Galveston Naval Museum part 1
Galveston’s Museum Day in January was a lot of fun, made more so by connecting with RV friends Tom and Stacie (RV Texas Y’all)
After we toured the Galveston Railroad Museum, we met Tom and Stacie for lunch. From there we all made our way to the Galveston Naval Museum (formerly the American Undersea Warfare Center).
Here you get sort of a two-fer-one on museums as two WW 2 vessels call the Galveston Naval Museum home.
The first one we toured was the USS Cavalla, a submarine. She served in WW 2 and has been called the Avenger of Pearl Harbor. On her maiden patrol, the Cavalla sank the Japanese Aircraft Carrier, Shokaku, a veteran of the Pearl Harbor attack.
She was also tagged with the nick name Lucky Lady as she was commissioned on February 29, 1944, a Leap Year.
It was surprising to see how much could be contained in such a compact space…makes our RV feel spacious by comparison! They also had Big Band music playing in the background...a nice accent to the period posters and information that was throughout the vessel.
Oh, and later on that day, we learned the top deck is currently (and appropriately named) purpleheart wood. Her teakwood decking is currently in storage awaiting restoration.
If you get to Galveston, we recommend a visit…it’s an interesting slice of American history!
Oh...by the way..this was filmed with a GoPro 5 carried on a chest harness.

USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS-10): Explanation of Ship Construction, History and Capabilities
USS Gabrielle Giffords (LCS-10) is an Independence-class littoral combat ship of the United States Navy. The ship is named after former United States Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot along with eighteen other people during a 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona. The ship's name was announced by then-Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus on 10 February 2012. Gabrielle Giffords will be the 16th U.S. naval ship to be named for a woman by the United States Navy, and the 13th U.S. naval ship since 1850 to be named after a living person.
Construction on Gabrielle Giffords began with her keel laying on 16 April 2014, at the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Alabama. Rep. Giffords, still recovering from injuries sustained in the 2011 assassination attempt, attended the ship's keel-laying ceremony, and with the assistance of an Austal welder, welded her initials into a plate that would become part of the ship's hull. Gabrielle Giffords was launched, and then moved from her construction facility to drydock, on 26 February 2015. The ship was christened in a ceremony held at the Austal USA shipyard on 13 June 2015, and Second Lady of the United States Jill Biden served as ship sponsor at the christening. The ship was delivered to the U.S. Navy on 23 December 2016, and commissioned the following spring on 10 June 2017, in Galveston, Texas.
Ship History. After commissioning, Gabrielle Giffords conducted qualification trials on her official maiden voyage from Texas to her home port of San Diego, California via the Panama Canal, arriving at Naval Base San Diego on 5 July 2017. She has been assigned to Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One. During summer 2019 the ship was equipped with MQ-8C Fire Scout drones and Naval Strike Missiles and from September deployed in an offensive role in the seas off China.

CLEVELAND CLASS LIGHT CRUISER WWII U.S. NAVY COLOR DOCUMENTARY FILM 20364
This WWII color film Your Ship in Action shows the construction and launch of a Cleveland class light cruiser USS Denver (CL-58). It was intended as an industrial incentive film, shown to the American public to raise money for the WWII war effort. The ship shows the Camden, New Jersey shipyard manned by Rosie the Riveter women war workers (1:29) circa 1942. At 2:35 a commissioning ceremony is shown with the ship being prepared for sea and future combat in the Pacific.
USS Denver (CL-58) was a Cleveland-class light cruiser. Denver launched on 4 April 1942 by New York Shipbuilding Corp., Camden, New Jersey; and commissioned on 15 October 1942, Captain Robert Carney in command. The ship served in combat in the Solomons in March of 1943, and was heavily damaged in a Japanese attack in November of that year. In 1944 she bombarded Angaur, and participated in the Leyte landings and the destruction of the Japanese fleet at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Her service continued in 1945 supporting amphibious landings at Brunei Bay, Borneo, and later at Balikpapan. She helped support the landing of occupation forces in Japan before returning to the USA in November of 1945. The ship won the Navy Unit Commendation and Denver received 11 battle stars for her World War II service. Colorado was scrapped in 1960.
The Cleveland class ships were built for the U.S. Navy during World War II, and were the most numerous class of light cruisers ever built. The Cleveland-class was a development of the preceding Brooklyn-class. The ships were designed with the goal of increased cruising range, anti-aircraft armament, torpedo protection, etc., compared with earlier U.S. cruisers. To achieve this, the fifth 6 inch gun turret was omitted. This also gave room for the enlargement of the bridge spaces to accommodate the new combat information center and the necessary radars. However, the increase of light anti-aircraft artillery made the class top-heavy towards the end of World War II. To compensate for the weight increase, some ships had one catapult removed, also the range finders were removed from turret A.
Fifty-two ships of this class were originally planned, but nine of them were completed as the light aircraft carriers of the Independence class, and two of them were completed to a somewhat different design, with more compact superstructures and just a single stack. These two were called the Fargo class. Of the 27 Cleveland-class cruisers that were commissioned, one (Galveston) was completed as a guided missile cruiser and five were later modified as Galveston and Providence-class guided missile cruisers. Two of each of the guided missile cruiser-classes had enlarged superstructures to serve as flagships. Following the naming convention at the time, all the ships completed as cruisers were named for US cities and towns.

(1) The Soviet Missile Crisis of 1976
(2) Hitler's pattern for America's bicentennial era
(3) The plans for America's future under occupation and dictatorship
Hello, my friends, this is Dr. Beter. Today is July 19, 1976,
and this is my monthly AUDIO LETTER No. 14.
What I am forced to tell you about today is grave and urgent
beyond description. I believe you have a right and a need to
know about it, and yet I already know that in all likelihood you
will not believe me when I tell you because it is something no
one wants to believe. I've wrestled with this thing wondering
how best to tell you what you must be told, but all I can say is
that it is absolutely true beyond any shadow of a doubt. I stake
my entire life and my reputation on this fact. If there were any
doubt at all about what I am about to reveal, I would not reveal
it.
At this very moment the United States of America is teetering
on the precipice of a devastating nuclear surprise attack the
likes of which the world has never seen. If the detailed plans
for war that I have already told you about are carried out as
discussed especially in my monthly AUDIO LETTERS Nos. 6, 12, and
13, this attack might not come for as much as another year or
even more; but that is a very big IF because the capability for
this attack is now in place, and it includes provisions for a
Soviet double-cross of their allies--the four Rockefeller
Brothers, who now rule America behind the scenes.
Today I want to alert you to the terrible threat we face by
means of these topics:
Topic #1--THE SOVIET MISSILE CRISIS OF 1976
Topic #2--HITLER'S PATTERN FOR AMERICA'S BICENTENNIAL ERA
Topic #3--THE PLANS FOR AMERICA'S FUTURE UNDER OCCUPATION AND
DICTATORSHIP
Topic #1--It was a sleepy Sunday morning in Hawaii nearly 35
years ago when WORLD WAR II came to America. Much of the Pacific
fleet of the United States Navy was peacefully at anchor
suspecting nothing, while President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his
closest advisors far away in Washington, D.C. waited anxiously
for the attack to occur as planned. At 7:55 A.M. on that
peaceful Sunday morning, December 7, 1941, more than 100 Japanese
aircraft suddenly appeared in the skies over the Island of Oahu,
Hawaii. All attempts to warn the Navy of the impending attack
had been thwarted or delayed, and the bottled up American fleet
was torn to shreds as a result of the complete surprise that
resulted. F.D.R. and his closest advisors had made sure that no
aircraft carriers were caught in the raid because these would be
indispensable in the retaliation to come against Japan. Instead,
the sacrifice was limited to battleships, destroyers, cruisers,
and several thousand American Servicemen's lives.
Soon the news of the crushing disaster that had befallen the
United States Navy flashed across a stunned and unbelieving
America, and the words Pearl Harbor from that day have been a
synonym for surprise attack of the most catastrophic variety. It
should also bring to mind high treason and intrigue, because
while most Americans were trying to recover from the shock and
horror of the Pearl Harbor attack, F.D.R. and his Rockefeller
bosses were congratulating themselves on the success of the
operation. The United States would now be drawn into the war
against Hitler, enabling a Rockefeller take-over of the formerly
British oil concessions in Saudi Arabia; yet President Roosevelt
would be making good on his campaign promises not to send
American boys away to die in a foreign war. Instead, he had
arranged to get us into war by allowing several thousand American
boys to die in a rigged attack on American territory--Pearl
Harbor! His renowned Day of Infamy speech then galvanized the
nation overnight into a fighting mood. The obstacle of American
isolationist sentiment had been flattened, and the United States
was AT WAR.
Today we are once again at the mercy of an imminent Pearl
Harbor-type attack. As before, we are being given no warning
whatever that this is the case aside from the general level of
tensions here and abroad. But this time it has been planned to
be far worse because this time the plan is not for America to win
the war but to lose it.[...]

Dr. Peter David Beter - Audio Letter No. 15 - August 2, 1976
Text:

(1) The Rockefeller sellout of America to the Soviet Union
(2) The Soviet strategy for surprise naval attack in Nuclear War I
(3) The world-wide locations of Soviet underwater missiles and bombs
Normally I record each issue of my monthly AUDIO LETTER around
mid-month or later, but this month I must make an exception,
because of the urgency of what I have to tell you.
In monthly AUDIO LETTER(R) No. 12, three months ago, I
revealed the joint Rockefeller-Soviet plan for NUCLEAR WAR ONE to
be waged primarily on American soil. In that tape I also
revealed the existence of the super secret Nuclear Safe Zone--a
swath across the upper half of the continental United States and
lower Canada between the latitudes of 40 and 50 degrees North
within which nuclear attack had been agreed not to take place
under secret agreements between the four Rockefeller Brothers and
their Soviet allies. The fact that the four Brothers themselves
take this agreement very seriously is reflected by the fact that
they have virtually abandoned the famous Rockefeller estates at
Pocantico Hills, New York, moving their secret documents and
other assets to their other homes on Mt. Desert Island and
Bartlett Island just off the coast of Maine, right in the middle
of the Nuclear Safe Zone. Only today, in fact, Nelson
Rockefeller entertained reporters at Seal Harbor, which is on Mt.
Desert Island; but in monthly AUDIO LETTER No. 12 I also reported
that more and more of the Trustees of the major
Rockefeller-controlled Foundations, through whom the Rockefellers
exercise their control over our economy and our government, are
increasingly fearful that the ONE WORLD program of the
Rockefellers has jumped the tracks.
Over a period of 50 years and more the wealth and power of the
western world, especially the United States, has been bled off in
a continuous transfusion to strengthen the Soviet Union
artificially. But now they see increasingly that they have
opened Pandora's box and that a terrible double-cross by the
Soviet Union is looming closer and closer as the hideous dead end
of their behind-the-scenes control of our nation.
The very next month, in monthly AUDIO LETTER No. 13 I was able
to reveal the existence of a Soviet-planted nuclear weapon in the
waters near the entrance to Seal Harbor, Maine, ready to destroy
the summer homes of David and Nelson Rockefeller upon Soviet
command. And just two weeks ago in monthly AUDIO LETTER No. 14
for July 1976, I revealed the presence in American territorial
waters not only of three more bombs but of 10 short-range,
underwater-launch, multiple-warhead missiles with nuclear
warheads.
We are now in the grip of a grotesque rerun of the deadly
Soviet Missile Crisis of 1971 which I revealed and described in
monthly AUDIO LETTER No. 14. Now, as then, our leaders are not
telling you one word about it, but this time the Soviet threat is
vastly greater and more imminent than it was in 1971. What the
Soviet Union is hatching, my friends, is a devastating naval
surprise attack of world-wide dimensions which goes far beyond
even the huge dimensions of the threat I revealed to you last
month. No less than 25 countries around the world are now
threatened with surprise attack by the Soviet Union at any moment
the Soviets may choose by means of underwater-launched missiles
and bombs planted by the Soviet Navy.
It has now been two weeks since I recorded monthly AUDIO
LETTER No. 14 in which I challenged the United States Joint
Chiefs of Staff to take appropriate action about the deadly
Soviet nuclear offensive weapons in our territorial waters and in
which I pledged my readiness to cooperate fully with the Joint
Chiefs. My challenge and offer of cooperation were also
transmitted directly to the appropriate officials; but, my
friends, as of this moment I have not received one word of
official reply to my charges, my challenge, or my offer to help!
The Joint Chiefs of Staff have been given notice of specific
aggressive acts by the Soviet Union that imperil the peace and
security of the United States, the placement of offensive nuclear
weapons at strategic locations within American territorial
waters; but to my knowledge up to this moment they have not taken
any action whatever to seek out, much less to destroy, any of the
bombs or missiles I revealed last month including even the
missile near Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, whose location I spelled out
in navigational coordinates. So long as this inaction continues,
they are failing to protect our shipping, to protect our vital
sea lanes of communication, to maintain general naval supremacy
in our own waters, and to protect crucial naval bases and
property among other things. [...]

SUMMARY
=======
The sea, the world ocean or simply the ocean is the connected body of salty water that covers over 70 percent of the Earth's surface. It moderates the Earth's climate and has important roles in the water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle. It has been travelled and explored since ancient times, while the scientific study of the sea—oceanography—dates broadly from the voyages of Captain James Cook to explore the Pacific Ocean between 1768 and 1779. The word sea is also used to denote smaller, partly landlocked sections of the ocean.
The most abundant solid dissolved in sea water is sodium chloride. The water also contains salts of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, amongst many other elements, some in minute concentrations. Salinity varies widely, being lower near the surface and the mouths of large rivers and higher in the depths of the ocean; however the relative proportions of dissolved salts varies little across the oceans. Winds blowing over the surface of the sea produce waves, which break when they enter shallow water. Winds also create surface currents through friction, setting up slow but stable circulations of water throughout the oceans. The directions of the circulation are governed by factors including the shapes of the continents and the rotation of the earth (the Coriolis effect). Deep-sea currents, known as the global conveyor belt, carry cold water from near the poles to every ocean. Tides, the generally twice-daily rise and fall of sea levels, are caused by the rotation of the Earth and the gravitational effects of the orbiting Moon, and to a lesser extent of the Sun. Tides may have a very high range in bays or estuaries. Submarine earthquakes arising from tectonic plate movements under the oceans can lead to destructive tsunamis, as can volcanoes, huge landslides or the impact of large meteorites.
A wide variety of organisms, including bacteria, protists, algae, plants, fungi and animals, live in the sea, which offers a wide range of marine habitats and ecosystems, ranging vertically from the sunlit surface waters and the shoreline to the enormous depths and pressures of the cold, dark abyssal zone, and in latitude from the cold waters under the Arctic ice to the colourful diversity of coral reefs in tropical regions. Many of the major groups of organisms evolved in the sea and life may have started there.
The sea provides substantial supplies of food for humans, mainly fish, but also shellfish, mammals and seaweed, whether caught by fishermen or farmed underwater. Other human uses of the sea include trade, travel, mineral extraction, power generation, warfare, and leisure activities such as swimming, sailing and scuba diving. Many of these activities create marine pollution. The sea is important in human culture, with major appearances in literature at least since Homer's Odyssey, in marine art, in cinema, in theatre and in classical music. Symbolically, the sea appears as monsters such as Scylla in mythology and represents the unconscious mind in dream interpretation.

SUMMARY
=======
Amphibious warfare is a type of offensive military operation that today uses naval ships to project ground and air power onto a hostile or potentially hostile shore at a designated landing beach. Through history the operations were conducted using ship's boats as the primary method of delivering troops to shore. Since the Gallipoli Campaign, specialised watercraft were increasingly designed for landing troops, materiel and vehicles, including by landing craft and for insertion of commandos, by fast patrol boats, zodiacs (rigid inflatable boats) and from mini-submersibles.
The term amphibious first emerged in the UK and the USA during the 1930s with introduction of vehicles such as Vickers-Carden-Loyd Light Amphibious Tank or the Landing Vehicle Tracked.Amphibious warfare includes operations defined by their type, purpose, scale and means of execution. In the British Empire at the time these were called combined operations which were defined as ...operations where naval, military or air forces in any combination are co-operating with each other, working independently under their respective commanders, but with a common strategic object. All armed forces that employ troops with special training and equipment for conducting landings from naval vessels to shore agree to this definition.
Since the 20th century an amphibious landing of troops on a beachhead is acknowledged as the most complex of all military maneuvers. The undertaking requires an intricate coordination of numerous military specialties, including air power, naval gunfire, naval transport, logistical planning, specialized equipment, land warfare, tactics, and extensive training in the nuances of this maneuver for all personnel involved.

Dr. Peter David Beter - Audio Letter 30 - January 28, 1978

(1) The one-world plan of our secret rulers gone awry
(2) The agressive new policies of the Kremlin
(3) The Soviet readiness to police the world
Hello, my friends, this is Dr. Beter. Today is January 28,
1978, and this is my Audioletter No. 30.
One evening last spring the Beverly Hills Supper Club in
Southgate, Kentucky, was packed with customers. They were
enjoying a good time, and the troubles of the world outside
seemed remote and forgotten for the moment. But in a room away
from the crowds, fire broke out. It soon became apparent that
the fire would spread to the rest of the Club. Someone went on
stage to warn the customers to leave. He called for attention,
and warned them in a calm voice that fire had broken out in
another part of the Club. He cautioned them against panic but
urged everyone to get up immediately and leave in an orderly
manner while there was time to do so. A few people listened,
took him at his word or at least decided 'Better Safe than Sorry'
and got up and left. But to his astonishment many did not listen
at all, and most of those who did listen just laughed and went
back to their merrymaking--after all, they could not see any
flames nor even any smoke. And so the man redoubled his
warnings, pleading with them to leave before the fire
arrived--but to no avail. A few who had doubted at first now
realized that he was serious, and got out; but many continued to
ignore him. No flames, no smoke, so how could there be a fire.
But then suddenly there was smoke, and a moment later--fire! The
fire spread rapidly, panic broke out as people surged toward the
doors. Soon the Beverly Hills Supper Club was a raging inferno,
and the loss of life was staggering. Meanwhile the few who had
heard and heeded the warnings, stood outside looking in awe at
the horrible nightmare before them.
My friends, I feel today like the man who tried in vain to
give that warning to the patrons of the Beverly Hills Supper
Club. Five years ago when I wrote my book The Conspiracy
Against the Dollar there was still time for an aroused American
public to stave off disaster. Since that time I have tried
through Congressional testimony, radio and television Talk Shows,
lectures and tape recordings, to wake up America in time. A few
have listened and have even taken action in every way they could
to help, and that makes the whole effort worthwhile to me
personally; but most of us today will never bring ourselves to
really believe our nation is threatened by the fires of nuclear
war until we begin to be singed by the flames.
As I speak to you today, the flames are already licking at our
feet. The forces which were set in motion by our secret rulers
decades ago, have suddenly turned against them in recent months.
Now they are trying frantically to stop some of the things they
have launched, but it is too late. While they have been gambling
over the years, the rulers in the Kremlin have been playing a
shrewd game of chess, and now checkmate is upon us. What's more,
a very important shift in power within the Kremlin ruling circles
has taken place in recent weeks, whose effect is to accelerate
the possible demise of our once great land. [...]
