The Kiss Statue USS Midway San Diego
The 25 ft tall Kiss statue is of the famous photograph taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt during the VJ Day celebrations in Times Square in 1945.
Located next to the USS Midway Museum in downtown San Diego the statue is quite popular with couples striking the same pose and having their picture taken next to the huge figures
The official name of the 6,000-pound sculpture is Unconditional Surrender however most people just call it the kiss statue. The work of art was dedicated on February 11, 2007 and has been turning heads ever since.
On valentines day 2013 a new permanent bronze kiss statue replaced the original foam core version.
Edith Shain the woman who is being kissed in the statue attended the unveiling of the original statue , she died in 2010 at age 91.

Navy Statue Unveiling at Memorial Park: November 11, 2014
On Veterans Day a new statue was unveiled at Memorial Park honoring the Navy for their service during WWII. The statue was paid by one man, Henry Creed, and the statue was sculpted to portray Creed during the 1940s.

I am going to give you a tour of a private event aboard the USS Midway in San Diego.
The Midway is a popular event venue for a number of reasons;
For one, it is located on the harbor, right in Downtown San Diego
Within walking distance of the convention center.
You'll find unique event spaces on the USS Midway Naval Aircraft Carrier
Inside the Hangar Deck there is a party being set up by Continental Catering. Continental Catering is a preferred vendor of the USS Midway Museum in San Diego and they do a lot of events here.
Patriotic and military themes are quite popular on the Midway
Fantail Sponson is a covered patio style deck overlooking the water. Perfect for continental breakfast, a luncheon, cocktail hour or a dinner.
There is Paid parking available on the Navy Pier, right next to the Midway Museum with space for more than 350 vehicles, plus a bus turnout area.
As you look down you will also see plenty of staging space for the caterer to prepare. Here we see Continental doing some final preparations.
Upstairs is the enormous, 4 acre flight deck with over 50,000 square feet of usable event space that can accommodate up to 4000 people!
Here your guests will be surrounded by meticulously restored airplanes and helicopters.
And can enjoy the incredible 360 degree panoramic views of the harbor and the downtown skyline. A San Diego rooftop venue like no other.
The Midway features both outdoor space and indoor space.
San Diego's calm weather enables groups to hold their entire function on the flight deck, taking advantage of the radiant sunsets and awakening city lights. Or another option that many groups choose is to hold the welcome reception and cocktails on the flight deck, then adjourn to the hangar deck for an indoor dinner and entertainment.
A San Diego Venue perfect for many different uses; Concerts, meetings, corporate functions, ceremonies, the possibilities are endless.
If you look down from the flight deck you get a beautiful view of the Famous Kissing Statue starring a sailor and a nurse as an iconic image of the end of World War II.
Now, imagine your event at a venue as unique as the USS Midway, with guests enjoying the excitement of being on a Naval aircraft carrier and also the spectacular views of a San Diego sunset and skyline
As you watch through this slide show, I am going to provide some additional details:
The USS Midway is the longest serving US Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century
It is now the most visited floating naval ship museum in the world
Popular dates often book over a year in advance so make sure to plan accordingly.
Evening events may begin at 6:30 and must end by 10:00pm on the flight deck due to noise, and must end by 12 midnight in the hangar deck.
Midway features:
• Two enclosed adjoining hangar bays, each approximately 17,000 square feet
• Four-acre flight deck with more than 50,000 square feet of dramatic event space
• Sponson deck for smaller early-evening events that can accommodate 80 guests
• And below deck there is the Ward room, where navy officers shared a meal in style. This is perfect for a private dinner or meeting with up to 30 guests.
The Midway does have quite a bit of equipment that is included in the rental fee such as;

There are plenty of options for WOW factors for your event such as having skydivers land on the flight deck, fireworks, VIP's arrival by helicopter, flight simulators, tour guides, or even photo opportunities inside real aircraft.

U.S. Marines with Marine Air Control Squadron 1 participate in Pacific Blitz 2019. The Squadron conducted an amphibious landing on a with Navy counterparts, built a integrated command and control system and employed AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar to provide air surveillance to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. Pacific Blitz provides relevant training that replicates a realistic maritime threat environment designed to improve naval amphibious core competencies necessary for effective, global crisis response expected of the Navy and Marine Corps.
