Temple of Athena - FULL VIDEO TOUR (Cape Sounion, Greece)
On our first day of landing into Athens, we drove directly down to Cape Souion to see the Temple of Poseidon! The area and views are beyond amazing! It was an interesting 40-50 mile drive from Athens (You'll see! lol) and very worth it!! The houses are very expensive in this part of Greece and it's a hidden paradise on the Aegean sea.
There is free parking at the Temple of Poseidon just next door, so no problems there! The temple is surrounded like a chain-link fence where by the main gate is closed during the night. However, you'll find many people hopping the fence at night and walking up to the temple (I wouldn't recommend it as a tourist!)
When we arrived, it was night time.
It seems like the Temple of Athena is free to enter. Nobody was at the ticket booth and it was well past opening hours. The whole area was kinda deserted. It seems they get most of their money from the Temple of Poseidon visitors, so they ticket them over there instead lol!
The temenos of Athena Sounia is built on a low hill in Sounion, a short distance from the better preserved and more visible Temple of Poseidon. Very little of the temple of Athena or the sanctuary remains on site today besides traces of foundations and bases of columns and statue.
The temple of Athena was built in 470 BCE to replace an earlier building which was destroyed early in the 6th century BCE. According to Levi (Pausanias, 9) At least the facade of Athene's temple must have been stripped in the first century A.D. and taken to Athens for a temple in the Agora, as several of its Ionic columns and a block of cornice have been found there. In the third century they were re-used in the Valerian wall.
The temple of Athena had a colonnade on the south side that faced cape Sounion, but not on the west or north sides, giving it an unusual appearance. Its roof was supported by four columns, the bases of which are preserved along with the base of the cult statue that resided in the cella. Two of the Ionic capitals from the temple are exhibited today in the Agora Museum in Athens
Cape Sounion (Modern Greek: Aκρωτήριο Σούνιο, transliterated Akrotírio Soúnio, pronounced [akroˈtirʝo ˈsuɲo]; Ancient Greek: Ἄκρον Σούνιον, Άkron Soúnion; Venetian: Capo Colonne, Cape of Columns) is a promontory located 69 kilometres (43 mi) south-southeast of Athens, at the southernmost tip of the Attica peninsula in Greece.
Cape Sounion is noted as the site of ruins of an ancient Greek temple of Poseidon, the god of the sea in classical mythology. The remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The ruins bear the deeply engraved name of English Romantic poet Lord Byron (1788–1823).

Coral Castle Temple Of Athena Nike Connection
In this video today, I am going to show you a correlation between the Temple of Athena Nike, a temple built on the Acropolis in Greece, a famous outcropping of rock that contains some of the most famous ancient structure ever built, including the Parthenon. These buildings not only incorporated Phi into their construction, but, as you will see, may have been an inspiration for Edward Leedskalnin in creating the Coral Castle, or at the very least, another clue that he left behind in regard to the secret to his amazing abilities.

LONDON: The STOLEN FRIEZES OF THE GREEK TEMPLE of ATHENA NIKE (at the BRITISH MUSEUM) ????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go to the famous British Museum in London and let's view the friezes of the Temple of Athena Nike (Greek: Ναός Αθηνάς Νίκης) which was a temple on the Acropolis of Athens. It was named after the Greek goddess, Athena Nike. Built around 420BC, the temple is the earliest fully Ionic temple on the Acropolis. It was a prominent position on a steep bastion at the south west corner of the Acropolis to the right of the entrance, the Propylaea. In contrast to the Acropolis proper, a walled sanctuary entered through the Propylaea, the Victory Sanctuary was open, entered from the Propylaea's southwest wing and from a narrow stair on the north. The sheer walls of its bastion were protected on the north, west, and south by the Nike Parapet, named for its frieze of Nikai celebrating victory and sacrificing to their patroness, Athena Nike.
The British Museum, in the Bloomsbury area of London, United Kingdom, is a public institution dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection of some eight million works is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence, having been widely sourced during the era of the British Empire.

Ο Ναός της Αθηνάς Νίκης στην Ακρόπολη (Temple of Athena Nike, Acropolis, Athens, GR)
The temple of Athena Nike stands at the southeast edge of the sacred rock atop a bastion, which in Mycenaean times protected the entrance to the Acropolis. The Classical temple, designed by architect Kallikrates and built in 426-421 BC, succeeded earlier temples also dedicated to Athena Nike. The first one of these, a mid-sixth century BC wooden temple was destroyed by the Persians in 480 BC. The eschara, the altar believed to have supported the cult statue of the goddess, dates to this period. Under Kimon, c. 468 BC, a small temple of tufa was erected around the base of the statue and a new altar was built outside the temple. The foundations of these early temples and altars are preserved inside the bastion under the floor of the Classical structure. Pausanias (1, 22, 4) refers to this temple as that of the Apteros Nike, or Wingless Victory, and mentions that the cult statue of the goddess had no wings so that she would never leave Athens. Apart from the cult of Athena Nike other, earlier cults were also practiced on this site. On the west side of the bastion was a Mycenaean double-apsed shrine and on the east side, the pre-Classical shrines of the Graces and of Hekate Epipyrgidia. The construction of the Classical temple of Athena Nike was part of the Periklean building project. Several inscriptions, mostly decrees of the city of Athens, provide information on this particular part of the project.
