Making a song using only Indian instruments (Native Instruments Komplete India)
Making a song from scratch in Ableton Live using only instruments from the Native Instruments India Discovery Series Kontakt sample pack which comes with Komplete. This is a collection of various instruments from India including the Sitar, Harmonium, Tabla and others. I don't make Indian music cause I'm not very familiar with that genre (although I have listened to a bit of it), so the music is more Balkan-inspired which is where I'm from. It's not really a synth and it's not really just one instrument but I'm still counting it as a one synth challenge cause it's a single plugin :) I also cheated at the end by using a bass from M-Tron pro. #onesynthchallenge

Sez On The Beat: The Producer Behind Indian Hip-Hop’s Breakout Hits
Over the past two years, the homegrown Indian hip-hop scene has seen several underground rap artists find mainstream success. Rappers like Divine, Naezy, Prabh Deep have gained popularity not just organically but have also been signed by labels and noticed by brands.
But behind the biggest Indian hip-hop hits, is the beat producer Sez On The Beat. Sajeel Kapoor has produced beats for Divine’s Meri Gully Mein and Jungli Sher, Naezy’s Asal Hustle and title track for AIB’s debut show “On Air with AIB”.
Just 24 years old, this Delhi boy has also understood and exploited the organic market for selling his beats online to whoever wants them. Even international artists such as Phora have used his beats and he is currently working on some more international projects.
Watch this video and see how he has impacted the hip-hop scene in India using just his laptop and a mini keyboard. And, enjoy his music as you do so.

A.R. Rahman's KM Music Conservatory - Making Music on the Seaboard RISE
The Seaboardists of Chennai
The legendary composer A.R. Rahman wanted students at the KM Music Conservatory in Chennai, India to experience the Seaboard RISE as early as possible. So six instruments were parcelled out of first batch manufactured, and before they reached music retailers - before many ROLI staff had a chance to handle one themselves - the RISEs shipped to India and were placed in the hands of Zeeshan Nabi, Rishab Nair, Gopikrishnan Parthasarathy, Pradvay Sivashankar, Rachintan Trivedi, and Pawan Ch. These are six of the brightest students at KMMC, which the A.R. Rahman Foundation supports.
This video highlights the intense days (and nights) of musical creativity that followed. On the first day, ROLI’s Manon Dave demonstrated the RISE to a packed auditorium of students and teachers. Then it was up to the six selected students to compose something within 24 hours. “They really took to the instrument straight away,” said Manon. “Within thirty minutes they were playing some classical Hindustani ragas and qawwali favourites on the woodwind and string presets.”
That exercise was just a warmup, however, for a school-wide performance at the end of five days of workshops. Each student composed a piece in whatever musical style he wished, and Manon and KMMC’s Adam Greig were on hand to help. As the students prepared, A.R. Rahman invited them to his personal studio in Chennai for a hands-on Seaboard session. The Academy-Award-winning composer of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack and many other cinematic scores, A.R. incorporates the Seaboard GRAND into his concerts around the world.
One student composed a piece of classical Indian music on the RISE accompanied by the jal-tarang, an ancient instrument that is played by tapping ceramic jars filled with water. Another student opted for a thickly textured electronic composition. No two of the students’ performances were alike. The audience in the KMMC performance hall was rapt listening to an instrument that no one - not even the performers themselves - had seen until five days before. For that week in October the RISE was perhaps the newest instrument in the world. Yet it was working in harmony with the 2,000-year-old jal-tarang, and it carried the melodies of carnatic music as expressively as an instrument made of wood and wire.
Our workshops with KMMC were amazing to witness from London. It showed the team how quickly musicians can pick up a RISE and improvise beautiful pieces of music on it. It also showed us the sheer versatility of the instrument, which suits the rapid, microtonal bends of Indian classical music just as much as it suits the synthetic progressions of electronic music. The six RISEs are staying at KMMC, and the school is planning to incorporate the instrument into the curriculum.
Beautiful, dreamy and inspiring music - Marina India

Marina India was born in the ancient, colorful, multi-lingual city of Varna on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, where the West borders on the East. While her training in the European musical tradition started at an early age, with piano first and later on bassoon at the music Academy in Sofia, she felt drawn to foreign lands and distant horizons. In 1991 she became one of the founding members of the OM Formation, a performing group with which she played experimental music and toured the world. The numerous venues in which she played include a world record “high” – the Kalapatar peak, just below Mount Everest.
Her growing interest in the richness of Indian classical music and eastern traditions led her to the oldest art and music school in New Delhi where she studied from 2003 to 2008. In that period she created the project “Along the Long Road” – a collection of songs strongly influenced by Indian culture and arranged in a way that speaks to contemporary audiences. Between recordings and performances, she did long retreats at ashrams in the north and south of India. While learning to play old Indian music instruments, she discovered the secret power of mantras and Nada Yoga – the yoga of sound; she was taught by advanced spiritual teachers. Continuing with her performing career, Marina India currently records albums with music for meditation and Yoga Nidra (the yoga of dream); she also conducts workshops on Sound Therapy and Sound Yoga.

Largest number of Sitars, mass recital
The Art of Living hosted 'Brahm Naad', where 1,200 sitarists performed together on one platform, in a first-of-its-kind concert in Delhi, India. HH Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's vision behind the two-day programme was to popularise India classical music and re-enforce the power of music in spreading peace and message. The sitarists came from different religions, castes and sections of society from India and various parts of the world. When the strings of sitars plucked in unison, all barriers, definitions and prejudices were transcended. Capturing the confluence of spirituality with music, the evening triumphed the brilliance of Indian classical music and a spectacular demonstration of ancient legacy of India.
A massed sitar recital in New Delhi, in an effort to set a world record for the largest numbers of Sitars playing at once, in a massed fashion, with Indian bamboo flute (bansuri) and tabla accompaniment. The players are from multiple faiths, religions and disciplines across India. Organized by Navbharat Times and titled Brahmnaad / Brahm Naad, the concert was a global first indeed. The Art of Living hosted this historic event - Brahm Naad, which showcased 1000 sitarists on a single platform, in a first-of-its-kind concert. It took place in Noida, Uttar Pradesh on November 21, 2008. The proceeds of the concert were aimed at the relief and rehabilitation of Bihar. Conceived by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the event fulfilled two purposes - to popularise Indian classical music and spread a message about the universality and unifying power of music to spread the message of peace and harmony. Supported by the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, the BrahmNaad initiative also saw the participation of Pt. Ravi Shankar (Sitar), Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia (Flute), Pt. Rajan and Sajan Mishra (Vocal - Hindustani Music), Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma (Santoor) and Sonal Mansingh (Odissi Dancer). The music for this 1000-piece sitar orchestra was based on ancient ragas from the Gandharva Veda. The Art of Living has been involved in the relief and rehabilitation of the state of Bihar, through its volunteer network, at flood hit districts of Khagaria, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Arariya, Madhyapura, Supoul & the army medical camp in Narpatganj.
