Thomas H Kuchel Visitors Center and Beach near Orick, CA
Come along as we visit the Thomas H Kuchel Visitors Center just outside the south side of Orick, CA and then visit nearby northern California beach areas playing amongst small shore breaking waves. Experience some adventurous play as we enjoy the beach near the middle western shore areas of the Redwood Forests. We got the beach largely on our own, as locals are still in their mid-day work and school and we tour the western Redwood California Coasts of the Pacific Highway 101 of Northern California.

20. Visiting center of State National Environmental Park Ile-Alatau
There are many National Parks all over the world. Those are vast territories with beautiful landscapes, inhabited by wild animals and having amazing plants being under state protection. They are designed to preserve the most precious creations of nature.
The national parks are relatively new for Kazakhstan. The national reserves served for the purpose of preservation of the nature. However the national parks were open for tourism, recreation and cultural and educational purposes.
Ile-Alatau national park occupying more than 200 thousand hectares was opened in 1996. Relict forests, inhabited by more than 300 animals and birds species occupy its biggest part. A snow leopard, a symbol of Almaty city, is considered to be one of the most precious animals in the park.
A unique project of the visitors’ center Magical World of Alatau was launched in the national park for the purpose of ecological education of the citizens.
It opened its doors on May 19, 2016. The creation of the architect-designer Jaroslaw Antoniuk, the center has an impressive and well-developed infrastructure. There are halls devoted to the history and structure of park, and to its biodiversity, Central Information and Conference Hall, and Children's Environmental Education Room in the building located at the following address - Almaty, Tausamaly village, Zhandosov street, 1, the area of the building is 550 sq.m.

Redwood Creek Beach County Park
Redwood Creek Beach is located at the mouth of Redwood Creek about two miles south of the town of Orick in northern Humboldt County. This day-use picnic area is part of Redwood National Park and has a large parking area, clean facilities, and access to a sandy driftwood-covered beach. The National Park’s Thomas H. Kuchel Visitor Center is adjacent to the picnic area. It has information on destinations and activities throughout the area and interesting exhibits on display. Redwood Creek Beach is a great spot to stop and enjoy when passing through this section of Highway 101. A little farther south on the 101 you’ll find the visitor center and bookstore for Humboldt Lagoons State Park. Across Redwood Creek to the north is the little-known Orick Fishing Access where you can find a similar beach and few tourists.
Hiking the Lady Bird Johnson Grove
A hike through Redwood National Parks Lady Bird Johnson Grove in September of 2015. This is one of the most popular trails in Redwood National Park. Park rangers often recommend it to visitors since it's short, level, and close to Kuchel Visitor Center.
Unusually for a major redwood attraction, the trail is in a redwood upland environment at 1200 feet above sea level. Such ridgetop or hillside groves are usually less spectacular than valley floor groves, with smaller trees and more shrubs that block views of the trees. However, the trail was built for Redwood National Park's dedication ceremony, and I suppose the uplands provided a brighter, more cheerful environment for the ceremony.
The grove is free of traffic noise. Because of its elevation, it's often in the clouds and gets a lot more fog than lowland groves.

Tall Trees Grove
Just up the way from Lady Bird Johnson Grove on Bald Hills Road you will get to put your free permit from the Kuchel visitor center to good use! Stop at the locked gate, enter the combination provided on the permit, and start down the 6 miles of dirt/mud. The road is a 1.5 lane unpaved road winding your way through the forest.
The trail immediately starts a slow decent into the redwood forest. We had to pause so many times because “everything is so big!”. The trip and the hike to get to this grove is totally worth the effort! One of the former “tallest tree” resides here. It was fun seeing small groups of people trying to link arms to wrap around the trees and not be able to do it! That is how big they are!
We kept looking around and then up. At the bottom of the hike closest to Redwood Creek you will be in the old growth grove. There are informational signs and we definitely recommend taking the loop around. The ferns are huge. The trees are huge. Our smiles were huge! Such a peaceful place. Not too many people take the time to visit this grove. We only ran into a handful of groups.
Once you are done with the hike and if you have a vehicle that can tolerate the dirt road, head up Bald Hills Road to the end for some amazing views above the forest and all the way to the ocean. We were fortunate enough to be there while the lupine were still in bloom. This enter trip took us about 5 hours with all the stops and the 2 hikes. Take your time and enjoy the beauty!
