As the state’s official sport, surfing is integral to California culture. There’s never a bad time to catch a wave in the Golden State, but thanks to warmer waters September is one of the most popular months to hang ten or otherwise go for a ride. In preparation for California Surfing Day on September 20, host Soterios Johnson welcomes Izzy Tihanyi, a former pro surfer and co-owner of the La Jolla school Surf Diva onto the podcast. Tihanyi shares what to expect from a lesson, while assuring Johnson, a self-proclaimed surfing novice, that anyone can learn to ride. According to Tihanyi, the only risk is falling in love: “Everyone will always remember your first wave. It's like your first kiss, you'll never forget it.” Johnson is next joined by Ryan Robinson, an adventure athlete fresh off an epic Northern California road trip. The professional highliner and American Ninja Warrior alum shares his favorite moments from his journey through Gold Country, Shasta Cascade, and Humboldt County. The stoke is high as Robinson regales Johnson with tales of rappelling down waterfalls and chasing the sunset through redwoods along the Lost Coast. Drizzling every cold day for the first week of July, and a big south early in the week in Encinitas, California. This is a surf camp put on by Leucadia Surf School at Moonlight Beach.

La Jolla Shores is a beach and popular vacation/residential community of the same name in La Jolla, San Diego, California. The quaint La Jolla Shores business district is a relaxed, mixed-use village encircling Laureate Park, on Avenida de la Playa in the village of La Jolla Shores.
The beach is approximately one mile long and stretches from the sea cliffs just north of La Jolla Cove to Black's Beach south of Torrey Pines State Park. Shores meets the Scripps Institution of Oceanography campus and Kellogg Park, encompasses the Scripps Pier and borders the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve to the south. The beach is a popular launch point for kayakers as it is the only beach boat launch in the San Diego city limits. The beach is also popular among stand up paddlers, swimmers and snorkelers. During certain times of year you can see leopard sharks, stingrays and other sea-life.
La Jolla Shores is considered on the most beautiful spots in all of La Jolla. Here you will find grand homes located on the oceanfront and near the beach. Oceanfront homes in this area are often priced between $10 to $20 million. Condominiums and quint essential California neighborhoods abound, starting home prices start around one million dollars.
This is also a popular spot for vacation rentals especially during the high season summer months.

Dr. Natasha Josefowitz epitomizes the terms trailblazer – and has spent her life as an educator both within and outside of academia. She is a business consultant, keynote speaker, poet and author of 20 books.
Born in Paris, France in 1926, Dr. Josefowitz immigrated to the United States as a 12-year-old with her Russian-born parents in 1939. She earned her master’s degree at 40 and her Ph.D. at age 50.
In 1980, she wrote “Paths to Power: A Woman’s Guide from First Job to Top Executive” which quickly became a best-selling guide for women in the workplace.
She taught the first college course in the country on women in management. In the mid-1980s, she became one of the first female members of Rotary International in California. A longtime supporter of empowering women, she worked as a consultant with government, for-profit, and non-profit organizations to help women enter male-dominated workplaces.
Dr. Josefowitz has hosted her own television segment and has appeared regularly on National Public Radio and television talk shows, as well as writing her own nationally syndicated column. She also is a best-selling author and award-winning poet of 20 business and poetry books.
A recent project focused on how men and women grieve and heal differently. Her book, Living Without the One You Cannot Live Without, is a reflection of her research and personal experiences on the subject.
