Cisco Kid TV episode featuring Split Rock on the Iverson Movie Ranch
This short clip from the Western TV series The Cisco Kid comes from an episode called Quarter Horse, which first aired Jan. 29, 1952. The series starred Duncan Renaldo as Cisco and Leo Carrillo as his sidekick Pancho.
The sequence features a classic rock on the former Iverson Movie Ranch in Chatsworth, Calif., known as Split Rock, which can be identified by its prominent vertical crack. The rock remains at the site today as part of the swimming pool area at the Indian Hills Mobile Home Village, located on Topanga Canyon Boulevard just south of the Simi Valley Freeway.
In the clip, Split Rock is used to anchor a pulley system for a high-wire rig that figures into the action sequence, complete with Cisco — played by a stuntman — launching from the top of Split Rock and hanging from the wire. At the 1:15 mark we get an overview of Sheep Flats, with Smooth Hill in the background.
Leo Carrillo, who played Pancho in the series, is an interesting figure and an important part of Los Angeles history. Carrillo played a heavily stereotyped Latino character in this series — Pancho provided comic relief by repeatedly butchering his attempts to speak English, as he does near the end of this clip. But in real life Carrillo was one of the more enlightened performers in early television, and he had a lot of irons in the fire off-screen.
A member of a prominent early California family, Carrillo transitioned from a successful career as an actor into a life doing work as a philanthropist, conservationist, activist and politician. His name lives on in Southern California through a number of sites he helped preserve or had other involvement with — including Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park in Carlsbad and the Rancho Carrillo Trail, also in Carlsbad. He even had a school named after him in Westminster, Calif.

Tarantulas roam the roads in this town
Every year in southeastern Colorado, thousands of male trantulas scour the plains for a mate. One professor is trying to help people get to know the spiders better and fear them less.

The title says it all! And also I say it all, physically, in this episode, with my sick ass body and also my talkative mouth. I decided to skip the section between the Rakai river and the Rangitata river for my own reasons, now watch the adventure/coughing fits of a young man as he withers away and then gets carried to a trail head to continue to wither.
