scroll. Most people think Buddhism is a simple religion which only focuses on meditation to enlighten the mind. However, ancient Buddhism contains many mystical secrets and focused on advanced technological devices.
What could this scroll have and why is it being held by Lord Buddha himself? Remember, ancient civilizations used symbolism and pictorial representations as clues, this is why all ancient builders carved figures, instead of texts. We still do it today, to a certain extent. In important situations, we resort to putting up pictures rather than words so anyone can understand what's going on. So in order to find out what would have been written in this scroll, the best clues would be found in the structure itself. Let us examine the architecture of the structure. In Sri Lanka, there are usually Stupas, these huge bell like structures. However, the Vatadage has a very unique design. From the outside , it has a circular design, but the top view of the structure reveals something fantastic. It looks like a complex technical diagram to the naked eye, but it is remarkably similar to mount Meru. Now, what is mount Meru? According to Buddhism and Hinduism, mount Meru contains the key to open all physical and spiritual universes. It has as a turtle shaped base with a complex pyramid like structure on top. If you look at the floor plan of Vatadage, it looks identical to a turtle and archaeologists confirm a structure similar to Meru once existed on top of this base.
Is it possible that the scroll Buddha is holding contains some information about Mount Meru? More importantly, is this scroll buried underneath the structure? Where can we find out more information about the Buddhist scrolls which talk about Mount Meru? Such ancient texts were secretly transported to Mogao caves of China , where Buddhist monks stored the scrolls in various caves. In 1907, an explorer by the name of Aurel Stein managed to open a sealed chamber in Mogao caves which contained 50,000 manuscripts in various languages.
Among them is a 2nd century Buddhist diagram of this cosmic mountain called Mount Meru – This is considered the oldest and original form of Mount Meru, but it doesn't look like a mountain, what we see is a device which seems to connect earth and heaven. The actual manuscripts are seldom revealed on the internet, I am only able to get a low quality picture. It looks like a pointed device coming out on top of a circular vessel at the bottom. Recently, the diagram caught the attention of a scientist who works for Northrop-Grumman . Northrop-Grumman is a company which develops advanced weapons for the US military.

Hey guys, today we are going to one of the strangest Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. This is known as the Somawathi Stupa, and this area has reported the largest number of UFO sightings in this country. At least 18 unexplained phenomena have been reported so far, in this place. As you can see, this is a beautiful temple, this type of structure is called a Stupa, but look at these posters nearby. There are a series of photographs which show some bizarre occurrences.
Here you can see a weird thing with purple disk and a green blob like structure. People insist that this was a flying craft and it kept hovering over the stupa for many minutes before disappearing. Here are some more pictures of the UFO from different angles. There are also several bizarre lights which repeatedly appear over the stupa. These are considered as Divine messages from the Gods. Are these authentic pictures or are the authorities creating elaborate hoaxes to fool us?
I met the chief Buddhist monk and he explained to me that these are divine vehicles coming from the sky at certain intervals. I asked him if these are authentic pictures and he confirmed that these are indeed genuine photographs. Buddhist monks are known for being extremely honest and he also pointed out that most of the photographs were not taken by anonymous visitors, but were taken by people of very high position. For example, some of these pictures were taken by a parliament minister of Sri Lanka, by the name of Jayawickrama Perera. I don't know if a person of such high position would risk releasing a fake picture. I think the repeated UFO sightings here are a genuine phenomenon.
Why are these UFO sightings taking place only around this temple? There are at least 6000 Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka, so what is special about this temple? Even though this temple looks brand new, it is actually one of the oldest structures in Sri Lanka, it was built at least 2,200 years ago. There are only 8 temples in the world which house the tooth of Lord Buddha, and the Somawathi temple is one of them.
But perhaps these are not the real reasons for the repeated UFO sightings here. The real reason is that this temple has an ancient crystal placed on top of the stupa.
It looks small from this distance, but this is a massive crystal, more than 1 foot tall. Almost all Buddhist Stupas have this crystal, locally known as Chuda Manikya. But It is said that the Somawathi temple is the only temple which has this original ancient crystal and Lord Buddha himself used this crystal to contact the Nagas. The Nagas are the extraterrestrial, reptilian Gods who are always shown aiding lord Buddha. When we hear stories like this, we always think of a magic crystal ball which is used for psychic communication. But if the UFO sightings are real and can be photographed, it means there is actual technology involved. Do you know that the very first radio sets were created using crystals? These crystal radio sets did not need any external power at all, and were capable of tuning into radio waves and you can even use crystal earphones to listen to the signals. The beauty of this crystal radio is that no batteries or external electricity was needed to make it work. This technology was eventually phased out, because rich businessmen realized that they could not charge people for electricity and make money out of it.
But is this crystal really a radio wave receiver? Many people wonder why Buddhists take enormous pain to place massive crystals on top these tall Stupas. Now, why do people climb on trees to get a better signal on their cell phones? Because to receive radio waves clearly, the device needs to be at a higher altitude, where there is no interference. Is this the same reason why ancient builders placed this gigantic Crystal on top of the Somawathi Temple? To understand this, we need to take a closer look at how these crystals are actually set up.

Somawathi Raja-maha Viharaya hay còn gọi là Somawathiya Chaitya là một ngôi bảo tháp xá lợi linh thiêng bậc nhất của Phật giáo nằm ở thành phố cổ Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka. nằm trong Vườn Quốc gia Somawathiya , bên bờ trái sông Maha-weli . Somawathiya (Somawathi Chethiya) được xây dựng lại vào thế kỷ thứ hai trước Công nguyên do vua Ka-nit-tha Tissa trong năm 164 AC. Theo truyền thuyết của bộ sử thi Mahavamsa, ngôi chùa này được cho là nơi thờ phụng di tích chiếc răng bên phải của Đức Phật.
Tháp được đặt tên theo công chúa Somawathi, em gái của vua Kavantissa,. Công chúa đã xây dựng bảo tháp để bảo vệ các di tích răng phải của đức Phật, do ngài Arahat Mahinda trao tặng, và đặt tên cho tháp theo tên của công chúa. Poḷonnaruwa (Sinhala: පොළොන්නරුව, romanized: Poḷonnaruva; Tamil: பொலன்னறுவ, romanized: Polaṉṉaṟuvai) is the main town of Polonnaruwa District in North Central Province, Sri Lanka. Kaduruwela area is the Polonnaruwa New Town and the other part of Polonnaruwa remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa.
The second most ancient of Sri Lanka's kingdoms, Polonnaruwa was first established by the Chola dynasty as their capital in the 10th century. The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa has been declared a World Heritage Site.
Currently the new Polonnaruwa is undergoing a major development project known as the Awakening of Polonnaruwa under the concept of President Maithripala Sirisena. It envisions the development of all sectors in Polonnaruwa including roads, electricity, agriculture, education, health and environment will be developed comprehensively.

සෝමාවතිය පිළිබඳ පැරණිතම කතාව නම් එය ක්රි.පූ දෙවන සියවසේදී ඉදිකරන ලද්දකි. සමහරු පවසන්නේ එය තම සහෝදරිය වන සෝමාවතී කුමරිය වෙනුවෙන් කවන්තිස්සා රජු විසින් ඉදිකරන ලද්දක් බවයි. වෙනත් ගිණුම් වල එය ඉදිකර ඇත්තේ ඔහුගේ මස්සිනා වන කුමරියගේ සැමියා වන අභය රජු විසිනි. ශාක්යමුනි බුදුන්ගේ දකුණු දත් ධාතු කොටුව සවි කිරීම සඳහා මෙම ස්ථූපය විශ්වාස කෙරේ. එහි පෞරාණික මහිමයට යථා තත්ත්වයට පත් කරන ලද, ස්ථූපයේ අනාවරණය නොවූ තීරුවක් ඇත. ක්රි.පූ. දෙවන සියවසේ මුල් ගඩොල් වැඩ මෙන්ම පසුකාලීන අලුත්වැඩියාවන් ද දැක ගත හැකිය.
බොහෝ ප්රාතිහාර්යයන් මෙම ස්ථූපයට හේතු වේ. 1940 ගණන් වලදී, ප්රදේශයේ අලුතින් පදිංචිව සිටි කණ්ඩායමක් බුදුන් වහන්සේගෙන් නිකුත් වන කිරණ මෙන් විශාල පස් කන්දකින් දිදුලයි. ඔවුන් බලධාරීන් දැනුවත් කර තිබුණි. පරීක්ෂා කිරීමෙන් පසු පුරාවිද්යා ologists යින් එය 1947 දී සෝමාවතියා චෛත්යය ලෙස හඳුනා ගත් අතර එය වසර 800 කට ආසන්න කාලයක් තිස්සේ අහිමි වී ඇතැයි සැලකේ. වසර ගණනාවක් පුරා, බොහෝ බැතිමතුන් කිරණ දුටු බව කියා සිටිති. තවත් කුතුහලය දනවන කතාවක් වන්නේ මිනිසුන් කණ්ඩායමක් දත් ධාතූන් වහන්සේ ලබා ගැනීමට උත්සාහ කළ ආකාරයයි. එහි අභිප්රාය වූයේ ධාතූන් වහන්සේ රැගෙන මහනුවර දත් පන්සලේ තැබීමයි. මී මැස්සන් රංචුවක් එම කාර්යය කළ නොහැකි වූ අතර කණ්ඩායම එම අදහස අතහැර දැමීය.
දේශීය කථා වලට අනුව, අසල්වැසි දේශයේ සැරිසරන වල් අලි බොහෝ විට ස්ථූපයට නමස්කාර කරන අයුරු දැක තිබේ. සෝමාවතියා චෛත්යය නැරඹීමෙන් ඔබ නිහතමානී වනු ඇත. අමුතු හාස්කම් රාශියකට සත්කාරකත්වය සපයන මහා පාළුකරයක් මැද පිහිටි ස්තූපයක සුදු බුබුල යමෙකු අත්විඳිය යුතු දසුනකි.
To make the trip to the Somawathiya Chaitya is also to immerse in many legends and mystical stories. Passing through the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa, you enter the remote village of Sungavila. The road to the grand stupa runs through the sanctuary offering views of wild elephants wallowing in the wetlands feeding on greens.
The oldest story about Somawathiya is that it was built in the second century BC. While some say it was built by King Kavantissa for his sister princess Somawathie other accounts state it was built by his brother-in-law, the princess’s husband, King Abhaya. The stupa is belived to enclose the right tooth relic of the Shakyamuni Buddha. Restored to its ancient glory, there is an uncovered strip in the stupa where one can see the original brickwork laid in the second century BC as well as those of later renovations.
