The Taft Museum of Artb is a great Cincinnati Ohio venue. Everywhere I turned I saw another photo opportunity. Not too many people know this but I travel all over the state with no travel charge. I love photographing weddings in Cincinnati and Cleveland Ohio. It is nice to get out of Columbus and try something new. The Taft Museum of Art has a great grass area and back patio that can be covered with a tent and decorated very easily. I like the seating and the staff was very accommodating. Born in New York State, Robert Scott Duncanson spent his early childhood in Canada before moving back to the U.S. and eventually settling in Cincinnati with his mother in 1840. Details about his life before Cincinnati, including his early training in painting, are sparse, but while working as a house and sign painter, Duncanson began to create small genre scenes and landscapes on the side. Demand for his paintings was stable enough to inspire Duncanson to pursue an art career, and by 1842, he was showing his work and receiving commissions in the Cincinnati area. His early portrait paintings were featured in an exhibition sponsored by the Society for the Promotion of Useful Knowledge, and during the 1850s, Duncanson emerged as the principal landscape painter in the Ohio River Valley, receiving impressive recognition for his pastoral landscapes and views of the American wilderness. In 1853, he was commissioned to paint illustrations for Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, and that same year, with funding from the Freeman’s Aid Society and the Anti-Slave League, he traveled to Europe, where the landscapes of Claude Lorrain had a profound influence on him. Upon his return to the U.S. (c.1854), Duncanson operated a professional photography studio, but soon gave it up and returned to painting. In the early 1860s, troubled by the racial strife of the Civil War, Duncanson exiled himself toCanada before touring the British Isles. He returned to the Cincinnati area and died in 1872 while working on an exhibition in Detroit. At the height of his career, Duncanson’s achievements rivaled those of Hudson River Valley painters like Thomas Cole, Asher Brown Durand, and John Frederick Kensett, and he received notice from prominent Ohio citizens such as Nicholas Longworth, who commissioned Duncanson to paint a series of large murals at his home (currently the Taft Museum of Art). Following his death, Duncanson’s work lapsed into obscurity. However, in 1986, the Robert S. Duncanson Society was founded at the Taft Museum to preserve Duncanson’s legacy and affirm the museum’s continued commitment to the work of black American artists. In 1993, The Emergence of the African-American Artist: Robert S. Duncanson written by Joseph D. Ketner was published by the University of Missouri Press; the text which includes more than 130 illustrations is a major contribution to the history of art in America.

The African American Cultural & Resource Center at the University of Cincinnati celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2016. This panel discusses the history of the AACRC, from its inception, where it current is, and looking to the future.
This project is a part of an oral history collection, partnering with the Cincinnati Museum Center, UC Libraries, the UC Alumni Association, and the UC Office of Equity & Inclusion.
Panelists include: Harlan Jackson, Ewaniki Moore-Hawkins, Dr. Anthony Perzigian, Nyirah Jackson, and Dr. P. Eric Abercrumbie. Panel is moderated by Justin M. Gibson.

Cincinnati is a city in Ohio, on the Ohio River. The Over-the-Rhine district is known for its 19th-century architecture, including Findlay Market, which has food and craft vendors. To the north is the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. The Cincinnati Museum Center encompasses history, science and children's museums in the art deco Union Terminal. Works spanning 6,000 years are on display at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
Cincinnati is Ohio's third largest city and the largest metro region. It lies on the north bank of the Ohio River in Southwest Ohio in the United States of America. Known as the Queen City or Queen of the West, Cincinnati was the only 19th century American city that left a favorable impression on the then 30-year-old English author Charles Dickens. “Cincinnati is a beautiful city; cheerful, thriving, and animated,” Dickens wrote in “American Notes.” “I have not often seen a place that commends itself so favorably and pleasantly to a stranger at the first glance as this does: with its clean houses of red and white, its well-paved roads, and foot-ways of bright tile. Nor does it become less prepossessing on a closer acquaintance.”
Avondale is a primarily residential urban neighborhood near the center of the city, notable for the presence of the Cincinnati Zoo.
Hyde Park is an upscale, largely white and upper class residential neighborhood. Mt. Adams is a trendy, upscale neighborhood located directly northeast of downtown Cincinnati. Clifton, not to be confused with a nearby Clifton Heights, is also located near the city center. Mt. Washington is an up and coming economically diverse neighborhood located on Cincinnati's east side.
Northside is an economically and racially diverse neighborhood notable for a strong sense of community investment and pride. Oakley is an up and coming neighborhood that borders Hyde Park. ver-the-Rhine (OTR) is the city's historic district. Price Hill is one of Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhoods, first settled in 1789 and named Price Hill in the 1870s after General Rees Price. West End the little bit that survived of this once large densely populated neighborhood would not be notable for travelers except for the Dayton Street Historic District. Riverfront/The Banks This is a newly developed area in downtown Cincinnati that falls between Great American Ballpark home of the Reds. Newport and Covington Though these neighborhoods are actually across the river in Kentucky.
